Zydrunas Ilgauskas is back in town and very shortly intends to be back in a Cavalier uniform.

Monday is the first day Ilgauskas and the Cavs can negotiate a contract to re-join the team. That is when a 30-day moratorium following the trade that brought Antawn Jamison expires.

Ilgauskas' agent, Herb Rudoy, said the Ilgauskas is hoping the process will go quickly so that he can join the team on a road trip to New Orleans and San Antonio that begins on Tuesday. Unless there are any unforeseen bumps, Ilgauskas' much-anticipated return game at The Q will be next Sunday afternoon against the Sacramento Kings.

"He is hopeful I can get a deal done quickly so he can sign and travel with the team," Rudoy wrote in an e-mail. "He is very excited to get back to his teammates."

The talks could be rather short because there are not a lot of options -- although there may be a big decision. There are only two types of contracts the Cavs can offer Ilgauskas. One is a veteran's minimum contract just for the rest of this season. The other is what is known as the bi-annual exception, which would permit the team to pay him more money this season and also include an option for next season.

Because Ilgauskas gave up around $1.5 million to get out of his contract with the Washington Wizards, it would make sense he'd want to replace as much of that salary as possible. But he may not want to lock himself into a contract for next season, though he said recently that he does not want to retire.

Considering his history with the franchise, there's a good chance the Cavs will do anything they can to give Ilgauskas what he wants.

Rudoy said Ilgauskas has been dedicating himself to a training regimen to make sure he's in good shape for his planned return. After spending some time in New York, where he also has a home, Ilgauskas returned to Cleveland recently and has been working out on his own.

NBA rules prevent him from working out with the team or at Cleveland Clinic Courts during the 30 days.

"Z is back in Cleveland working out hard in a local gym with two local coaches," Rudoy wrote. "They're pushing him hard for three hours each day."

You're mistaking lack of pride for a ton of loyalty.

I agree with the league changing it. Although it's my fave team on the winning end, I still think it's a pathetic rule or lack thereof

Its yesterday's game between Cavs and Pistons, you don't have to watch the entire thing just watch it all the way up to the 30 sec mark. It's hilarious.
