I believe it comes down to two. Marcin Gortat (the polish hammer) and Zydrunas Llgauskas. To me though Big Z is too old to be effective 48 minutes in a game while Gortat in my opinion can start on at least half the teams in the NBA. So do you agree or disagree and why?

I think a guy who is very underrated is Louis Amundson. I think he backs up Robin Lopez at the center position. I think if given the minutes, the guy can be very very effective, like one of those x-factor guys for the Suns.

I think Anderson Varejao is another one of those guys, but he's more of a hustle guy and not so much an offensive-minded guy. To me, Amundson can develop a game down low if he works hard and if he knows he'll play major minutes. It'll be interesting to see his growth.

Marcin Gortat is also another good backup center, but he just simply does not get enough minutes to be that effective. But after all, Dwight Howard is the starter for Orlando and he's going to obviously be earning the majority of the minutes.

you right bout amundson. he is pretty good. ive seen him play, but gortat, he is a beast. the dude can shoot and dunk with the best of of them for his size

Amundson is a PF, Channing frye is our Back center for Robin Lopez. So i'm gonna go with Channing Frye, although he's not super-impressive defensively, he gives us exactly what we need off the bench. floor spreading, a scoring punch and decent defense.

Greg Oden or Joel Przybilla, either are backups to Camby at the moment :D

Chris Anderson should be in the conversation.

If he were a true center I would agree, but I think he's more PF then C. If it said best backup big, you're right.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas is probably one of the best if not the best. He's pretty good in NBA 2K10!

Yeah he brings alot of energy to the floor but hes between C/PF

A guy thats a little underrated is Joel Anthony. He has a similar role to the Birdman in Denver.

Gortat is a baller, just watch some of the games where he plays heavy minutes and you will see... If anyone watched last night they would have seen him play great ball against Tim Duncan. Duncan went 1-10 fg the worst percentage in his entire career and Gortat was a big part of that after Dwight picked up some more insanely fouls.

I don't get the Big Z support, I'm not saying that he isn't an ok player, but he is absolutely awful against superior talent. He can shoot and tip in shots, but his D is embarrassing.

no he's not. Since returning from injury he hasn't started a single game. There's no need for bashing someone for making a small mistake.

Blazers don't count who knows whos really a starting center, all those guys get shuffled because of injury. They have some talent there. just injuries hurts them in this conversation.

and i can still average 40 points a game with mcgrady in nba 2k10. but ummm i dont know how people forgot even last year in the playoffs when gortat was playing big z, how he was owning him. big z is still pretty good, but i still think he is too old to be effective.

I say Chris Anderson as I don't buy the "he's not a center" stuff. The energy he brings makes all of his teammates play harder and that's not something you can measure with stats.

Actually Theo Ratliff starts for the Bobcats. Tyson backs him up right now.

Zaza can make a case. His #'s arent bad, averaging 10.9 PTS, 9.5 RBS, 1.1 BLK per 36 minutes. Hes been slacking lately though, but only by a slight bit.
