Nothing close to it imo, that is very possible to do with straight hard work and dedication.

Pictures of 18 year old high school kids aren't what they look like 7 years later on professional work out routines for the better half of a decade? WEIRD!

You should see what I looked like at 18 to what I look like at 25 after being in an NCAA workout routine. And I'm not half the athletic freak of Dwight or Lebron. I literally see no reason why they couldn't look like that naturally.

Neither do I. But at the same time, if I found out LeBron/Dwight/Kobe/etc have all done some type of PEDs during their careers, I wouldn't be shocked. The same could be said for guys like Jordan, Hakeem, Ewing, etc of the 90's. If there's ever a sport where it'd be beneficial to take them, it's the NBA. I mean, really, what's the downside to an NBA player using HGH? It makes you stronger, run faster, jump higher, recover from injuries quicker, etc.

Michael Jordan and Olajuwon weren't jacked at all. I'd be surprised if they even worked out in the weight room all that often. You can definitely tell Lebron and Dwight spend a lot of time there.

And HGH doesn't make you stronger / run faster / jump higher. That's a misnomer. It does help you recover from injury faster, and I guess could indirectly make you stronger because you could work out more often, but basketball is about a lot more than just work-out strength. And it absolutely doesn't make you faster/jump higher. Nothing but tireless hard work does that, and there's a finite amount of how much you can improve (i.e. once you reach 23-25 you're peaking physically, so sure you can take the 'roids to allow you to work out more, but it's not going to make much of a difference in speed/agility).

Certain steroids can probably allow you to extend your career if you take them intelligently, given that they can help you recover quicker to injury, but these dudes --regardless of whether or not they've used some kind of steroids-- which I doubt they have, could look how they look without them easily.

Again, comparing an 18 yr old fresh out of high school kid to a grown man who's been on the best nutrition/workout routines in the world for the better half of a decade is just dumb. They look exactly how I'd expect them to given how they came out of high school.

these are kids that develop their bodies using strict workouts. if you took a picture of yourself right now and worked out for 5 years on a strict schedule you'd look at that pic and say that kid is thin.

someone who i would suspect of using hgh would be someone who is out of their prime and normally wouldn't be able to do what they do at their age. someone like dara torres being in the olympics at 40+ when the typical swimmer is probably in their 20s.

If they were using HGH, that wouldn't suprise me since HGH is mostly used to help you recover but come on now, if they were on gear, you would see a HUGE difference especially after 7-10 years.

Those pictures were them when they were kids and those pics of them now isn't that hard to get especially with the trainers they have now, chefs they use now, and the fitness facilities they have now. Thats all hard work and dedication.

Now if they jumped weight in an offseason by 20-30lbs thats a red flag but they steadily got heavier as each year has gone by.

JasonJohnHorn
04-03-2010, 09:35 AM
These guys both came into the league straight out of high school. They were boys when they came in the league, litterally teenagers. They are men now. While most people stop growing heightwise by their late teens, growth is not done at that age, the body spourts up, then fills out, and most men don't fill out completely until their mid-late twenties. Look at Karl Malone when he came in the league, or Charles Oakley, Hakeem. These guys were all sticks compared to the HOFers who hit their prime in their mid-late twenties.

Bosh put some weight on this offseason to, but his workouts were no secret. The guy busted his @$$ all offseason to add some bulk, just like Howard, LBJ and Kobe. The best guys in the league take their work outs seriously and attack it with the same drive that they go into a game with. Jordan was the same way, and despite the fact it hasnt paid off on the court, Oden is the same way as well. Sure, guys like Jordan and Kobe dont really bulk up the way frount court guys do, but they both are more athletic and dont need bulk to play their style of game. Fornt court players post up against bigger guys and need that size.

So is it possible that some guys have used performance enhancing drugs? Sure, but if they did they'd likely get caught since the NBA has crazy random testing with no notice and we've seen many players (including talented young players that would have helped add much depth to the league like Roy Tarpley, Stanley Roberts and Chris Andersen, and recnetly Rashad Lewis, while both big name players like Chris Webber and Robert Parish have been suspended for drug use- most of these guys for recreational drugs- weed I believe in the case of Webber and Parish if I remember correctly), so the fact that we see so many guys suspended- soem for literally years and some completely banned from the NBA for life, even for recrrational drugs, indicates to me that the league takes this VERY seriously and doesnt let anybody slip through the cracks, regardless of who they are.

thats why you dont see Lebron or Howard Like Euros playing in europe.

And now i will bring this.

Juan Dixon , former Nba player has been caught in a test for using Nandrolone here in Euroleague.

Do you think he started doing dope here in europe?
He probably did always use it in Usa too but didnt get caught because tests are less strict .

Another example is

in Nba if you test positive for marihuana they hand you afine a second time another fine a third a 5 day suspension etc.

IN europe you test positive for Marihuana ONCE and its a 2 year Ban.

Bottomline there must be TONS of Nba ( and nfl, nhl, mlb, ) players in dope.
Oh and this is not an antiamerican rant i mean 80% of cyclers from all countrys take dopes and half the atheltes , some soccer players too etc etc

its not some of them, its all of them. at least in the better paid leagues. and controls here in europe might be more strict, but theyre far from strict. taking steroids or anything like that is not a big deal for people who are into sports. even many nonpros take em. and i played with guys who played in the 2nd german league who smoked weed regularly, its not like they have a big fear of getting busted, i also played with some guys from the german junior national team who roided.
and also, its not 80 % cyclers, its 100 % cyclers, its not some soccer players, its all soccer players, and so on. its a business with much money involved, the controls know that as well.

look up some facts before you bring up topics like this for discussion. Ugly rumors get started because of BS like this.

HGH wouldn't be a performance enhancement drug of choice for basketball players. You don't want or need bulky muscle when playing ball.

Why don't you look up some aesthetic side effects of HGH use and try to point out it in one of those pictures of Dwight & Lebron? They both have great genetics and are workaholics in the gym.

fans need to stop looking for controversy in NBA... enjoy the sport and stop trying to make it into a spectacle

The OP doesn't realize that HGH doesn't help you get bigger or more cut at all. Frankly, if you work out at all it can bring your weight way down.

I had to add this in...

I'm sick of people using that Rashard Lewis steroid thing as a example to justify outlandish claims of steroid use in the NBA. He tested positive for DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone)... It's common in a wide range of dietary supplements. It doesn't even help build muscle or improve athletic performance. Some people even use it to treat and ease the pain of arthritis. Maybe he developed arthritis earlier than most because he's been playing pro basketball since he was 18... its possible. Also it's only banned in the NBA because somewhat common side effect of DHEA is heart palpitations and rapid/irregular heartbeats.

I hate to speculate about and defend a grown mans decision to take a supplement but it needed to be done. Stop gossiping like lil girls and do some research before you make a statement.

The steroids talk in general by most of the public are just chalk full of misnomers. It's been generally shunned by the mass media and grouped together as something horrible that turns players into mutant gorillas, so very few people bother to understand the truth behind why they're illegal / what different steroids actually do and don't do.

That said, I'll repeat again that these two athletic freaks could easily look the way they do through diet and a workout routine (to go along with... you know, actually growing into men). And I have no reason to think that's not how they did it.

It's just ignorance running rampant once again.

That picture also supports the claim that Lebron's muscularity is a product of hard work and amazing genetics.

At 17 I'm sure he was bigger than most full grown males in the US. His shoulders and trapezius muscles are a lot more developed than most 17 year old kids Ive seen.

When he went to the NBA he probably had some of the best trainers and nutritionist working with him in state of the art gyms. Lebron's current muscularity and size shouldn't surprise anyone with a basic knowledge of body building and the workout regiment a pro athlete is put through in their career.

The list of banned substances in sports need to be seriously over hauled. Thats a big issue with me on a whole, but thats another story.

Marijuana is only on those list cause its a banned psychoactive drug in most countries. Any drug that alters mental competency is banned with good reason. Side note- I have played basketball on bud when I was in HS, it made games of pick-up basketball go on forever cause no one was hitting open shots and hacking like crazy on D.

i wouldnt doubt it especially lebron.. he has used something garunteed

Going from a 17 year old teenager to a 24 year old man of course you can look that much bigger. To you to guarentee he used anything, obviously proves you have never weight lifted in your life, because results like that are typical if you just work out regularly.

When I was 15 years old:
5'9", 135 lbs., B-Team Freshmen, Bench: 135, Squat: 205, 40: 5.0

Now I am in Spring training for my senior season, and I have a legit chance to go division 1(football):
6'0", 205 lbs., All-District, Bench: 280, Squat: 425, 40: 4.76

The point of me going on Microsoft Word to retrieve all that info. isn't just just to post it for the the hell of it. It's to show how hardwork can change you. When it was summer I use to attend Strength and Conditioning camps while some of my buddys were at Six Flags or Huricane Harbor.

It just frustrates me everytime someone sees somebody get stronger, they accuse them of steroids.

These are the best athletes in the world, with access to the best trainers, the best facilities, the best nutritionists, the best everything. World class. There are people who are just freakishly athletic, and all-natural. Showing pictures of a 17 year old Dwight Howard compared to 20+ Dwight Howard, after he got to the NBA and got that world-class help and world-class training isn't "evidence". Same with LeBron.

Steroids are a problem in the NBA, just look at the whole Rashard Lewis episode.

Rashard Lewis wasn't busted for steroids in the sense you think he was. There are many banned substances that aren't muscle building steroids. DHEA is an endogenous hormone, not an anabolic steroid, or something that builds muscle mass. It's found in 100s of over the counter supplements. It helps with depression. Is it coincidence that he got busted for something in an over-the-counter supplement with anti-depressant characteristics shortly after/during a period in his life where his 1 year-old's daughter was fighting for her life? Perhaps not.

I think the bigger problem is misinformed people making crazy claims based on pictures and well, misinformation.

Lewis is far from an example as to why the NBA has a "steroids" problem. These pictures are just as laughable.

if youre a pro in sports, you take peds. its that simple.

it's really not though. there's plenty of people who play pro and aren't on roids.
like alot of people have said in this thread, bodies change from the time your 17 to your mid 20s. especially with the aid of dieticians and training programs and trainers - people who get paid to help you get faster and stronger.
if you're convinced that everyone's on steroids, then I suggest you get up and go to the gym yourself, you'd be amazed at the transformation your body can go through.
people also have a misconception that steroids are miracle drugs and if you take them, you automatically become a hall of famer. steroids will help you get stronger and faster, but they won't do everything. I could do all the steroids I want, I'm probably never gonna be as fast or strong as Lebron is naturally.
it's really easy to just say "everyone's on roids, if you don't believe it, you're an idiot" because you don't have to show any facts.
don't get me wrong, there's definitely PEDs in sports, but showing pictures of a 17 year old compared to a 25 year old doesn't show anything.

So I guess it's OK in baseball as well for Roger Clemens to have more stamina, throw 95mph at age 44, and Andy Pettite who admitted taking HGH in 2002 to heal from an injury? It's called CHEATING. That's the downside to it. Ignorance is bliss.

I'll assume you've never been on a high level workout routine before, Nash? And OP?

7 year growth is fine, the junior to senior year growth in LeBron is pretty extraordinary. Especially since LeBron originally said he didn't like to workout much and didn't do it that often.

The biggest issue in realizing the NBA's PED problem is the Rashard Lewis case. Rashard Lewis didn't test positive for DHEA (which is a steroid) that was his excuse which was most likely a lie. He tested positive for elevated testosterone levels a sign of steroid abuse. He got caught and to try to minimize the damage he spun up the DHEA myth. Almost everyone bought it, and turned a blind eye to it.

im going to the gym myself and preparing myself to participate in bodybuilding competitions. i know what transformations for my body are in there and which are out of reach. farseen from that, i dont say it because of their bodies, its about performance boosters and recreational effects, in order to be able to train more, lessen the pain from the extremely hard level these guys play on, and to ease the pressure of a long and heavy season.

people also have a misconception that steroids are miracle drugs and if you take them, you automatically become a hall of famer. steroids will help you get stronger and faster, but they won't do everything. I could do all the steroids I want, I'm probably never gonna be as fast or strong as Lebron is naturally.
never said that, all these guys are incredibly gifted bball players and would be wordclass athletes even without roids. but peds are just a normal thing in sports. i dont even think they should be forbidden, i dont see it as cheating either.if you dont have the talent and the body they wont get you in, but they make good players even better.

it's really easy to just say "everyone's on roids, if you don't believe it, you're an idiot" because you don't have to show any facts.

i wasnt the one showing the pics, neither did i base anything i said on them. we had about 10 threads with the same topic where this was discussed back and forth. as i said, im basing my opinion and what ive seen/heard from friends/exteammates who played higher level ball, or other sports.
