View Full Version : More enjoyable: team defense resulting in a win or a superstar dropping 40 in a win?

For me, it's pretty easy to pick, I love when teams get defensive like the Championship Spurs, Pistons and Celtics, and just execute plays and shut the other team down. I love well-executed defensive schemes that function and look like a well-oiled machine.

However, I do understand that maybe it's more exciting to see a guy burn a team for 40, 50 or 60 points. People like superstars.

Opinions?

you should ahve added another option.

All round Team effort no one scores more than 15 but 8 players score in doubel digits and the 12 men score win.

I love good team defense...it's rare to see a team totally in sync defensively...the last time was them 2008 Celtics.

i like seeing offensive teams go hard on defense and shut their opponent down in a surge. like LA vs san antonio the other night in the second half.. especially the fourth quarter. thank you ron artest for being the beast that you are

If it's my team playing good D and winning because of it, I prefer that. But I could never watch a game like Detroit/San Antonio when they were both defensive forces.

Obviously I love when my whole team is clicking defensively, but one of the more memorable games for me this season was when Vince dropped 48(who doesn't like to watch a guy get in the zone where they just can't miss), so I think it can go either way. A W is a W...

Team Defense. Nothing beats watching every man on your team give it his all on the defensive end

I get to see both consistently this season with the Thunder. Call me a homer, but it's true.

I'll say a defensive domination though.

Don't tell me you didn't watch the last FIFA World Cup. Italy won that thing with a superb team defense effort. It was ****ing ugly to watch though.

Just make sure you defeat both portugal and Cote divore so we get to play an easy game in the 1/8 against North Korea :p

I heard that North Korea won't allow the broadcast of any WC games and will only broadcast their own if they win them...

You guys probably get Portugal. Spain-Portugal on 1/8s would be a helluva game that early in the competition.

Any way back on topic.

Team effort is always nicer to win games.

I've seen Kobe drop 81, 60+, 50+, 40+, etc., etc. I've seen other Lakers greats do the same. As amazing as that feels, nothing makes me more enthusiastic about watching basketball as watching points off of steals, turnovers, great defense. Completely shutting down the other team when it counts defense.

It's hard to win consistently without good defense. If high scoring was all that was necessary to win, Phoenix would have multiple NBA titles, and Texas Tech would have multiple national titles in football. But it doesn't work that way. Defense wins championships. But there's nothing like watching a team that plays great offense and great defense. That's what I'm hoping the Thunder will become.

Not happening. I guess you get to watch Messi a lot (How's the hat-trick against your homies btw?)...

I'll take our performance against the Spurs 10/10 times.

Best defensive I have ever seen this team play. Stifling defense is just scary to watch.

I prefer it when the team plays well as a whole offensively and makes the necessary defensive stops to win the game.

I can't say that I enjoy watching NBA games where both teams score under 90 points.

when a guy gets 40 in a win it a lot more exciting then the leading scorer having like 18 pts

Superstar dropping 40. Scoring brings more excitement for the game of Basketball for me.

It's all a matter of preference. For me winning a tightly contested game with lock down team defense in the fourth quarter is highly enjoyable, especially when it comes in the playoffs. That said, I also love it when a superstar takes over down the stretch. He doesn't necessarily need to score 40, but it will always be impressive to see someone take his team on his back and carry them to victory.
