I know he wouldn't do something like that to Shaq... Dwight is known as a gentle giant on court around the league, so Gasol knew Dwight wasn't going to turn around and lay his *** down.

He wouldn't purposefully foul Shaq as hard, because he knows Shaq would smack the **** outta him, and in my opinion that makes Pau's move even more dirty.

It was completely unnecessary, he had no intentions of blocking the shot.

Call me crazy but I thought it was a very physical play on the ball. Gasol nailed Dwight on the arm, where the ball was before he elevated. In the 80's that would have been a good hard foul.

Not even close to a play on the ball. He wound up first and then directly hit his arm, coming nowhere close to the ball and using excessive force. This isn't the 80's.

VC played terrible in the 2nd half. I don't understand him as a player. You go to the line and 10 times in the 1st quarter, then in the 2nd half you decide, ah lets not be aggressive anymore, i'll shoot contested jumpers instead. Lakers get back into it when VC isn't attacking. So really this guy is the most frustrating player to watch, he's so talented, and if he goes to the rim, he's still athletic enough to finish or draw fouls.

Excessive force? Do you think Pau Gasol has any chance of stopping Dwight from getting an easy dunk using anything but hard contact? Paus not that strong, if he's gona contest a guy with Dwights strength, he's gona have to give him everything he's got. And it still didn't even work.

As I saw it Pau started swinging towards Dwight before Dwight elevated. Its not like he tried to knock him to the ground, he hit him on the arm, below the ball. It was the officials trying to get the game under control- they weren't going to give another T or flagrant to Kobe or Barnes, so Pau got hit with it.

And thanks, I know it's not the 1980's, if it were I doubt you'd have the time to post 43 times a day, because we'd all have steady jobs (for better or for worse).

Dwight doesn't get into many altercations. Others would swing every time they got grabbed like how Dwight get's grabbed. Many people say he whines, and complains to the refs, but if you look at it, who wouldn't? He's trying to let his anger out before he knocks someones head off. He constantly get's grabbed and pulled down from the neck, so I have sympathy for him. It would be a different story if he was still doing it, but it was a touch foul.

Yes well, I think the difference is, it really looks like Gasol is trying hard to punch him as hard as he can, but the effect is just not there because he's soft. Like stated before, if it were the other way around and Howard would've tried as Gasol did on that play, I think Gasol wouldn't play this season anymore and Howard would've probably been ejected. So basicly, Gasol is lucky he isn't strong enough to do real damage cause it sure looked like he tried.

Is this really THAT big of a deal?

Everyone knows that Dwight Howard is a physical player, and that Pau Gasol is not. That's a given...nobody in their right mind is going to try and deny that.

On top of that, a lot of you guys are acting like this is the first hard/flagrant foul in the history of the NBA. A lot of you guys sure do have selective memory:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l95q5N9tFJw&feature=player_embedded

Also, for what it's worth, Gasol scored 20 points on 13 FGA's with 11 rebounds, and Howard scored 15 points on 14 FGA's with 16 rebounds. When you compare the stats head to head, it's clear that both guys played well, and that Gasol was actually MUCH more efficient offensively.

Why spend so much time getting all riled up over a SINGLE play?

P.S. I gotta say, sometimes I read people's childish posts on here and it makes me want to stay away from PSD (that goes for the Laker haters and the Laker homers, by the way).

For what it's worth, all of Gasol's fgs were off tip-ins or passes from Kobe, in an iso set, Gasol and Bynum both scored a combined 0pts against Howard.

Trade Dwight for Gasoft and he would've dropped 30 against Gasol and the Magic yesterday.

P.S. I gotta say, sometimes I read people's childish posts on here and it makes me want to stay away from PSD (that goes for the Laker haters and the Laker homers, by the way).

so it woudl be fair to laugh about the smallest guy of the class if he tries to hit the bully fo the class who is 6-0 and fails to take him down.

On another note I would LOVE to see Gasol do something like that to Shaq... Oh man, that would be fun to watch.

On another note, your thoughts will count only when the Cavs win a Championship....

Yeah you're right...I wasn't making the argument that Gasol outplayed Howard in a head to head matchup.

I was directly comparing their stats and making the conclusion that each of them played well, and that Pau had a more efficient game offensively. That's all I was saying there.

Also, for what it's worth, I have always admired Dwight Howard as a player. Back when many Lakers fans (of which I am one) claimed that they wouldn't trade Bynum for Howard, I thought they were being ridiculous and kidding themselves.

I just wanted to make that last point because I am a Lakers fan, and not a Lakers homer.

I just wish there could be more objective discussion on this forum rather than a bunch of immature posts that are all just hate-based on one end of the spectrum and homerism on the other. Neither side looks all that good, to be honest.

I would trade Bynum for Howard thats a No brainer.

I would trad him for pau if Howard developed some Offensive moves beside dunks and a decent jumper so he could play PF

I agree with what you said, Pau was more efficient, but you have to take Kobe into account, he draws so much attention that sometimes you have to double and leave Pau open under the basket.

All in all, it was a great physical game and I hope both teams are back in June, just with different refs lol.

Pau was definitely fouled by Dwight on the other end before that dunk flagrant. I cannot believe the refs didn't call that. You can actually see Pau's jersey look like it's going to rip it's being pulled so hard.

Honestly the refs really let that game get out of hand yesterday. But if the Lakers make the finals I'd love to see them play the Magic again.

Dwight got 5 non-existant calls, so they didn't want to take him out on the only legit foul he committed all night... I'd love to see them play against each other in the Finals. I think after yesterday's game, Dwight will get his wish, a lot more people will be talking about Lakers and Magic in the Finals.

He's putting up 16ppg 3.2rpg 3.2apg 1.4tpg on 52.7FG% 48.5THR% 80.0FT% since the AS break

If he can do that throughout the playoffs, I'm happy.

what no ones pointing out is gasol fouled dwight before dwight pulled on gasol's jersey. why is no one pointing that out? since when is a box out coming up behind someone and put your forearm in his side and start pushing??? and gasol grabs dwights jersey first as well

in the video go to the 58 second part and you'll see what i'm saying. pau was doing that all night long

That's pure speculation...

Gasol is soft when compared to the likes of Dwight and KG etc, but the dude actually plays very good post defense and he's still wayyyyy more TALENTED than Dwight will ever be.

Dwights a freak who NEEDS his athleticism.

Pau is extremely talented and makes the most out if his lanky llama-esque frame.

I wouldn't say he's terribly more reliant on his God-given physique than Pau is. Pau's length and height help him a lot out there. Yes, he's very skilled, and that's come from working hard, but don't forget how tall and long he is.

Let's also not forget that Dwight is lucky to have such a big frame, but to fill it out with all that muscle took a lot of work in the gym. When he comes full circle offensively (and he's on his way) there won't be a knock in his game.

Anyway, as for the foul, I loved it. Really, as long as you're not going for a guy's head or neck I don't have a problem with a hard foul. Pau was pissed off and he was playing like it, if the Lakers kept this kind of intensity they'd be that much harder to play against. This time though Dwight and the Magic were just better, and you have to give them credit. They're a great team.

No he's not because Dwight's avged 22+ppg on 60+% shooting, Shard and Nelson have also elevated their game as well.

You don't need to rely on one player when you're gameplan is a balanced attack... See Spurs 1998-Current.
