View Full Version : Darko Milicic best free agent pickup?

How many teams should have went after a championship winning Center that was available for cap space?

For the Timberwolves, the biggest surprise of the night was the play of Darko Milicic. The former No. 2 overall draft pick was acquired from the Knicks in a trade last week and played for the first time in more than three months.

He was on the floor when Minnesota played its best basketball and finished with eight points and eight rebounds in a season-high 19 minutes of action. Despite the Timberwolves losing, Minnesota was plus-35 with Milicic, who is admittedly out of game shape, on the floor.

"I was trying to focus on breathing," Milicic said. "I was just focusing on breathing so I didn't die."

+35 on the night. Just think of how many times could have used him to actually help them in the playoffs.

The Knicks for one, as I said over and over again, even though people didn't believe me

"Darko Milicic" and "best" will never go together in a sentence... Other than "Darko Milicic is the worst player from the best draft ever"

i don't know if you're being serious or not. But being +35 for minnesota doesn't exactly translate into anything meaningful.

I meant to put trade deadline pickup, I don't know why I put free agent

And +35 is near GOAT status.

There are plenty of players from that draft that are worse than Darko.

What he can do is win a championship against a team with 4 future HoFers while playing with a broken hand.

Beno Udrih's net +/- average the first month of the year was like +26...is he a GOAT?

And Derek, what a stupid question. Of course, Beno is a GOAT.

I have allways thought that Darco just needs a place to get a chacne, Memphis realy didnt give him that chance, he was mearly an expiring for NY, I think that Minisota could be a team to actualy give him a chance though, he is a big man, C, defensive, and no mater what anybody says, he does have skill

:laugh2: Oh my goodness what a pointless thread. Darko will never get near Mike James's +100 every time he simply enters the game.

I want to know what trade was better.

Antawn was nice but Cavs will have to pay $60 Million extra in Jamison's 3 season + a 1st.

McGrady nice but Knicks had to give up a pick.

Dallas had to pay $30 million for Butler and Haywood.

All Minnesota had to give up was Cardinal who never played and $750,000. While Minnesota gets a defensive center with size that should fit next Jefferson and Love.

Being a Wolves fan I am anxious to see how our front court plays the remainder of the season. We now have 2 centers in athletic/Hollins and finess/Milicic to pair with Love/Jefferson. Say what you want about Milicic you cant deny he knows how to play. Going back in history he has a chance to beat out Rasho Nesterovic for Wolves all-time best center.

Considering Beno had an average of +26 after a month, not after one game, using your logic, yes.

Say the Wolves play 16 games in a month, Darko is on pace to be +560.

Unlikely, but if they keep going to the same lineups, he should definitely surpass+26.

another Sam Bowie or Kwame Brown -- take ur pick........i cannot believe this scrub was drafted 2nd overall, let alone b4 carmelo anthony and many others. Darko looks like a big man and plays like a guard making him pathetic to watch

True Dat!
Everybody talks about LBJ, and Wade, and Melo and Bosh, but bottom line is, Darko helped lead his team to a championship in his FIRST SEASON!!! AS A ROOKIE!!! And as SteveNash12389033 points out, he did it with a broken hand. Not a "broken finger" like Kobe, but a broken hand! It was the greatest "I'm-playing-with-an-injury" story since Willis Reed came on for the Knicks in the finals!

DARKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

why is everyone hatin on darko...poor guy..
he always seemed the worst...but he is a good player..

what did he do to deserve the hate??
it isnt his fault that he came from the draft class of lebron..
did you see the guy play??
he has range for a big man, terrific shot blocker, and has post game..
he is far from melo, bosh, wade and lebron.. but he is still a decent player if you will put aside how he was drafted..

i wonder why dantoni didnt use him in ny..
i thought he can use darko and get a decent center..

No matter what Darko does, he's always going to be overshadowed by the 2003 Draft and get discredited. That doesn't mean he can't produce for someone now though.

No, he shouldn't have been picked second in that draft. But that doesn't mean he can't play at all. If he can keep this sort of play up for the Wolves, he could prove to be a pretty nice role player for them over the next few years.

Darko will forever live in the shadow of the 03 draft class, but that doesn't mean he can't produce.

To me he is a solid defensive and rebounding guy that I felt the Knicks could have used but decided instead to go with another offensive oriented player in Brian Cardinal.

Hawkeye15
02-22-2010, 08:35 PM
He is way too out of shape to contribute to a winning organization this year, and he is back to Europe in 2 months. He was simply a rental for the Wolves, to see if Jefferson/Love can work together (especially on the defensive end), with a long, athletic center. Nothing more
I will say, I was pleasantly surprised the other night however with his performance. The Wolves were +35 with him on the floor

Plus he was the unanimous choice around the entire league for that second pick. You always take a chance on a big guy with talent.
