I don't follow Islanders hockey too much, but how is your rookie doing? I don't think i've heard too much about him.

kmo429
02-13-2010, 04:33 PM
^he (tavare) had a great start but is slumping badly the last 30 games or so. He had 15 goals in his 1st 31 games but only 2 in the last 29. He seems to get pushed around a lot and isn't a strong skater. If he can get stronger this offseason he can really blossom into a great player.

And tavares may have just scored lol, 3-3!

dp was "ill".
plus you got to think they're hoping he does well to see if a trade partner will bite.

Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro is out still with the flu (he missed Friday's practice as well) and Scott Gordon said he will not play tomorrow against Ottawa.

newsday
looks like roloson tomorrow

Islanders are currently in 12th place.

6 points out of 8th place.

We have 2 games at hand on the Canadians, the current 8th place team.

Only 3 teams to leapfrog.

I say if we pull of a win tomorrow, we highly consider keep Hunter, Sutton, Park, and Weight, and maybe claim Jonathan Cheechoo :)

A win could put us within 4 points of a playoff spot. IF that is the case when the Olympics break starts, I am against tanking.

tanking this season is only way this team will ever be able to build themselves that great young core to win a cup, were not getting top FAs without a new stadium so we have to do it threw the draft....we need another top player and there are 3 big time prsopects coming out in this draft.

I dont know why you think that, we have 3 future stars, we have Schremp who was a 1st rounder, we have great defensive prospects in De Haan, Hamonic, and Ness. We also have Hillen and MacDonald who have played very very good this season. We also have Rick DiPietro, but we'll have anther top 15 pick this year, possibly top 10 or even top 5, our core is already set.

tsunami
02-14-2010, 01:27 AM
i honestly am still routing for them to win... but i'm just not all that upset if they lose. maybe if like kmo still thinks they go on some amazing run i'll start to think differently.

like joe has said many times, it not going to hurt them in the long run if they lose and end up with a top 3 pick this year.

1. no you probably don't

2. as of right now we're a top 5 pick. i really can't see us getting out of the top ten. and yes we have a nice core of young players but it wouldn't hurt to add one more big named prospect.

kmo429
02-14-2010, 01:46 AM
Nor I am very disappointed if we lose, Because I realize that this is the 2nd year of a rebuild and the Isles nor the fans should expect a winning team. But, I still think in the long run that making the playoffs this year will benefit the team better than another top 5 pick this year. For Tavares to experience every aspect of the NHL, winning streaks, losing streaks, slumps, hot streaks, regular season, and playoffs, and more, in his rookie season would be a dream come true, and it will benefit him an all our young players next year.

tsunami
02-14-2010, 01:49 AM
possibly drafting another play maker to play on his line for the next 5+ years would be more of a benefit to JT than playing in and losing 4 playoff games.

kmo429
02-14-2010, 01:56 AM
^What's our record against the Caps this year? Who's our goalie? We can advance. Tavares is a playmaker, I think him, Moulson, and Okposo will be a dealy line next year, and I think they'll use that line, it was great early this season. 2nd line, Bailey-Schremp-Petrov

kmo429
02-14-2010, 01:57 AM
Didnt the KHL say they might release him after this season./?

we've been over this before though.. the isles had a good record against the rangers in 94 (they lost in 4 being outscored something like 24-4), they had a good record against ottawa in 04 (lost in 5), we thought they could possibly beat tampa bay (nope)... teams will play us at their top level in the playoff and you'll see more of those 7-1 capital victories then you will see 3-2 islander victories.

kmo429
02-14-2010, 11:05 AM
^Once again though, Caps have a bad enough defense that we can keep every game close, even with our lackluster offense, which isn't bad it just went on a bad streak, and if DP can get hot (I'm pretty sure he'll be our #1 playoff goalie) we could do it.

tsunami

you got to love that the islanders power plays are brought to you by the NY lottery. they have about as good of a shot at scoring, as you do to winning the jackpot.

^depth

i like gordon, i think his system can work really well.

kmo429
02-15-2010, 02:25 AM
Losing 3rd period leads like 10+ times this year is depth?

tsunami
02-15-2010, 02:47 AM
i think it's a big part yes. we have no real scoring depth. we may have only 1 player reach 25 goals (moulson) and only one player to reach 50 points (okposo). we only have 4 players who have double digit numbers for goals. that type of offense wont get you goals to add onto leads.

losing games in the 3rd also has a lot to do with defensive depth. sutton, streit, and macdonald can't play the entire game. gervais a disaster, is a -13 and averages almost 20 mins of ice time per game. meyer is -7 and is getting 15 mins a game. kohn (although he looks promising) should be at bridgeport but is instead playing 12 mins a game.

kmo429
02-15-2010, 06:51 PM
^Yeah Gervais sucks, and Meyer isn't too much better. The offensive depth is a problem but it seems like Comeau and Nielsen are really coming around, but Bergenheim and Tambellini have been disappointments this season.

tsunami
02-15-2010, 08:15 PM
begin imo has been ok.. his goals are a disappointment yes, but i think his aggressiveness has been there.
