"This is going to be another situation where something difficult that has happened in his life takes away from all of his accomplishments and everything he stood for," said Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown, who coached Iverson with the Sixers. "That, to me, is the saddest thing of all."

The divorce proceedings are the latest development in the deterioration of Iverson's personal and professional lives:

According to several NBA sources with knowledge of the situation, Iverson has been troubled by excessive drinking.

His legal problems include a number of civil lawsuits.

Iverson's once-brilliant basketball career is probably finished, before many had expected. At 34, he is left to ponder his future.

Now its starting to get sad, Larry Brown's statement is the most accurate description of Iverson's life and career.

How long until this thug goes bankrupt and ends up in jail?

Who knows.

Its always interesting to see people comment on Iverson, you're either 100% on Iverson's side or 100% against him to a point of hatred. Theres absolutely no middle ground for peoples opinions when it comes to him.

I want to see this guy finally fix things in his life, not just his basketball career, hes accomplished a lot already and single handedly changed the NBA in his own way. Every trend/style in the NBA, the music played during games, the coverage via SLAM magazine and DIME magazine, the negative image of some NBA players based on their look, etc.

Hes a basketball legend.

I do feel bad for him...

Another reason though for those people slamming his wife to shut up. It's sad, but something is wrong with him. He isn't a saint in this situation. He's not in the clear here. Seen out partying instead of playing basketball or even being with his daughter. Domestic abuse in the past. His wife suddenly divorcing him. Something is wrong with AI. There has to be a reason no one wanted to give him a shot, and Philly hasn't been too sympathetic towards him.

Hope things start getting better for him. But people blaming everyone but him need to step back and reevaluate things. Sad news for sure though.

No. It's obviously because she's a hoochie gold digger. Duh.

I'm joking. But that's what some people who know nothing about the situation are assuming.

This is just getting more and more sad now. I mean him sucking in Philly was kinda *****ty, but it was w/e atleast he got to retire as a Sixer, but then his wife filing for divorce after 5 kids and that big of a family, and now an alcohol addiction, which is apparently because of his fall of his career and the divorce.

This is just too sad now, and the worst part is what Larry Brown said, "This is going to be another situation where something difficult that has happened in his life takes away from all of his accomplishments and everything he stood for,"

Apparently he was cheating with multiple other women and they started calling the home. Lots of NBA player's wives tolerate the cheating, but when the mistresses start making house calls is where they apparently draw the line.

I hope and pray that A.I. gets through this. Everything happens for a reason and this just teaches him lessons in life. He could lose what's most important to him because of alcohol. Things gonna look up soon for A.I. there is gonna be a light at the end of his tunnel................. hopefully. Will forever be my FAVOURITE ATHLETE of ALL TIME.

I hope AI keeps his head up. There have been rumors going around the past few years of excessive drinking and big time gambling. To the point of actually being banned from a couple of casinos in Detroit. Now ask yourself: what in the hell does a millionare have to do to get himself banned from a casino? Thats pretty insane.

I've known a couple of people that have been to his parties and clubs he host and they all said he parties really hard. Like college kids in the dorm no school monday hard.

I hope he can get it together. Forget basketball, just for his wellbeing and his family's sake.

At the end of the day you still can't take away his accomplishments no matter what happens. Not only was he the best scoring lil man ever but he brought hiphop to the NBA....

No he did not it was alleged and proven NOT to be true. He did go looking for her after she willingly left the house. But typical A.I. haters would never care to know the truth. They see doo rags, his past, his lifestyle etc.

I honestly feel very sorry for Iverson. He is going through a shitstorm right now, and I'm sure it doesn't make matters any better that 95% of basketball fans wait for any reason to jump all over the guy's case. No matter what happens, I will always remember him as a warrior and one of the best basketball players I've ever had the pleasure of watching. It's truly sad to see one of the greats of my generation go out like this.

It's also just saddening in general how that generation of basketball players is on its last legs. Iverson is done, Garnett is playing on one leg, Shaq is not even a shell of his former self, McGrady is done, Duncan, although still averaging a double-double, is on the decline, etc. I grew up watching these guys. I will honestly feel sad for each one when they retire. It's just strange to imagine not having those players in the league.

I know that is also the generation i grew up watching but i guess its natural. Every sports fan has the same feeling at sometime. When they have to see those that dominated for years just being mere shadow of their former self. But A.I.'s decline has really come as a SHOCKER to me. When everyone was saying he has lost a step and his style of play will catch of with him as he gets older I was like no he will find a way to work through it. But its evident that he HAS lost IT! :(

One of the saddest endings to one of the most exciting players in the history of the nba. People will always have problems with his attitude and personality but there was no denying how spectacular he was to watch. I personally don't care about the issues and will remember him as the favorite player of my childhood. BTW, theres absolutely no reason to bash him in this thread. AIs been released, divorced, struggling with alcohol abuse, and has a daughter struggling for her life all in the last few weeks. Give the man a break and show some compassion.

I dont think he has blown through all his money, he did make about $21 Million last season. Its kinda hard for him to blow through $21 Million that fast without media taking note of it espescially in this day and age of TMZSports and other "snitches(aka sources) who discuss players' personal lives.

Wish A.I the best.
I met him when I volunteered at one of his charity events in west philly and he was very nice to me and my friends and signed an authentic jersey i brought along. seemed like a very down to earth guy and he was great to the kids.

i think he just has a lot of problems going on that we cant understand. we could try, but hey, im not a millionaire who's been under the limelight my entire life.

i cant imagine what its like to almost lose your kids but i wish the dude the best.

people often forget that Iverson was considered the best player in the NBA, at least one of the most feared players and now its all crumbling down in a matter of weeks.

of that 21 million salary he had last year, he maybe seen about 13 million of it. throw in his super lavish lifestyle mixed in with some alcoholism and his girly leaving his *** and probably taking half of everything along with god knows how much in child support. he will blow through that money right quick.

He's just a piece of crap, always was, always will be. But hey, he sure was a hell of a ballplayer though. He's got that going for him, which is nice. Unfortunately, he's a little turd in life. Alot of undeserving people in this world get blessed. He's clearly one of them.
