If LA loses in Orlando which could very well happen, Dallas is only 3 games behind. A Dallas win on Monday and they're only 2.5 games behind.

never go by that ".5" garbage. At the end, all teams end up playing 82 games. Look at the loss column.

Currently, Lakers 17 losses and Mavs 21 losses.

So if we lose 2maro (which I don't think we will, I'm predicting 88-86), yall will be 3 losses behind us.

And in order to have the #1 seed over us, if you had the same amt of losses as us at the end, you would need a better division record (cuz the 2 teams split the 4 regular season games). Currently, not only do the Lakers have a better overall record than the Mavs, the Lakers have a better record against their own division (Pacific Division) than the Mavs' record against their own division (Southwest Division), and the Lakers have a better overall record against the Western Conference than the Mavs.

So there's a lot that would have to happen for the Mavs to Overtake the Lakers for that #1 seed.

I very, very, very complain about officiating. But the refs have their hands all over this one. So many calls on both teams that shouldn't be called. It isn't favoring either team at all...but it's obnoxious. This is gonna be like a 4 hour game, with like 70 FTs and 40+ fouls.

I dunno, Barnes was already holding the ball close to Kobe's eyes ready to inbound it, not like he was trying to surprise Kobe just send him a message.

Barnes would drop Kobe in one blow if it comes to that.

Everybody is going to start hating on Kobe even though Matt Barnes was trying to do the classic Shaq after-dunk antics (jump on a player and wrap your legs around them). Kobe saw Barnes jumping into him and basically said this isn't going to happen...

Barnes is simply being really immature right now. And then he went at Kobe by trying to fake throw the ball in his face. :laugh2:

To his throat? LOLZ. More like to his chest. Barnes dunked the ball and went after Kobe by blatantly extending his legs out to Kobe. Kobe was like, hell no is Barnes going to pull this **** on me so he pushed Barnes out of his way. Realizing this could be seen as a fight, he put his arms up to show the refs his intentions were to not let Barnes knee him or do the leg-wrap.

Great game. Orlando showed up. They look like the more inspired team for once. I think it all starts with Barnes. As childish as you may think he's been (and he does need to cool it), he's about all we have in terms of intensity. I think the team has fed off him.

Terribly officiated. But it's quite possibly been the more most evenly called terribly officiated game I've ever watched. Can't complain when that's the case.

Let me just say this. I'm a Lakers/Knicks fan, but what I've learned about NBA fights is this... Britney Griner is a better fighter than any NBA player. So basically a fight between the two would end in a couple scratches, and a lot of eye dancing.

God I LOVE (no homo) Matt Barnes he's the best defender in the league hands down! He shut down Lebron who leads the league in 4th quarter scoring and shut down Kobe today. I dunno man, he took some poor shots, but the only other decent player on offense today was Fisher. The Lakers were looking for Kobe to bail them out today, just like they have been most of the year. Great game by the Magic, but man they give up leads to easily, and VC is one of the most frustrating players I've seen in a while. I do agree. But still. Why not at least try to run the offense. He just flat out took over, in a semi bad way. He did make it closer than it should have been, so I can't really bash him. But still. It gets real predictable. 12-30 isn't really a good day either. Bynum beasted in the first, and Gasol was solid at times. But they totally disappeared later in the game (foul trouble or not).

Barnes is NOT the best defender in the league...but he is definitely elite. He set the tone today. He got a relatively unemotional Magic team excited. He's all we really have in terms of toughness and passion. Definitely the MVP of the game today.

Wow, what a game. Kobe single-handlely almost got them the win at the end. Gasol and Odom were horrible down low on the defensive end. Dwight ate them alive. I've never seen so many tick tack fouls committed by our front court. I like Barne's energy but I think he went a little overboard today. He should have been ejected IMO, he took it a little too far with the whole yapping and shoving.

You know what Kobe still shot better than his team today, who shot only 37.5% throughout the game. No biggie, I'd still take LA in a series anyday, and I truly thought the Magic were going to be a great team this year. I still think they can make the Finals by beating Cleveland (less confident now), but man they're just as frustrating as LA sometimes. Can't close leads, VC is sporadic, D12 picks up cheap fouls. Barnes and Pietrus play great D, but as poorly as LA played today they lost by 1 possession.

That was Dwight's worst offensive game in probably 2 months. He did pick it up, but he was horrendous in the first half.

No thanks. Matt Barnes willed us to victory. As tacky as that sounds, I seriously believe it. We lack killer instinct (it showed), but after he started getting into it, the team started to play noticeably harder.

Good game overall, good intensity. If LA plays hard like they do in the last quarter, they're almost unstoppable, kinda frustrating. It's like with 5 minutes to go in a lot of their games, they're like okay lets try and win now, which is just the wrong way to approach games. Orlando is almost opposite, they play great ball throughout 3 quarters, then they implode mentally. Missed freethrows, turnovers, bad shots, let other teams back into games.

I think I already answered your question. Kobe was young, immature and would retiliate when he was in a confrontation, but now by putting his hands up, it makes the opposing player looked bad. Kobe cannot afford to be ejected when his team needs him the most. Didn't you hear Mark Jackson say only Matt Barnes deserved a technical and not Kobe. Kobe was being smart. Kobe not upset after L: "If we play w/ this kind of effort, it’s going to be hard for a team to beat us 4x in a series."

I understand, to win someone will have to go through the champs, but this statement doesn't make much sense. It was a losing effort, despite how hard they played. And the Magic didn't by any stretch have a "great" game.

Lakers are frustrated and just need to stop talking and get it together.

Barnes did nothing tonight that Ron hasn't done a million times. You have to walk the tight line between dirty/grity to be a great shut-down wing defender. He did take it a bit far probably...but it worked. They got the win, he got his team motivated. Kobe didn't make FG in the third when most of this was happening.

If Ron Ron does it, no Laker fan is going to call it "childish" or say he's a "tool".

It's nice old school gritty, feisty, physical and annoying defense. What Barnes did today used to be an every day thing. And that's not a bad thing. He didn't cross the line. He did throw a bow (Kobe did). He didn't run at a player (Fisher did). He just got in some people's faces, talked some smack, and got the doubya.

whats wrong with what he said? he said he likes the effort. the same cirumstances of this game wouldnt be the same over a 7 game series: bs calls on bynum and howard, Barnes going all out to eject kobe, lakers stepping on the 3 point line in the most important shots of the game, FT fest in the first quartet etc.

eh the game could have gone either way... the refs made some bad calls on both sides which could have changed the game. this happens in any game so it doesnt really matter.

2. if kobe's foot was 1 centimeter behind the line, they would not have to foul at the end there and it could have gone to overtime.

3. kobe had a great look at the end, but missed it.

i think it was a good effort by both teams, and kobes statement is right, if they played like that every night, they would win in a series

Okay buds, nothing wrong with his comments. Good hard effort usually ends well. The Lakers fought this game and made it one despite been behind mostly the entire thing.

I've got nothing against Kobe, I really like the guy and he's amazing. He's a competitor 24/7 and these comments were a way to keep he and his team upbeat and I surely think they'll handle Toronto next game at home and work on a new winning streak.

Kobe hasn't been the same person since Childs knocked him out. He learned you can't just punch (or elbow) everybody in the face because you'll end up getting embarrassed.

Which is why he puts his hands up when someone like Artest or Barnes gets in his face, but when its Rondo he won't hesitate to put his finger in their face.

I was expecting this. So it's okay if Ron does it because he ALWAYS does? How can something that's okay if you do it all the time, not be okay for someone who rarely does?

What evidence do you have that he likes "getting dirty with elite ballas"? Even so, what's wrong with that? You'd rather him get dirty with the scrubs? And what does the amount of teams he's been with effect what he did tonight? I'm failing to catch where you're coming from. You're taking shots at what he did today, by pointing out how many teams he's been on. How is that relevant? Better yet, how does that make him a dirty player, or not a dirty player. You either are, or you aren't.

Basically, my thought process leads to this: The amount of teams, reputation, etc. don't actually matter. It's the act that matters.

If it's okay for Ron to do it, it should be okay for everyone to do it.

I had nice response typed up and submitted it, but the thread was locked by then.

Basically, it's cool if you want to make fun of us for being happy, joking about parades and such, but the two main reasons why I'm happier than usual about this win (and I don't think I've been gloating, can't speak for others) are...

1) the Laker contingency here is massive. 500,000+ posts is a ton, especially when consider this main forum only has 750,000. This win is sweeter because of PSD. If I never ventured onto this site, I probably wouldn't be nearly as happy.

2) in the Magic forum was talking about how we didn't think we could win a close game verse LA, and we did just that. Also, we aren't a physical, gritty, emotional team. Today, we showed that we can get down and dirty, we can get into an emotional/chippy battle, and still prevail. It's big for us. We really only have one tough/intense player on our team...and his actions kind of boiled over (in more ways than one) and really helped the Magic as a whole. I've never seen us play, let alone win, a game like that.

So keep the 15 championships, "this made your season", "schedule the parades" coming. I think it's all in good humor. But you do realize that that is why beating the Lakers is extra special.

LOL @ Pau's hard foul being bush...Hard fouls are hard fouls. Commonplace (probably 5 of those a game). Hardly bush. Pulling out another player's jersey is rare and you will hardly found a player with the audacity and arrogance to pull that off. Thus, it is bush.

What is up with Dwight failing to pimpslap Dwight Howard in the back, yet Dwight get's the continuation? And a flagrant.

Did you mean Pau? What would you say was worst? Pau attempting to hit Howard in the arm hard preventing the dunk with the game still in doubt? Or when Pietrus put two forearms in Gasols back from behind when the game was over? I'd say the latter was far worst, and dirty. In my eyes, MP will always be a dirty playing sore loser till he retires

I don't think many people realize how true this statement is... I've been thinking it ever since I signed up to these forums.

Wins against elite teams are so much sweeter when they give you something to brag about.

Apparently fouls (that are called to an exaggerated flagrant) are frowned upon by the team that receives them...even though Pau's intent to prevent the dunk from happening and his hit on the arm (not head, back, etc.) was as clear as day.

What a fail at life.
You have no clue who MP is, do you? He's just a quiet, respectful islander.
On the other hand, Pau is some massive, overgrown, Geico show-off.
Was that layup necessary? You guys were already going to win. You didn't need to rub it in anymore. Just take the ball behind the arc, and let the time wind down. Instead, he went for a drive. I'd be pissed as hell if someone tried to brag too.

The Lakers shot 3 for 12 from three (besides Kobe)...It will be a nice day when the Lakers perimeter players can reward Kobe and Pau for clogging up the lane and leaving them open for three.

Angel2Maverick

Sealed the deal? You do know the Lakers were Kobe's big toe away from a tie right. And a missed jumper away from another tie. Barnes jumper didn't seal a thing.

Should of, could of, would of, none of that matters. The Magic could have hit all their free throws and that would have sealed the deal.

A flagrant foul is a serious contact foul involving unnecessary and/or excessive and/or intentional contact in sport. There is a specific National Basketball Association foul termed a flagrant foul.

I think you will have a tougher team in the first round this year. Portland or San Antonio this season will be tougher than Utah last year. I also believe either Dallas or Denver this year in the Conference Finals will be tougher than the Denver team last year. Not to get off-topic, but i'm not sure your as overwhelming favorites to even come out of the West as you think.

As it stands you'd be looking at a first round matchup against the Blazers (who you struggle against MIGHTILY), a second round series with either the Suns or Jazz and then the WCF's against the Mavs or Nuggets and then (if you get that far) a finals matchup with the Cavs or Magic. That's one of the toughest routes i've ever seen to an NBA title. You wouldn't sweep any of those series.

We still are the overwhelming favorites. When talking about the West hierarchy, it's the Lakers, and then the rest. The East is now clearly either the Cavs or Magic, then the rest. Our hardest test is going to come in the WCF. I think Denver is a scary team. I see them as probaly the only team that can beat us in a series at this point. The rest, I feel quite comfortable with.
