Hi, I'm in a 12-team league and was offered this trade:

Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellsbury for Aaron Hill and Ryan Braun?

I know I lose SB's, but for my team will this be worth it? Thanks a lot!

Eh I wouldnt do it. You basically kill your steal totals, because basically all you have left is Borbon. I think you have enough power that while gaining Braun's HR and RBI numbers is nice I dont think they are enough to validate the drop off in SB. Runs arent going to be that different, and the BA might not be much either.

Especially when you are downgrading your 2B in probably every category except HRs.

If you think about it you are doing the following:

Gaining 20 HRs
Losing 20 runs
Gaining 45 RBIs
Losing 65 SB
Losing .010 batting avg.

So you are actually weakening yourself in 3 categories.

I would consider it only if you feel like Everth Cabrera would be a good option for you, because he would pick your steal numbers up quite a bit.

Note: This is assuming 5x5 since you said losing steals.

I highly disagree. Besides, your estimations are way off. Hill plus Braun will be more like 45 more home runs then Ells/ Pedroia, pretty much the same number of runs and average, and close to 80 more RBI. Braun will still steal some bases as well, so compensating by picking up Fowler or Cabrera will more then make up for that category. This trade is a must accept.

Well just going by projections on fangraphs (these are just kinda ball park averages):

HR/R/RBI/SB/AVG

Ellsbury: 9/90/60/55/.300
Pedroia: 15/110/70/15/.305

Total: 24/200/130/70/.303

Braun: 35/105/115/16/.310
Hill: 20/80/75/5/.282

Total: 55/195/190/21/.296

So by doing the trade you get:

+31/-5/+60/-49/-.007

Like I said you weaken yourself in 3 categories which I dont think is smart. I dont think its a terrible trade or anything, but you are all acting like its some rape job and its not, if anything I think he is getting the weaker end of the deal.

No I don't think its a lopsided trade, its fairly even. I do think the projections on Braun are pretty low. As it is though, there is only one area where it is weakened enough to make a difference, and thats steals. I think the combo of Braun and Hill could easily score more runs then Pedroia/ Ells. The difference in HR and RBI, however, is huge, and it makes the difference in this tarde for me. Of course it all depends on the scoring system, but Braun/Hill is the better bet.
