View Full Version : Best Trades That Didn't Happen?

In the early 90's the Rockets, after missing the playoffs and seemingly not able to build around Hakeem, looked to move him to the Lakers in a package that included Sam Perkins, but it didn't happen. Keeping Hakeem paid off in the end since they won two titles with him. The Houston Rockets also tried moving Robert Horry in 94 for Sean Elliot, but the deal fell through, and Horry provided some key defence, clutch shots and the Rockets again saw a trade the fell through help them.

The Lakers saw Kobe demand a trade in the 07 offseason, but when he nixed the trade to the Pistons, Kobe remained with the Lakers and they have been to the finals every season since, winning another NBA championship.

Many fans and analysts site the "trades' that made teams better, Mark Aguire tot he Pistons, Rasheed Wallace to the Pistons, Garnett and Allen to the Celtics and Gasol to the Lakers are some moves that helped teams get to the finals, but sometimes it is the trades that don't happen which help a team the most.

So which non-moves this season do you think will end up paying off? Will Phoenix be able to win with Amare? Will Dalembert and Ingudala prove to be better kept than traded? Will Ray Allen's sweet stroke helped the Celtics to another NBA titles? These guys (and others) found themselves on the trading block but have remained with their respective teams. Which team will be happiest they didn't move their all-stars?

Pippen Trade Rumors (http://news.google.com/archivesearch?q=Tracy+Mcgrady+for+Scottie+Pippen+r umor&scoring=t&hl=en&um=1&sa=N&sugg=d&as_ldate=1997/06&as_hdate=1997/06&lnav=dt)

Here were some in 1997

Denver has the inside track on Chicago star Scottie Pippen if it's willing to part with the No. 5 pick and forward Antonio McDyess

How about Scottie Pippen straight up for Benoit ... Those players will be somewhere in the mix, as will North Carolina high school star Tracy McGrady. The 6-foot-8 forward already has $12 million

Jun 25, 1997 - An exciting if implausible trade rumor broke out Tuesday afternoon, suggesting the Bulls would trade Scottie Pippen, perhaps the second-most accomplished ... the Bulls would almost certainly take forward Keith Van Horn of Utah, a Larry Bird-like player, and high school prospect Tracy McGrady,

Jun 26, 1997 - Another report had Van Horn going to Chicago as part of a trade for Scottie Pippen; that was one of a number of rumors involving the Bulls' all-star forward. ... Included in that group was high schooler Tracy McGrady,

Jan 13, 1995 - 1s, then what's Scottie Pippen worth?' " said one insider with knowledge of the conversations. "He wants a top pick and at least one top player." ... The Bulls almost traded Pippen to Seattle for Shawn Kemp last June

Well, Pippen's last season was also Jordan and Jackson and Rodman's last season. All of their contracts were up and the Bulls knew they needed to start looking to the future. The McGrady picked might of helped put @$$E$ in the seats at least and let them suck long enough to get a couple good draft picks. I'm not a Jordna fan (sorry JordansBulls lol), but with 23 on their team and Rodman pulling the boards and Kukoc and Harper along on the wing, I think the Bulls could have pulled out another ring without Pippen, but it would have been hard, he was such a great ball handler and distributor, and about the only guy Jordan would trust enough to let bring the ball up. lol

Its all good. Sometimes these things take on a mind of their own. Every fan has memories of their own team.
But nobody else seems to be taking up the conversation so I'm grateful to you two at least... lol.

Ray Allen. He's the Celtics' only consistent scorer. I don't think that Nate Robinson gets them back to the Finals, but trading Ray could only have hurt.

Just yesterday! Rockets & Suns

- Rockets would of acquired C) A'Mare stoudamire from Suns in exchange for forwards Shane Battier, Luis Scola, Brian Cook, and future 1st rd picks...

Rockets lineup: * Yao out 2009-2010 season.

C) D.Anderson/C.Hayes/H.Armstrong
PF) A'Mare / J.Hill / J.Jefferies
SF) T.Ariza/ C.Budinger/
SG) K.Martin/T.Taylor
PG) A.Brooks/K.Lowry/G.Temple

Would of been a win-win for the Rockets because they would relinquish salary(especially if A'Mare decided opt out and test Free agency) or they could acquire a PF that would of been great with Yao next season(btw, yes Yao will exercise his option).

But yeah Rockets didn't get this deal b/c the Suns wanted to "waive" the medical report but the Rockets wanted A'Mare to take a physical. Good job Houston :: facepalm ::

who did the first round pick turn out to be?

okay we'll it was Derrick Rose. But on the contrary, if Kobe Bryant were to be acquired by the Bulls, the Bulls wouldn't of been that bad of a team IMO.

JB, you just copy and paste that from the other threads you've done on this exact topic?
