View Full Version : Barkley: Cavaliers giving LeBron too much rest

Barkley thinks James should play and felt it was a mistake that he, Kevin Johnson and Dan Majerle rested so much after Phoenix wrapped everything up in 1993. The Suns were rusty when they opened the playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers and immediately fell into a 2-0 hole at home, forcing them to play more games than necessary before eventually losing to the Bulls in six games in the Finals.

"I'm a little surprised they've rested LeBron as much as possible," Barkley said Tuesday during a conference call. "It's not like he's 39 years old, so I think Cleveland has to really be careful."

I didn't think he would get this much rest. My thought was he would play in some games but have limited minutes just to keep him from getting rusty. So I kinda agree with Chuck.

yea, i think they are giving him too much rest as well. i still think orlando will repeat. that team thrives on being considered the under dog, so cant wait for the rematch and for them to prove these so called "EXPERTS" wrong.

If there is anyone who could play amazing after resting a lot... I would have to say its Lebron... As much as I hate him.

Players do need rest so they're not sore and stuff. GIVE KOBE SOME REST TOO! His injuries won't heal as fast.

Yep, I agree with this.

Rest really shouldn't affect him too much.

You could worry he could lose his rhythm but for I guy like LeBron I don't think it would matter.

If I could choose a Lebron James that hasn't played all season, versus a Joe Johnson that's played all season, I'd go with Lebron. That's how crazy he is. Sadly.

They both won't make it.

The league has decided to cancel the playoffs since it's a lock L.A is going to win it all. The undisputed champions are the Los Angeles Lakers. ;)

I think the most interesting part of this article (or a similar one on NBA.com) is Charles Barkley picking the Cavs to win it all. The guy is a certified Cavs hater (regularly calling Cleveland "the mistake by the lake") but he picks the Cavs to win it all.

The guy knows his stuff as well. When he said the Magic would knock out the Cavs last year, everyone called him crazy...

We'll just see what happens. I'm really looking forward to the series. Hopefully neither of us get knocked out & embarrassed beforehand.

im sure lebron will be ready by the playoffs. the guy that really needed to shut it down for the rest of the regular season is kobe. he just doesnt look right after the wear and tear of the regular season.

No matter who Cleveland plays in round 1, they need a challenge this year because if they get Boston in round 2 they will be tested hopefully.

If the Cavs were a #3 or 4 seed this would be different, but LeBron should not have to put up 40 points for the Cavs to win in a 1-8 matchup. I agree he should play a few minutes to stay fresh but I'm sure he will stay ready and would rather have him at full strength for the playoffs. People are making too big a deal out of missing a week of games. It is not like he isn't at practice shooting and doing contact drills with teammates.
