It is quite possible Doc Rivers is nearing the end of his run as coach of the Celtics [team stats]. Sources have told the Herald that he is leaning toward leaving the bench after this season, but Rivers insisted yesterday no final decision has been made.

There has been similar speculation in the past, but this time the planets seem better aligned for a move. One of Riversí sons, Jeremiah, will be a senior next season on the Indiana University hoop team and daughter Callie, a volleyball star, will be in her final year at the University of Florida. Another son, Austin, is a top basketball prospect who will be finishing high school.

Even in the midst of a brutal NBA schedule, Rivers makes several detours to watch his kids play, and it is no secret he would like to be there for them on a more consistent basis.

Not to bait or anything, but i dont think he's that good of a coach, so if he retires that might be a good thing for the Celtics

he did well that one year in orlando when he really had no talent at all on that roster. other than that i may have to agree with you.

Agreed. I think we will probably sign our assistant coach to our coach position. I'll miss his funny impressions during the game.

Maybe he hears a firing coming and wants to bow out more gracefully.

Fired? Am I missing something or did the C's just win 50 games with an AGING roster?

Good maybe Tom Thibodeau will replace him as the Head Coach

was never a good coach imo. This would actually help the celtics more then hurt them.

Maybe it's an easy way out of a team thats about to be an average team in the East.

Once Avery Johnson replaces Don Nelson, Don Nelson can replace the Celtics. :)

He sure can make the aging guys run. :)

Thank you.

By the logic of a lot of these Celtic fans, Coach Pop should be fired too.
