Finley is expected to sign the prorated veteran minimum in “the next day or so,” the source said.

He serves as the 3rd swingman off the bench, hes a better shooter than both Daniels and Allen.

47? please hes ONLY 37

Notice sarcasm in my response.. i completly agree with you.. i think he will be in the same sort of role Same Cassell was in when he was on the C's.

I really don't see why unless they don't like Nate or Daniels.

I like this signing because we have two roster spots and no rookies. This way we fill are bench with proven quality even if Fin is old he can still ball and he takes good care of himself.

Why do people think Michael Finley is still good?

Maybe because he shot the ball very well as a starter this year and didn't really start sucking as much till Pop went with him playing PF the last 2 years since Horry retired.

He isn't the Finley of old but Pop sure as hell didn't put him in a position to succeed recently much like he does Jefferson when he has him play PF

Plus Finley isn't replacing Nate or Daniels. He is sitting Tony Allen and Scal permanently on the bench.

Because they already have Luke Walton. Who else would they need?

He's shooting 38 percent overall, and 31 percent from 3.

He's a shooter that can't shoot, or defend, which is what Boston is trying to do.

theyre gonna have to start letting the celtics use canes and wheel chairs in games. lol man they are old.

To be honest, he's a good locker room guy who brings a ton of experience and can provide some much needed shooting off the bench.

geez give the guy a chance to prove himself on the celts before criticizing him. haters galore in here. you never know if a change of scenery could light a fire under him. everyone wants to say the celts are old. look at the damn spurs. duncan, ginobili, mcdyess, and they released finley and traded ratliff all up in the mid 30s. leave the celts alone. they turn that light switch on in the playoffs they're as dangerous as the cavs or magic. i think finley will do fine 10pts and a few assists is good enough for him.

No, he's not. Or else he wouldve signed with the Lakers!

Wow, I use to make fun of the Spurs being old. Don't understand this at all, if Finley comes off the bench yeah maybe he hits some 3's, but I thought Daniels was their 2nd SF? Unless they go with Finley and the 2, with Nate at point, but really Finley needs someone to get him the ball for a 3. Nate isn't really a true point, and will look to score whenever he's in the game, so I dunno, just don't get it.

Worst of all, is that I don't know what kind of defender Finley is anymore. I haven't seen him much this year, but at 37, i don't know who he's gonna slow down.

not a bad signing y not??? if he cant ball with the celtics he just stay on the bench, maybe he can come off it and help for 10 mins a game.......

Cant hurt thats for sure, even if hes finished

For the league minimum what did you expect?

If this means I never have to see Scalabrine again, I'm there.

No way they sit Tony Allen for Finley, TA has probably exceeded expectations better then any guy on the roster, and is playing some energetic D, unless say that worthless sack of crap Wallace.

Veteran Experience off the bench is what won Boston the title 2 years ago.
Good pick, he's going to play a small role, but will be better than Tony Allen and Daniels in most situations because of his shooting ability.

He can also play the 3, so if Ray or Pierce get in foul trouble, he is the first off the bench.
Nate can now take over as backup point, and feed Finely open looks with his penetration.

Makes them deeper and more lethal, not more athletic like they need to be, but still an upgrade.

See this is why I like you. You stay consistent with the direction you see this team should be going. I think Fin will listen to Doc and try his best on defense. But I have feeling your overall assessment is spot on.

Why do people think Michael Finley is still good?

I was thinking the same thing. He USED to be very good, but at 37, he's not the player that he used to be...and he was playing on younger, healthier talented teams back then.

And thats when I realized you know nothing about the Celtics. Ever since Allen has come back from injury this year he has been playing stifling defense and bringing great engery off the bench.

the reason for this signing is because Daniels and Allen both struggle with shooting beyond the arc so defenders will be waiting for them to be driving. With Finley he can spread the floor and gives us a desperately needed 3pt specialist off the bench that we lost in House. This will also allow Rasheed to move back to the post instead of hanging around outside.

That's the main reason. Pierce keeps getting banged up, and Daniels brings very little to the table replacing him offensively. At the very least Finley will be able to step up as a backup 3, which will allow Daniels to relieve both PP and Allen to give them more rest.

Not Tony. Tony plays far better defense than anyone we have off the bench (not named Wallace)

Sorry, dont really think Finley will do much. If anything he is insurance..maybe come in and knock down a 3. Im thankful for everything Fin provided for us, but he is pretty much done. If he can't make a wide open jumper he is useless, because he is terrible awful on defense and cant guard anyone.

It appearing that way isn't it? In 2008 they got PJ Brown. Last year it was Marbury. This year Wallace and now Finley.

Why didnt the lakers sign him !!!

Because the Lakers aren't built for 1 season like the old-azz Celtics! thats why! Lakeshow in it for hopefully a couple more straight titles! Don't need him.

Garnett-past his prime
Pierce-past his prime
Wallace-way past his prime
Allen-past his prime
Finley-past his prime

LOL

Poor Celtics ain't even sniffing the ECF this season AGAIN!

The guy would get plenty of playing time but it just happens that he is the only shooting guard in the league that can't shoot.

well he isn't clearly the player he used to be. But he's another shooter to the team. seems like the Celtics are just trying to mix things up to get back on track now that the playoffs are nearing.
