Real cool feel good story of a 7'8" center playing for Mountain State University (Can you say irony). Hope the kid makes it, but I can see him turning in to another Shawn Bradley.

Even if he does, he wont last long. Bigger you are the more brittle your bones are. One bad fall may have him hospitalized.

he looks like a good kid. If he makes it to the nba, I'll be cheering for the guy.

I actually think he has a chance just from watching that little clip. He seems to have more athletic ability then someone like Kenny George and he doesn't seem to have that weird walk that Kenny George had.

He seems more coordinated than either George or Sun Ming Ming. I was pretty impressed when he was kicking the ball around like a soccer ball. If he can stay healthy I can see him getting his shot, but only averaging 2 points and 2 rebs or so theres a reason he's not being talked about alot. Seems like a pretty cool guy though, pretty comfortable with his height saying he kind of enjoys the attention.

Glad to see if doesn't have any health concerns from his height. He wouldn't be a good NBA player though. Still has a bit of a lanky body.

Maybe a half court team could use him but at this point he is all height, that's about it.

Kenny George is the guy Ty H. dunked on, and yes, he has a partial foot apputated. I'm not sure how much though, he still be able to play with it, but I heard (and I'm not sure) that he also had a heart condition that only allowed him to play limited minutes.

This guy is huge though, but people over 7 feet have a hard time staying healthy. Lots of foot issues, and knee issues. The human body is just not meant to be that size and when a knee or a foot has that much size and weight on it, it just won't last, and if you get thinner guys (like Bradley), they just get out muscled and never really manage to dominate the boards, even if they get blocks.

Here's to hoping he pans out and gets in the NBA asap. We need some good, dominant centers.

Seems like a nice dude... Hope he can make something of his career.

Will face that same problems all guys that size face... Conditioning problems, fundamental skill level, proneness to injury etc. but he could have a solid career one way or another.

I really hope he gets to live his dream of playing basketball professionally. I would love to see him in the NBA, he looks like he has good coordination and can obviously dunk.

02-27-2010, 08:59 PM
Like whoever said before, that coordination with his feet is what impresses me. Obviously he won't be super athletic or anything but if he can be coordinated enough and put on enough muscle to hang in the post, he could be a nice option on a half court team. Emphasis on "could." Seems like a nice guy though.

Sturgess is averaging 10 minutes per game for the Cougars, who have three national championship game appearances this decade. Sturgess appeared in seven of the Cougars' first nine games and is averaging 3.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots.

its not the most up to date stat but it from his first 10 games. He is not getting alot of minutes. His college website doesnt list MPG.

he is not kenny George or Sun ming ming. they couldnt move as well as Sturgess. Sun Ming Ming's growth was due to a tumor, but Sturgess growth was natural.

OMG...big boy. But not very good. Only average 2 points and 2 rebounds a game as a junior on a small school team.

I'd say his chances are a long shot but I would not be surprised to see an NBA team use a late 2nd round pick on him. What a project he would be.

Yet he only plays 10 min a game, so i don't think any player can avg bigger numbers with only that much time.

That's what i was thinking..I think he could be good he has good coronation. Just needs to get bigger and be dominant since he has that height advantage.

Fun vid, thanks for posting it. Seems like a good dude. I'd like to see more extended footage of him playing. From the little bits and pieces they showed, though, he looked like he was handling the ball, his movement, and his shots pretty competently for his size.

what impressed me most about that video was him kicking around that soccer ball at the end.

ive seen my fair share of documentaries on giant humans...... and most of the time those dudes are incredibly awkward and can barely walk. The mere fact that this kid gets up and down the court easily and can move his feet like that are gonna be key if he wants any future in basketball. hope it works out for the kid.

kid might have a shot at the NBA if he can develop a good post game and a above average defensive presence

No thanks to this guy unless he proves himself.
