*Raffi Torres to NY Isles (e3)

tsunami

torres wouln't be a bad edition since he plays LW and can put the puck in the net.

The Islanders are up to something MUCH Bigger than I expected (e4)

I like Torres, hard worker, former Islander, and he can net 20+ goals in a full season, as well as play defense. He's just a solid player, and he'd help us imo, and come pretty cheap.

ID LOVE torres how old is he?????

Id liek to add him for future, and trade sutton, one of the goalies, and either huter or park....

That trade deadline would make me happy...

kmo429

Torres is 28, not really that young, I'd say in his prime really.

I am hearing there is a better than 50/50 chance that either Huet or Niemi is moved.-Eklund Twitter

I think it could be Huet to the Islanders. If you haven't heard, DP is out indefinitely with knee selling. Niemi has also been announced as the starter for tomorrow's game. I think we do a trade similar to the one rumored earlier this week by CB.

WHAT?!!?!?! DP is out indefinetly again???? WOW this guys is FINISHED!!!!!

tsunami
03-01-2010, 07:27 PM
In a minor deal in which both players will report to the AHL, the Islanders have traded Greg Moore to Columbus for defenseman Dylan Reese.

kmo429
03-01-2010, 07:28 PM
Let's start this by trying to copy what we did last year. Trade Wieght for a 3rd or 4th, and then trade Hunter and Gervais for a 1st + old player

tsunami

WHAT?!!?!?! DP is out indefinetly again???? WOW this guys is FINISHED!!!!!

he has minor swelling... lets wait until they make a decision on how long he'll be out for before we start calling him finished. if he misses significant time i'll probably agree with you but it seems neither he nor the team are all that worried. if they were they would have waited until after the trade deadline to mention this. otherwise why would they screw themselves in any possible negotiations by letting it be known that dp is seriously hurt.

more on the dylan reese acquisition;

The 6-1, 205-pound Reese has four goals and 18 assists in 51 games for Columbus' AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, this season.

Point Blank has learned that Garth Snow has offers from at least two known teams of second round picks for Andy Sutton. However, the Islanders general manager is holding out for more before Wednesday’s 3:00 pm deadline.
ipb

hopefully this strategy works out for snow. would hate to see him end up with nothing... but at the same time it would be great to get a better deal.

kmo429
03-01-2010, 08:33 PM
Now way im happy with a 2nd for Sutton, Grebshkov got a 2nd, Leopold got a 2nd, Sutton should get atleast a 1st in that case.

tsunami
03-01-2010, 08:35 PM
i'm starting to think that might end up being the best offer.

hahahaha, another islander fan holding onto DP the guy cant even come back and play 5 games and be healthy, the longer we wait on him the longer hill hold this franchise back its time to move on boys, please, im sickk of this!!!!

joe j.09
03-01-2010, 11:06 PM
yeah i want a 1st for sutton.

tsunami
03-01-2010, 11:17 PM
^i said i would agree with you that the team needs to move on if they say he has to miss significant time. i'm just tired of the ny fan attitude of;

1 every little bad news is automatically the end of the world/worse case scenario.

2 when it comes to dp being a joke. he never asked milbury to trade luongo and draft him #1. he never demanded a 15 year deal or else he would leave. he wasn't injured doing something stupid. he was injured doing what he was paid to do. imo he always gave his best effort while wearing the islander jersey. to say he's a joke for playing hard and getting hurt is what i have an issue with. he's not a joke he's just unlucky. ..... gervais is a joke. :)

glorydays22
03-01-2010, 11:21 PM
Forget DP..who cares...any, he isn't the future for club. It's sad and I feel sorry for him....but his knee will always be an issue. If he can still play, which I don't think he'll be able to.

We have 2 young "big" goalies in the system - Koskinen and Nilsson for the future. Also 19 yr old Kevin Poulin

tsunami
03-01-2010, 11:25 PM
koskinen just had hip surgery to replace a torn labrum (sound familiar?) and is out for the year and nilsson is apparently not close to playing at the nhl level.

glorydays22
03-01-2010, 11:29 PM
nilsson is only 19, not to worry...

Regarding Koskinen, that really sucks...this guy is huge (6'5")...I was curious to see how he would do come camp next year.

tsunami
03-01-2010, 11:32 PM
he's scheduled to be back by camp but he missed a whole year of development. even still i'm sure he'll be a camp invite.

kmo429

A ton of interest in Andy Sutton.

Espn said that, and it's all they said.

tsunami
03-02-2010, 12:11 AM
^wonder why when the nhl forum thinks he's worthless

kmo429
03-02-2010, 12:17 AM
^Whether we're overrating him or not is beside the point, the people in there are clueless and make opinions of people based on what others think, half the guys in there who say he's worthless or he sucks have never watched him play, this season at least. They definitely underrate him morehtan we overrate him. We don't even overrate him, we're just the only ones who know he's played like a top pairing defenseman this yar and has arguably been better than Streit overall.

tsunami
03-02-2010, 12:23 AM
^yes i understand this. i'm just jabbing at those in the nhl forum who think he isn't worth ****.

A league source tells Point Blank that Dwayne Roloson is at the top of the Philadelphia Flyers’ wish list to solve their goaltending troubles.
ipb.com

chris botta goes on to suggest that dp being hurt may actually help snow because the islanders can now claim their other 2 goalies to be more valuable and they'd need more to part with one of them.

i wonder if dp is actually really hurt. i mean when you think about it in the past the islanders hardly say a word about anyones injury and now all of a sudden they're going to tell us about a little bit of swelling?...

tsunami
03-02-2010, 01:31 PM
here's a mystery...
eklund hasn't posted "rumors" on his blog or on his twitter in 15 hours... during the final hours of the trade deadline.
i wonder if he's dead(e5)

Sorry, but a guy like DP you dont act likes hes injured at this point, no way they would ever do that.....

When is th NHL trade deadline? Philie can have Rolson for there first.

tsunami
03-02-2010, 01:59 PM
yeah but it makes you wonder a bit with this team. ever since snow took over they've been totally vague with injuries and now they're saying hey look at this bruise everyone!

the deadline is wednesday 3pm (est)

a first for rolo would be great. chicago has also expressed interest in him and it makes it even more interesting that they're in town tonight.

Sutton dealt to ottowa for a 2nd.....probably a late one too....

Bad job by snow.

WOW, its SJ second rond pick too, so its going to be a VERY late pick :(

tsunami
03-02-2010, 05:46 PM
it will be around pick #55.

i don't think it was a bad move. at least we got something for him as he was 35 and about to be a UFA. i guess there just wasn't a strong market for him this year.

tsunami
03-02-2010, 05:48 PM
roloson to Flyers close
eklund

tsunami
03-02-2010, 05:56 PM
btw good for sutton. he's getting up there in age and has only gotten the chance to play in 4 playoff games in his career. i hope he makes the most of his opportunity in ottawa.

kmo429
03-02-2010, 07:15 PM
I think we at the very least could have gotten a higher second. I agree with tsunami though, this is great for Sutton. He's been a beast this year and it would be great if it could pay off for him. Ottawa has been playing well all year, and they just acquired a great defenseman, and Cullen right beforethe Olympics. He'll have a chance to o far in the playoff with Ottawa.

glorydays22

any word who we might be gettting back from philly for roloson?

joe j.09
03-02-2010, 07:30 PM
Im almost sure they dont have there fiirst this year(could be wrong), if thats the case then i would want one of there good prospects and a pick....

tsunami
03-02-2010, 07:52 PM
there are tons of rumors all over the net about roloson going to philadelphia. however, k. strang (newsday) & b. mackenzie (tsn) believe there's nothing to these rumors just yet.

btw according to chris botta the best snow has been offered so far for roloson was a 3rd. it's looking more and more likely that roloson will be here throughout the rest of the season.

tsunami
03-03-2010, 02:49 AM
If a Roloson trade does not work out, the Islanders will consider their highest bids for Martin Biron. Snow will not give Roloson or Biron away.
ipb.com

guess we'll have to wait and see what happens tomorrow.
my guess is unless there's a new offer to snow tomorrow neither will be dealt.

tsunami
03-03-2010, 01:31 PM

what good websites have good isle rumors?

tsunami

^go to nhl.fanhouse.com
adam gretz and chris botta are covering the deadline live via web chat

tsunami
03-03-2010, 03:44 PM
i think the ray whitney rumor was from eklund which means there's less than a 5% chance of it happening. i don't see how it would make sense unless the isles were shipping him right back out to another team.

Wow Snod did an AWFUL job at the deadline, i guess that what u get when u hire ur backup goalie to be the G.M.....what a joke....

kmo429
03-03-2010, 09:29 PM
Snw didn't get any offers that were worth it, but he still did a bad job, he needed to do something. this team is at a crossroads right now, and it's up to the GM to fix that. Snow sucks, let's face it.

joe j.09
03-03-2010, 10:00 PM

tsunami

easy with the snow sucks posts.. we've had a lot worse gms in our history as i'm sure joe, myself, and everyone would agree.
snow can't convince other gms to trade what we want for our players he has to look at what's on the table and decide to make a move or not.

* no one offered enough for roloson or biron so i don't fault him for keeping them.

* the best he was offered for sutton was for a 2nd round pick. for a 35 year old player.. who was going to be a ufa.. someone we weren't going to resign.. and in a market with man other teams supposidly offering up dmen. this was a no brainer. is sutton worth more probably, but this is what was offered and you have to take it.

* he upgraded our goalie position with 2 draft picks and roloson this year.. that worked out pretty well.

* last year snow traded campoli and comrie for a player and a first.. no one complained then.
he also traded guerrin for a 2nd.

* two years ago it was simon and bergeron for a 3rd and 6th.

* three seasons ago when we were a fringe playoff team snow went out and made a splash with ryan smyth in exchange for 3 prospects that no one cares about anymore.

* four seasons ago it was lukowich and kvasha for 2 3rds. and parrish and sopel for tambellini and a 3rd.

* and so what has snow done with these picks?

The hockey bible has awarded a grade of B+ to the Islanders, the best the Islanders have fared since the early days of Charles Wang’s ownership. The B+ places the Islanders in the top ten of the league 30’s teams in prospect development, according to The Hockey News.

these are all credit to snow.
do i think he's the perfect gm? no. but i do think he's done a fine job with what he has and the money he has to work with.

tsunami, I agree with most of your post on snow..but bottom line, at least move Biron. Biron no way in hell re-signs with the NYI. Like you said about Sutton, get as much as you can for the FA to be.

Also, I believe Guerin was for a 5th rounder..which at the time I thought was a really weak deal.

As far as the Ryan Smith deal...didn't we also give up a 1st?

Snow's GM skills in pushing other GMs to make a deal or get something another GM may not want to do is very very weak.

1. Yes, Biron was a must trade. We essentially signed him so we could trade him and we didn't...

2. Guerin was for a conditional pick that became a 2nd because the Pens won the Cup.

3. Smyth was a great trade. 3 1sts: O'Marra, Nilsson, and the 1st (Alex Plante 7.0 C). We made the playoffs and gave u garbage.

yes biron was shopped but i don't think the islanders were offered anything interesting

guerin was a 3rd i believe that became a 2nd with the cup win.

ryan smith we gave up 2 prospects and a first. but since we made the playoffs that first was a mid round and the player that ended up drafted by edmonton still hasn't played in the nhl. (alex plante)
the two prospects: ryan o'marra, robert nilsson

o'marra has played in 3 nhl games, nilsson (who i was actually upset was included in the deal) only has 7 goals this season.

glorydays22
03-04-2010, 11:03 PM
but now you lose biron for nothing..at some point snow just had to let Biron go..no matter what the pick.

tsunami

true but depending on the health of DP we may be offering another contract to biron.

glorydays22
03-04-2010, 11:31 PM
Biron would never sign with us. Why would he go through the same situation next year as this one? DP is untradeable...so once he's healthy he's 1 of our 2 goalies.

tsunami
03-04-2010, 11:41 PM
he probably wouldn't want to you're right.

but he is 4-11-2 / 8.99 / 3.24

don't know if he'll get many other offers.
