Why is Boston listed as the #3 seed over Atlanta when they both have the same record at 36-20 and Atlanta beat Boston 4 games to 0 this year?

Thanks for posting this. Would be great to see another Boston/Chicago 1st round series if this 1 is as good as their series in 2009.

Because Boston is leading their division. The three division leaders from both conferences automatically get the 1, 2, and 3 seeds. If Atlanta wants to move ahead of Boston, they need to beat out Orlando for the division title.

I'll take Miami... I'm just scared to **** about possible facing the Bobcats in the first round.

The second best team in a division can be the 2 or 3 seed as long as they have a better record than the other two division winners.

This was done due to the Mavs/Spurs debacle in 05/06 that forced those two teams to play in the second round when it should have been the WCF.

San Antonio Spurs -63 19
Dallas Mavericks - 60 22

The next best division winner was Phoenix with 54 wins. (Denver had 44)

This forced Dallas to have that memorable series with SA in round two and then they beat Phoenix in the conference finals.

So with that, I think it's more a typo than anything as Atlanta is the 3 seed at the moment.

that would be dangerous for the jazz to play the thunder, but i still think the jazz would win because the thunder are highly inexperienced

Jazz/Thunder, Phoenix/Dallas, and Atlanta/Toronto would be the most entertaining matchups.

Go to the bottom of this page on the link I provided. Under "tiebreaker basis" it says "(1) Division leader wins tie from team not leading a division"

http://www.nba.com/standings/team_record_comparison/conferenceNew_Std_Cnf.html

And actually you proved my point in saying that the division winners get the 1, 2, and 3 seeds in each conference no matter what the second best team in a given division does.

Cleveland and Miami (well, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade) could put on a great shoot out, that could be a really fun series. LeBron and Wade can hang a ton of points on each other.

If the 1/8 match-up remains the way it is in the Western Conference, that could be really interesting. Since Brandon Roy was drafted, the Lakers have a .000 winning percentage in Portland when Kobe plays, and a 1.000 winning percentage in Portland when Kobe sits...I think it's pretty clear what the Lakers would need to do to win that series...:p

i believe that when two teams are tied record-wise, the tie breaker then goes to the conference record... right now boston has a much better conference record than atlanta.. if conference records are tied, then they go head to head matchup for a tie-breaker...

That was changed. The division leader has to be one of the top 4 teams in the conference not necessarily an automatic 1-3 seed.

Look at 2008

Jazz had the 6th best record, but got the #4 seed because they won their division. You see they didn't get a 1-3 seed.

Ugghhhh OKC that would would suck for us. We have insane trouble against Durant and we have lost to them twice. But I wouldn't be surprised if they fell out of the spot, so I'm not worried.

not only that, i think OKC would be a different team in the playoffs anyways, but yeah i see them dropping back to 7th or 8th

I can honestly see the jazz playing the suns or spurs

Ugh...I dont want wanna face the Cavs. Though Wade vs Lebron would be cool. The HEAT have a ridiculously easy schedule remaining, so I don't expect us to stay 8th. I wanna face Orlando! We've beat them twice this season.

1- Cavs
8- Bobcats

2- Celtics
7- Bulls

3- Magic
6- Heat

4- Hawks
5- Raptors

That would be perfect!

I wonder why then that BOTH nba.com and espn.com though have the celtics as the 3 seed this year then. I doubt this is the reason to why the jazz were the #4 seed, but the mavericks and spurs did tie at the end of the season, maybe that was it? Either way, I could care less, I know the magic are the 2 seed in the east and don't really care about boston or atlanta cause we beat the crap out of them this year already.

They'll change it when the time comes, I think there will be an NBA Finals rematch from last season, with the results a bit different this time.

Nope, their bigs will get outplayed by Dwight like they did in LA, which will turn the series in the Magic's favor.

Lol. Dwight is good, but He can be taken out of a game just like he was in the finals. Phil Jackson makes changes on how to guard certain players in the playoffs, no point of doing it in the regular season to give the opponent an early look and time to make adjustments. Just like the finals last year, the Lakers didn't guard Howard the way they did in the regular season and he couldn't adjust. All you have to do is make sure Howard can't get the ball early in the shot clock and after that the Magic settle for jumpshots.

This isn't that same Dwight that went to the Finals, now he can be taken out if doubled, but that will get the shooters wide open. The Lakers did that to him in the third and the shooters took over, now their shots stopped falling in the fourth, but if you double Howard for a full series, game over.

Dwight can take any player in the league one-on-one in the post now, which means, A. you have to double or B. Hope he missess.

Either way, I'd look forward a great series if it happened, not as easy as last time around.
