View Full Version : Can the Knicks make a run for the 8th spot in East?

New York Knicks are 12th in East with 19-35 with Miami 29-28 and Charlotte 27-27. Both teams are inconsistent and struggling, and we just saw that Tracy is somehow 'back' so my question is, can they make a run for that 8th spot?
What you think?

Will they? Probably not

I would'nt call T-Mac back cause of one decent game. But I just can't see them coming back they would have to get pass the Bucks to along with Mia or Cha both teams are way better then the Knicks.

well it depends on how long it takes wade to comeback and if the bucks got better after the trades.

Why stop it at 8th? When Eddie Curry comes back they will have a dominant lineup which can go on a tear. I think 5th seed is a better goal. And just think, after the season when they get Lebron and Chris Bosh, McGrady signs a mid level exception this team will win the Championship next year.

No!!!!!! With a very depleted front court coupled with the uncertainty of McGrady's knee, we have no chance. Besides, teams like the Bobcats, Chicago & Milwaukee are just flat out better than us. Their coaches know how to actually coach.

they cannot and will not

ManRam
02-21-2010, 12:52 PM
No. They've played 55 games so far. That means they have 27 games left to make up an 8 game deficit. That's gonna be damn near impossible. Even if Charlotte goes like 10-18, the Knicks would have to go 18-10. Neither of those two are gonna happen.

They have too big of a deficit. They didn't even win last night and people are talking playoff run??? Weird.

jimbobjarree
02-21-2010, 01:01 PM
no chance. Since they have our pick I've watched them alot this season, and they just arent consistant enough to sometimes even hold a big lead and win one game let alone a string of games. They have been solid at home, but only have 11 home games left now (including Memphis, Atlanta, Houston, Denver, Boston and Miami which I'd chalk up as Ls straight off the bat) and have a juicy 5 game road trip including Boston, Dallas and San Antonio and another 5 game western swing including Utah, Phoenix and Portland.

I just dont think they are consistant enough and their schedule isnt favorable enough

As a Jazz fan, it would be awesome if they didn't make it and it seems like that will happen.

Still, you never know if its the T-Mac of old. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see, even now I would say it is highly unlikely though.

The thought crossed my mind the other night and led to another thought.. which is more likely to happen: McGrady turning the Knicks into winner's or the Knicks turning McGrady into a loser? There's probably not enough games left to find out.

homestarunner93

Charlotte is struggling? I guess that's why they just dominated Cleveland. Charlotte is way better than New York.

statistically they are not out of the playoffs.

But realistically, they're 8 games back of the 8th spot. With under 30 games left, they only way they'll make it is if they go on a historic win streak followed by the teams above them going on a couple of losing streaks.

Which is highly unlikely. The only thing Knicks fans should be looking forward to is that they DON'T get the first overall pick in this years draft.

I understand that there are "DIE HARD KNICK FANS" but you need to be a real sports fan to understand that 8 games in the nba isnt 8 games in the MLB you cant make up games that quickly..... So as for the ban wangon and making the playoffs, there wont be...... so just enjoy the rest of the season.... And lets prepare for next year.... :)

The Knicks would have to go at least 21-7 to even think about the playoffs and I can't see that happening. As long as we give the Jazz a low lottery pick, I'm satisfied. I don't want the Jazz to sniff the top 10.

MSG34

I doubt they will make the playoffs but people are forgetting how valuable House and Mcgrady's leadership are. We really had no veteran presence. Al Harrington and Duhon were considered our leaders. I think we will come alot closer than most think but it's just too late. Maybe if this trade was made earlier in the year. But not with 28 games left.

We are getting one max player this summer, re-signing Lee, Sergio and maybe T-Mac. We will be relevant but no championship in 2011. however your "sarcasm' is almost truth.

Those moves also put us in great position the following offseason for FAs to add another elite player. The Knicks are back as much as you may hate it. Good to be a knicks fan again

I don't hate the fact that the Knicks will be good in 2-3 years. But.... The issue is I've been on this forum since what 2004 and for the last 6 years all I've heard was how great the Knicks were going to be. I heard it because they got Bulls players and every time it happened, fans said that the trades were a steal for the Knicks and will help them make it to the promised land. There was Jamal Crawford, Eddie Curry, then signing Chris Duhon and getting Larry Hughes. So you say the Knicks are back as much as I hate it? Well, I've been hearing that for 6 years now. When will this actually happen?

You can't deny that a lot of blame for the Knicks troubles have to do with their Front office management, or mismanagement. Do you feel confident things will change?

The knicks already blew their chance when they had that easy stretch of games in Jan-Feb.

Right now it's about making the Marbury draft pick sting less and hope Utah gets unlucky with the ping pong balls.

If they get in the Top 8 they will be able to potentially improve their team right away.

OG "Dee" LOCc
02-27-2010, 12:43 PM
I said this already but right now its all about getting as many wins as possible...obviously not making the playoffs but if we can stay over .500 these last games we can avoid another 50 loss season and the utah pick won't hurt as much
