Jackson’s intention to return as long as he’s healthy will have a profound impact on the potential 2010 free agent everyone has forgotten about: Kobe Bryant. The four-time champion decided not to terminate his contract after last season, but the extension he was subsequently expected to sign with Lakers has not come to fruition.

He’s definitely in the mix,” one GM told me recently. “What if they don’t win it this year and what if he’s [ticked] off at Dr. Buss for not re-signing Phil Jackson or he’s sick of playing with whoever and he says, ‘You know what? I’m gonna go put on a New York Knick jersey.’ All of sudden he and Mike D’Antoni hook up in New York and they can talk some Italian.

“Don’t rule him out if LeBron says no to New York,” the GM said.

• For similar reasons, Walsh will have to decide whether Chris Bosh is worthy of a max deal if he strikes out on LeBron. Sources familiar with Walsh’s thinking are convinced that he does not regard Bosh as being on the same level as James and Wade, who will be the only two clear-cut max players on the market. “That’s the fallacy with the max,” one prominent agent said. “It allows you to buy Chris Bosh for the same price as LeBron James.” In fact, another person familiar with Walsh’s strategy said if it came down to deciding whether to keep David Lee or sign Bosh to a max deal, Walsh would choose Lee. “There are questions about whether Bosh is the kind of player who can carry a team by himself,” the person said. “He certainly hasn’t done it in Toronto.”

The Knicks will give Bosh a max if he asks for one and they have no other option. After all, why did they clear up all that cap space?

And I just laughed at the Kobe part.

Bosh doesn't deserve a Max. He hasn't gotten his team anywhere.

so the reasonging behind kobe signing in new york is so he can speak italian with mike dantoni. rrrrrright.

03-27-2010, 02:49 PM
IMO Bosh doesn't deserve max, and Kobe won't leave LA. He's been there his whole career, if there were 2 teams he would play for if the Lakers completely melted down it would be Chicago or NYC for sure, but the article isn't that great, b/c there's way too many "if's" involved.

Put it this way, the only way he leaves LA is if all the following happen at once:

-Phil leaves
-Pau, Bynum, Artest, and Odom get released for Shephon Marbury
-they get swept in the first round
-LA gets submerged by water

So it ain't gonna happen.

Knicks organization = fail

Next thing you know, they'll be trying to convince Michael Jordan to sell the Bobcats so that they could sign him.

NYYCowboys
03-27-2010, 03:33 PM
I honestly wouldn't mind signing Bosh and Joe Johnson. That would make us instant contenders. We maybe wouldn't be the best team, but I haven't whiffed an even decent Knicks team in about 10 years so I don't care.

Why would they want to PF. IMO for Knicks its either LeBron(which i doubt) or Bust. In other words they just dont have a strong enoguh core for them to be instant contenders. Sure they can get some free agents but will take time for them to be contenders.

Bruno
03-27-2010, 05:07 PM
Kobe pressures the front office to move Pau or Bynum before he packs his bags and leaves himself. If they were to lose.

NetsPaint
03-27-2010, 05:12 PM
Only reason Kobe would leave for the Knicks is because D'Antoni was his favorite player growing up, which is saying a lot more than everybody saying they love D'Antoni because of working with him on the Olympic team.

With that said, I don't think he's leaving and this article doesn't provide anything to make anyone believe he would.

I'd also rather pay Lee than Bosh.

Bruno
03-27-2010, 05:22 PM
It's crazy how somebody is going to give Chris Bosh as much money as LeBron or Wade.

They'd have to lose in the first or second round, or get beaten badly in the conference finals for him to go that wild.

If Bryant didn't leave L.A. a couple of years ago when he said he would "never" play for the Lakers again, he's not going to now.

NetsPaint
03-27-2010, 05:45 PM
I think he wants to stay, but the outcome of his team's success when the finish playing this year is gonna determine it.Maybe that's why he didn't sign an extension.

Article isn't telling us anything new... obviously if they can't get Lebron, then just simply giving Bosh a max contract isn't going to be enough to get them out of futility. But if they can land Lebron and Bosh for sure, then they would pay them both max contracts.

Lebron would go before Kobe does.

lggydelphia
03-28-2010, 11:41 AM
The Knicks will have to offer Bosh the max to get him to consider since the Raptors will most likely be offering him their maximum, which is worth quite a bit more.

Kobe should be a Laker for life, can't see him with the Knicks ever.

Lakers4ItAll
03-28-2010, 11:54 AM
Let me 1st off start off by saying I think Kobe will always be a Laker but wouldnt it be crazy if Kobe wanted to leave LA to go to NYK then Lebron signed with LA

ldc62

Did u not read the article? Walsh will not overpay for players not named Lebron and Wade

What happens when they don't get either player? And no one wants to come to NY without a max contract?

Then they will be forced to pay... (to show the fans hes doing something)
As soon as this article said Kobe could go to NY, it lost all credibility. Its not like Bosh is begging to go anyways, he'd be a better fit in Chicago.

This, end of discussion. It's kind of hard to see him leave LA with Phil Jackson, Pau, LO, Drew and Ron Ron locked up for the next 3 years.

I knew it!!! Kobe is going to the Lakers...there lineup is gonna be so sweet

CP3 (after they trade Curry for him
Kobe
Lebron
Bosh (5 yr $15 million contract)
Dwight (trade next years second rounder for him)

with Gallo coming off the bench. Some might think the Bosh 5 yr, $15 mill contract is a little low for him, but he wants to play for the knicks so bad he would take it

Don't know about anyone else, but I'm looking forward to the conclusion of the offseason primarily so there won't be 193849238403403 articles on Bosh/LeBron/Wade/Boozer/Amare/other FA flooding the boards. Most of the articles seem to be based on groundless ridiculous notions and unrealistic fantasies.
I think a lot of teams are going to be horribly disappointed when it is all said and done.
