I'm kinda new so I'll start first....

I've been a Red Sox fan since I was 8 years old. I'm now 20 going on 21. The baseball park is like a place that I can go and forget about paying bills, where's my life going and so on.

I live in Niagara Falls, Ontario so I'm less then a hour away from Toronto I buy all 10 games in Toronto vs Boston. This year will be my first going to Boston to see a Red Sox game. Red Sox VS Philly in the infied Grandstand as well as out near the monster.

My Nickname at work is Fever Pitch like the movie becuase of how much I watch Baseball and the Red Sox.

Go SOX!

Hey, i've been on here for a few months but i guess I'm relatively new. I'm a 24 year old recent college graduate living in Rochester, NY and I'm a beer columnist. I'm pretty much in the heart of yankeeland but I've always been a red sox fan. My mom and her brother both went to college in Mass. When i was little he used to make me listen to Red Sox games and would always yell at me if i came over to his house with a yankees hat on. As far back as i can remember i have always loved the sox. It's tought living among so many yankees fans, although i did find a Red sox bar here and it's actually within walking distance.

Haha, when I left Logan on Sunday at 6AM it was 5 degrees..right now it's in the low 80's :D. It was a good game today, too. 6-4 Marlins. Dontrelle was very solid the first two innings but slipped up a little in the 3rd and they took him out. I met Hanley Ramirez for the second time now, except this time he was in a Marlins uniform.

I'm from St. Catharines, Ontario originally so I've only been to Fenway 6 times. I shouldn't say only because for a working stiff from Canada, six trips to Boston (seven actually. I was there in May of '84 on band exchange, but the Sox were in Cleveland) that ain't too bad.

My first game at Fenway was in August of '91 v. the Indians. Denis Boucher, Glenallen Hill and Hard-hittin' Mark Whiten (Don't ask me how the hell he ever earned that nickname) had just went from the Jays to the Indians for Turner Ward and Tom Candiotti. I remember Jays' fans *****ing about it for weeks before I left, and none cried more or harder than those crybaby radio sports reporters from Toronto.

I arrived in Boston during a hurricane and the game I was supposed to attend on the 20th was rained out. So being the doorknob that I am, I headed for the box office to see if I could get my money back. The guy in the wicket told me I should come back the next day for the doubleheader. I told him I was headed for Cooperstown and I had a very difficult time getting a hotel there in August. He just looked at me said, "Clemens is pitching the twilight."

That was all I needed to hear. I just looked at him with my eyes a little wide and said, "no ****?" He just smiled and winked at me.

I showed up early the next day to explore the area around Fenway. The weather was lousy the previous day, so I didn't get a chance to see much. I don't want to ramble, so I'll just tell you that Hesketh pitched the first game, and to be honest, I don't remember much about the game itself; I couldn't take my eyes of the park and I spent most of my time wandering around, being friendly (which I usually am anyways) so I could see us much of it as possible. I don't remember Boggs' triple (I was probably gawking at something) but I do remember Albert Belle's home run in the eighth.

Of course, the second game I will never forget. Clemens went seven innings, striking out nine and allowing eight hits. Not his best performance, but certainly not his worst.

Another thing about the game is I had the chance to see Steve Olin Pitch shortly before he was killed in that boating accident in Florida. He gave up 3 hits including a game winning home run To Boggs in the 9th.

Jodi Reed had a good night as well. He went three for four including a double and an RBI. Alex Cole had the best game with a lead off single and going three for four with two runs, an rbi and a stolen base, which of course, is what he got paid for.

When I got to Cooperstown, I slept in my car, but that's another story. :D

Thankful

My name is Gary, and I live I Ocala Florida. I became a Red Sox fan when Fisk hit his home run in the 1975 world series. I remember as a kid setting up the back room of our house to look like the infield and pretending I was Fisk waving the ball fair. In the 30 yrs that Ive loved the Red Sox my heart has been broken, and it has rejoyced, it has hated(The Yankees), and it has loved(2004). The one thing that remaines constant is opening day, and the games to be played. Thank God for Carlton Fisk and his foul pole glancing home run, and a life time of Red Sox memories.

I was in Gulf Port Miss. doing hurricane relief when I met this guy who was in the right field stands in St. Louis when the Red Sox won the world series. He told me that he met some people in the seats in front of him who were from the New England area. When there were two outs in the bottom of the ninth these people brought out a jar that was filled with ashes of family members who were Red Sox fans. Every year since 1921 as family members died some of their ashes were put into this jar. The story goes that when the Red Sox won the World Series the surviving members were to take the ashes and spread them accross the field when it was over. They had no idea it would take 86 years. I thought it was a great story and thought I would pass it along.

10 games in 12 years? Don't you work? Day games alone you'd have to miss 10 games a year.

I'm the same way with the yanks never miss a game(when possible)...but thats quite an impressive record to boast. I mean no doctor's appointments? Weddings? etc.

RedSoxtober=Andy

I grew up in Reading, MA (15.5 mi from Fenway) and am old enough to remember watching the Sox on a rotary dial tuner TV that you hand to hang on to the antenna just to get a decent signal on a rainy saturday afternoon. I recall the "best doggone team in the land" commercials WSBK used to run, the Bucky ^%&*$ Dent game (which we watched on TV in my fifth grade class!). I was smack dab in the middle of Mets Mania in '86 -- I was a freshman at Cornell university and outnumbered about 98-2 watching the WS on a community TV. I was eating dinner at my sister-in-laws while watching Petey come in from the 'pen in the playoffs and '03 I felt like Aaron )(*^&(*&^(*&^ Boone shot my dog.

In '04 I infected my son with this Sox disease. We caught the next-to-last game of the season in BAL (my brother-in-law lives spitting distance from Camden). That game sealed the deal for him. In a 20x15 seat section of box seats the only two O's fans were my brother-in-law and nephew. My son cheered every pitch and got high-5's from everyone when the Sox scored. He can still tell you every play from the game.

Anyway, I'm now 38 and living in Greenville, SC -- home of the Sox mid-A affiliate Greenville Drive and their new West End Park home modeled on Fenway. By day I'm a programmer (C++, C#, Ruby) and I have an affinity for numbers which will probably be apparent soon enough... I've got a BS in Elec Engr from Cornell and a MS in Biblical Studies from Gordon-Conwell. Enough background?

Cheers,
Andy

Double major at Cornell Engr school? Good luck! Not a game I'd want to play anymore...

Combine cruddy weather with the academic stress and an ample supply of steep sided gorges... there's a reason why Ithaca, NY has the highest per-capita suicide rate in the nation.

no. what happened was andrew stepped down as the forums administrator and wrigleyboy and sandman took over so andrew could focus more on the main site. the result has been a ****-ton more traffic to the site resulting in all these new users. and i'm sure us being in first place and the deadline approaching, more and more red sox fans are just sort of stumbling to this site.

I'm a 21 year old male from Wakefield, MA who has and will always love the Red Sox. Am I the only one who wonders how is it possible to survive in the off-season when the Sox aren't playing practically everyday? Sure we have the Pats, but come on, that's once a week!

welcome vainglory07... same here! its so hard to manage..lol

Hey all!

I hail from Fort Myers, FL. Before that I have lived 28 of my 30 years in Billerica, MA and mostly in Conway, NH. I'm an all New England fan, but first and for most a Sox fan, and the Pats are a close second :)

Nice to meet you. I grew up in Berlin (BHS Class of '93-no 'old fart' jokes please!). I probably played some sport or another against you in High School. I'm 31.
Did you play baseball or soccer for Kennett High?

New to posting, but have been reading your boards for a while. I'm 27 years old and moved back to MA 6 years ago. I usually get to Fenway 2 or 3 times a year depending on how many times I feel like taking a loan out from the bank. I enjoy baseball facts, opinions and gossip so I figure I'll fit in well here.

I'm just busting balls, my friend! Don't take it personally. Seriously, it is good to have you on the boards. You're obviously knowledgeable about the game, and passionate about the Sox. That's a good mix. I can see already that we're going to disagree on a few things, but that's what makes posting on this forum so much fun.

Welcome, and enjoy! If I offended you today, I apologize. Keep posting your unreadable rants. I'll do my best to decipher them, and then let you know my opinion.

I'm 30 and from PA livin in Buckeye AZ. I don't a miss of Sox Ball living so far away, in fact, I love that the sox come on at 4:00 most of the time. Fenway is a sanctuary and a place to become overwhelmed with joy. My last visit was July 15, 2005 when the Sox whipped the Yanks 17-1 with a Nixon inside the parker. They lost the series 3-1 but I saw a whopper of a game. My name is Jason.:9/11: :9/11:

Damnit. Poor Melky Cabrera. He got such a terrible look on that ball. I'm pretty sure he got sent down within the next day or two after that.

Hey guys whats up, i've been postin in here for awhile, and i've never actually come in here and introduced myself to fellow Dirt Doggs.

I'm from the Springfield,MA area and have been a Red Sox fan all my life but really following them since approx. 1992-93 or so maybe about 12 years or so, when i was like 9 and 10 i liked them but i didn't know baseball the way i do now. I started my Red Sox religion with guys like Boggs, Clemens, Tony Pena, Tim Naehring, Mo, Valentin, Greenwell etc.. Then during the days of Rich Garces, Tim Wakefield, Haselman, Stanley, Wil Cordero, Darren Bragg, O'Leary and Tinsley, thats when i started loving baseball. So now at age 25 i'm a diehard fan. My favorite player is Tek and Papelbon, i got a ton of respect for my fellow BoSox fans, you guys are the best fans in the world, for any club, in any sport, period. Thee Best!!!!

more intelligent? I'm a die hard Phils fan, But I like the sox, I just didn't realize it made me more intelligent. I think that could quite possibly be one the dumbest statements ever! Yeah I was there too, we were sitting right by that guy and the idiot that threw the pizza was trying to throw it at Orlando because it interferred with him catching the ball. They had the Channel 5 News Cameras down there 5 minutes later and everything, we ended up getting beer spilled everyone on us b/c they were fighting about it. It really was funny, and the guy laughed about it after the others got kicked out.

No, we go to a lot of them. My fathers company gets season passes and we end up taking half of them.

We obvioulsy had the field box down by the Left field, I liked those except for the fact it was cold; but it was still a fun day :)

Hello everyone...I'm here in Alaska but for one year I lived in Hull and Sharon...the only major league baseball game I saw was Sox / Yanks the year Maris set the home run record....dating myself huh? I've been a Sox fan ever since tho there are years I don't follow as closely as others. I'm also a Angels fan in baseball.... Nets and Suns fan in basketball....and I'm not tellin in football cuz my teams are WRETCHED now days....but I must say this last weekend was a pretty gratifying sports weekend for me. I look forward to reading and occasionally writing here...glad to meet you all.
