View Full Version : Brian Cook to fill K-Marts shoes in Denver

The Nuggets will be offering a contract to free agent power forward Brian Cook, according to Travis Heath at Hoopsworld. Cook started his career in LA, being drafted by the Lakers with the 24th pick in the 2003 draft. He backed up Shaq in LA before eventually moving on to Orlando in the trade that brought Trevor Ariza to Los Angeles. He was most recently on the roster in Houston, but was waived in February of this year.

Cook is a power forward who will be expected to platoon with Johan Petro filling the enormous void left by the absence of Kenyon Martin. The Nuggets are looking for someone with size who isnít a complete disaster shooting the ball, and while Cook isnít known as a defensive specialist, the hope is that he can team with Petro to cover the loss of Kenyon Martinís defensive skill.

Kenyon Martin is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season with a knee injury (tendonitis). It is unclear exactly when or if Martin will return this season.

The nuggs fail to get another big at the deadline and now they gotta settle for Brian Cook. They said he looked good in the try-outs though. Who knows maybe in that system he could pull a Channing Frye on us.

He cant bring the toughness KMart brings. Spreads the floor nicely though.

Yeah it will be between him and Malik Allen to get the minutes. Both are good shooters who suck at everything else.

I don't think it will be enough to weather the storm. Cook and Petro for Kmart? Bah.

Strange replacement...he is the complete opposite of K-Mart...good shooter yet allergic to physical contact.

The cookie monster? Lakers are doomed he knows us inside and out, plus the guy is a lights out shooter, only the great Mike James has a better jumper.

Joey Graham is able to play the PF spot. I wouldn't be surprised if he got some minutes.

Melo said he'd play more minutes at PF too

He knows the Lakers triangle offense inside-out. He's one of the best guys who ever ran Phil Jackson's triangle system, and now he's gonna divulge all the secrets to the Nuggets to help them gain an advantage over the champs.

The Nuggets need to make sure that they only ever give him the ball if they want a shot attempt right there and then, because if there is one thing Brian Cook will not do, it's pass the ball.

I never liked Brian Cook when he played for the Lakers, he shoots the ball as if he thinks he's Dirk Nowitzki...
