Tracy McGrady already began his recruiting pitch to LeBron James after he was traded to the Knicks Feb. 18.

T-Mac and LeBron have been in communication. "He's a good friend,'' McGrady said at the morning shootaround at Quicken Loans Arena. "He wanted to see me back on the basketball court and congratulate me on being back. I sent him an email that said: "I'm in the Big Apple. I'll see you here next season.''

LeBron's response was a "LOL.''

Anything bad that happens to Cleveland is good for the Knicks, so the Cavs announcing this morning Shaquille O'Neal is out about eight weeks because of his thumb surgery isn't the worst thing for Donnie Walsh's July 1 bid. Shaq will miss the first round of the playoffs and if the Cavaliers are stunned early, the chances of LeBron's departure goes way up.

McGrady can see a scenario of LeBron leaving if they win a title or if they got knocked out early this spring.

"(He) could go either way,'' McGrady said. "On one hand, he could say I gave you all something you never had, what you wanted. On the other hand, I've been here seven years, I tried and it just didn't happen. I want to start fresh. It could go either way. Nobody knows what the guy is thinking. Let's just sit back and enjoy and wait till July 1st.''

Despite his sore knee, McGrady expects some time on James tonight, with Wilson Chandler not making the trip because of personal reasons.

"It's what you really get up for,'' McGrady said. "He's a great player. The things he does on basketball court is unbelievable. He's a rare talent. A guy whose 250, 6-8, faster than most of the guards in this league and very powerful. God was like, I'm going to make you the perfect basketball player, the perfect body. He ought to be on his knees every night thanking the Lord.''

I am sorry but I just dont see him going to NYC no matter what the signs say. Even if the Knicks signed Lebron they would be a first or second round knockout. NY is just in a bad situation with players even with the amount of money coming off the books. They just arent that attractive right now as a franchise. Miami, or dare I say the Lakers, well that is a different story. Doubt he signs with LA though.

PLAN A for the knicks is LEBRON JAMES, DWYANE WADE or CHRIS BOSH
PLAN B is Joe Johnson or Amare Stoudemire

If the Knicks didnt sign any of those guys in plan A.. Tmac might sign for Cleveland(James) or Miami(Wade)..

JordansBulls

I think they will get Amare honestly.

masalex1205
03-04-2010, 02:53 PM
I think Joe Johnson and Amare would be a succesful offseasons for the Knicks. They could resign McGrady and Lee (since they've got his bird rights). PG would be the only issue:

PG:
SG: Johnson/Chandler
SF: McGrady/Gallinario (Sp?)
PF: Amare
C: Lee

Not bad lineup, giving away those picks is pretty bad though

No, we'll rather resign Lee then go for Amar'e who will want close to a Max.
Knicks need a playmaker badly, that;s why LBJ and Joe J will be our early targets. A Big comes second.

Why did Tmac want to go to the Knicks more than the Bulls when he could have made the playoffs with the Bulls this year.

His agent felt Tracy would get more exposure and minutes in NY, barring any problems he will.

I don't really see where this is coming from. He's played pretty well for the Knicks. He has scored the ball fairly efficiently and when he's not scoring he is setting up others on offense.

They just do not have enough talent (right now) and they were already far outside the playoff picture. Nothing he can do about it really.

Thats funny og McGrady to say, because he himself had left Toronto and had he stayed he would have been past the fist round the next season (and likely would have made a great SF/SG combo with Carter and had a dominant front court).

McGrady is the LAST person to give other players advice about what teams to go to and how to jump ship. He's jumped ship and forced trades enough and never won a single play-off series in his career.

Tracy McGrady is ... just about as slow as Charles Barkley. I don't see how any free agent would see him as a potential teammate. I honestly don't see him being able to really play next year. I watched him last night and I was genuinely shocked at the shell of a player that was on the floor.

Reyes6
03-06-2010, 05:01 PM
The Knicks Defense is now worst in NBA (imo) because Gallinari has no lateral movement and McGrady can't move too quickly.

And if they sign 2 max contracts, will McGrady come off the bench? They desperately need a PG/PF and need bench help.

But T-Mac is just trying to create a stir in FA to get people to come to NY, doesn't really bother me that much. Probably because I'm not a Raptor or Cav fan, but NY isn't doing anything for the rest of the season... so he's just trying to make news. No big deal.

I wish him the best in New York, but I see it more realistically that NY overpays for a Carlos Boozer and Joe Johnson combo next summer.

You might be exaggerating a bit, but you're right about the basic point. What sane top level free agent would be wooed by a guy who is hobbling up and down the court when their own teams and other teams would clearly be a better option. Realistically, I cannot see McGrady attracting an elite free agent to NYC.

8 years ago? Maybe. But sadly, not now. I really can't believe anyone thinks he's more than an expiring contract. It may be sad to see a career winding down, but come on, be reasonable. If a free agent is going to leave their current team, they have to see great promise FOR THE FUTURE. I don't see how anyone can see great promise in TMac's future. He's spent.

Is it really relevant who the most injured in history literally is?

I'm sure that won't be on the minds of the free agents that will be on the market. When they have all kinds of options they're not going to join a guy who was good over half a decade ago.

Is it really relevant who the most injured in history literally is?

I'm sure that won't be on the minds of the free agents that will be on the market. When they have all kinds of options they're not going to join a guy who was good over half a decade ago.

True.

If you think that the Knicks have one of the worst defenses in the NBA because of Gallo and TMac then you are totally off. Gallo is one of our best defenders, believe it or not, and did a solid job of guarding KD against OKC. The stats didn't show it, but KD was getting frustrated, and nothing came easy for him. The real reason that we suck on defense is because David Lee can't stop a turtle from scoring in the paint, Al Harrington is atrocious on D, House doesn't stick to his man, and Chandler has been underperforming on D. The last person you should be blaming on our terrible defense is Gallinari. Get your facts straight.

I hope that Amare goes to NY next year so that the Knicks can be in the postseason.

I thought you were a Rockets fan... Why would you want the Knicks in the play-offs next year:confused:

I thought that he was a Bulls fan

If so, then he probably wants to see that competitive Knicks-Bulls rivalry again.

T-Mac is telling LeBron to stay away from the crappy Knicks if anything.

If the Knicks are crap, the 76ers are the peanuts and corn stuck in the crap. At least the Knicks have something to look forward too.

He posts in the Rockets forum a lot say "we need to do this or that..." My point is, we need them to do bad so we can get the lotto picks.

They are a marquee team and I would love the Bulls to play them in the playoffs next year.
