SWEET!!!

I'm actually stoked is doing the right thing for the team and resting up while he has an opportunity. I hope he rest for the GSW and BOS game next week since those are our only two games. That would mean that he would have 18 days rest and be ready for the final push!!!

Way to check your ego at the door Kobe

Jason Kidd?

Are you serious? Why not actually give the spot to a young player like OJ Mayo or Monta Ellis so they can make their first All Star game.

I thought Ellis would be a lock if Kobe didn't go. I won't complain though.

The NBA continues to become a joke with their ASG selections. They need to focus on building the young stars up rather than giving old guys like Kidd the nod for the ASG.

I mean come on. OJ Mayo? Tyreke Evans? Monta Ellis? Rudy Gay?

They all deserved the nod over Kidd, its not like people arent going to tune in to the game. All 4 guys above are atleast exciting and will play hard, Kidd might only play 10 minutes.

Ellis sprained his knee against the Mavs which is probably the reason why he didn't get an invite. The NBA likes to make the all-star game into a life time achievement thing. Stern most likely decided that since the game is in Dallas, Evans is just a rookie lets go ahead and make this Kidd's last ASG.

I don't think people should discredit his selection that much.

He's averaging over 9 assists a game and only taking 7 shots a game. He is playing like the perfect PG and just because he isn't scoring 25 a night like Monta or is the first option on offense like Aaron Brooks and Tyreke Evans, he is still deserving.

Good for the homecrowd to have another guy in it as well.

ManRam
02-11-2010, 06:35 PM
Yeah. Ellis is banged up. For all we know he turned it down...or the league ignored him because of it. It isn't certain he'll be ready to go on Tuesday after the break anyways.

I'm not a Lakers fan by any stretch of the imagination, but why isn't Odom or Bynum getting the freshly opened spot? Or Parker? Or Ginobili? Or Boozer? Or any other number of players?

Nash and Williams are already there to handle the ball. And Isn't Billups already on the team because of an injury? How many point guard does this team need?

They lost Roy and now Kobe. Who is going to play SG for them other than KD? Theyre going to lose.

Hahaha, losing Kobe is merely evening the odds. I still think the West pulls this out.

West
Guard: S. Nash - J. Kidd
Guard: D. Williams - C. Billups
Forward: C. Anthony - K. Durant
Forward: T. Duncan - D. Nowitzki - Z. Randolph
Center: A. Stoudemire C. Kaman - P. Gasol

East
Guard: J. Johnson - R. Rondo
Guard: D. Wade - D. Rose
Forward: L. James - P. Pierce
Forward: K. Garnett - C. Bosh - G. Wallace
Center: D. Howard - A. Horford - D. Lee

West is loaded at the PG, SF, PF, and C positions. East just has a much better SG to put up and a better SF to start off.

The East's bench looks kind of weak-sauce. The West's bench is pretty sick. Durant, Dirk, and Paul off the bench?! It's not fair...

I 100% think the addition of Jason Kidd was appropriate. Not only is he under-rated now because he is old, he has a much better statistical season than Brooks and belongs to a better team. Not to mention, it is in Dallas.

Why do people keep saying the "home crowd"? They will be probably like 20% of actual Mavs fans. Most of the audience will be NBA players and their family, celebrities, media personnel, and other fans from all around the country

And how is any of this even logical? Brandon Roy goes down and they replace him with a center? Now Kobe and they replace him with a pg?

mcgswfan
02-11-2010, 08:44 PM
I get that the ASG is in Dallas and it's good for the home crowd for Kidd to get in but I still think it's a scham that he did.

What the NBA should do in this situation is put up polls online for 24 hours following an announcement that a certain fan selected player will not play and let the fans decide who gets in rather than Stern making the decision. After all the NBA ASG is the ultimate exhibition game put on entirely for the fans, so the fans should have the final say. They could easily put up a poll at nba.com that says: Kobe Bryant out for the All Star game, please take part in this poll and select who you think should replace him: Monta Ellis, Rudy Gay, Manu Ginobili, Tyreke Evens, Aaron Brooks or OJ Mayo? This poll will stay open for the next 24 hours. That would be the best solution IMO and nba.com would get tons of hits, possibly millions of them, during this time frame so it would actually help the league (online traffic leads to purchases of tix, merchandise etc, more traffic means more business). If the results end up in a tie, then Stern can be the tiebreaker.

Of course, this can only be done up until about 48 hours before the game so if another player backs out within this time frame then Stern could decide because of time constraints. So it's not like he would be losing any of his power, he would just postpone it until the waking hours leading up to the ASG and also, he can influence the poll by deciding which players would get put into it. The fans would love this so it would be a win win situation for everyone involved.

Karl to choose Nowitzki to replace Kobe as West starter

Nuggets coach George Karl said Thursday night he likely will choose Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki over Denver's Chauncey Billups to replace injured Lakers star Kobe Bryant in the Western Conference starting lineup for Sunday's All-Star Game.

"My gut feeling is I would choose either Chauncey or Dirk, and to be honest with you I'd probably lean towards Dirk," said Karl, who will coach the West all-stars.

Karl cited the game being in Dallas as the reason why.

"Yeah, the karma of the game is 100,000 people," Karl said. "I think it would be good to give Dallas a representative. They've had a good year."Denver Post (http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_14385630?source=rss)

What does that have to do with anything? The game is supposed to celebrate players who have had a good year not career achievement. Just because the game is in your town you shouldn't be awarded spots on the team. What is the game was in New York or New Jersey? Would 2 or 3 knicks or nets deserve to be in the game if any? If that was the case Terry deserves the spot over Kidd.

Melo will be moved over to SG and Dirk is to star at SF I think.

If this is true then Bosh should start for AI. Seeing as how hes having a great year and hes probably the best player to ever be born in Dallas (I think).

Except mainstream fans don't know all these guys. They sure has hell know who Jason Kidd is. Not to mention the All Star game is in Dallas.

Remember one thing, the All Star game is just an exhibition game that fans vote in the players they want to see.

Didn't a coach put five 7 footers on the court at once a few years ago? I can't remember properly, but I think the coach put Yao, Duncan, Dirk, Garnett and someone else out there :laugh2: :p

Shaq was the other one.

And plus...THE GAME ISNT EVEN IN DALLAS PEOPLE. IT IS IN ARLINGTON.

Thats a god awful arguement. Lots of teams play in cities that aren't technically the city the team is named after. Arlington is located inside the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and they are playing at the Dallas Cowboys stadium, which is about 15 minutes away from the American Airlines Center.

finally no T-Mac, no Iverson in the All Star game. sometimes it'S better to lay off because things get solved by themselves...
