Not a bad thread at all Ragun. I would have to go with Derrick Rose. He just might have what it takes to get to Dwayne Wades echelon in the future. As of right now I see a huge jump in his confidence and his game.

There's a ton of guys who are candidates but no-one is head and shoulders above the rest.

Kevin Durant
Monta Ellis (won it in 2006-07, could he be the first player to win it twice?)
Chris Kaman
Aaron Brooks
Gerald Wallace
Brook Lopez
Andrea Bargnani
Danilo Gallinari
Carl Landry
Rajon Rondo

I've never been a fan of giving the award to second year guys, they're meant to improve substantially. A pretty large, diverse field of candidates though.

Aaron Brooks definitely should be in the conversation. He's put the Rockets on his back since McGrady and Yao have been out. I guess you could through Carl Landry into the discussion as well, though he has cooled off a bit.

I have Brooks, Gasol (Marc), Wallace and Noah as my primary candidates.

Chris Bosh is easily the most improved player - taking the spot for top PF in the league, there is no other pf in the league consistntly puting up his numbers

Its Durant. he went from scorer to legit All NBA, superstar

Kaman, Love, M. Gasol, also come to mind

02-07-2010, 03:19 PM
Corey Brewer anyone? I've never been a big fan but he's totally re-tooled his jumper and is working his way up the boards on steals and blocks. Heck the last few games he's even become clutch making big plays and big shots. The doubts are starting to fade.

This guy shouldn't and won't be a top 10 candidate, but Donte Greene has really turned it around this year and I just wanted to mention him. Last year he looked completely lost and couldn't even get consistent minutes on an awful team. He was the worst defensive player on the worst defensive team in the NBA, and now he's arguably the best defender on a bad defensive team. He won't be a DPOY candidate anytime soon, but he has really made an effort to improve on defense. He's also a much better decision maker than he was last year and doesn't try to do too much all the time. The other night he had 31 points against the Suns and showed that he's not just a shooter, he can drive to the hole as well. A 6'10 SG that can defend 3 positions and slash to the basket is tough to find.

The thing that hurts Donte is a few things though, he isn't a big name and has done nothing special, also he is inconsistent, but he did improve but don't look for him to win any awards.

When did I say he would or should win any awards? All I'm saying is that he's improved a ton. Last year it looked like we may not even pick up his option, and now he looks to be part of our future and has arguably the most potential out of anyone on the Kings.

If Donte had gotten minutes from the very beginning of the year, there's no question that he'd be in the MIP discussion talks. It really is incredible how much he's grown in a year, but it's too bad no one recognizes it.

Danillo and it shouldnt be close.

My second idea would be Marc Gasol.

Can't really give it to someone who barely played last year, if Blake Griffin magically comes back for the last ten games and gets 20ppg next season he won't win the MI award. I would say Brooks or kaman, but my homerism is saying Andrea bargnani and Chris bosh. CB4 is someone who actually worked hard to become better. Other people mentioned in the list were already good, just stepped up for people who left or are injured.

When you shoot as many 3's as he does your FG% is going to look bad, look at a guy like Billups. It doesnt mean hes inefficient. Look at his offensive rating instead (114). Hes a sniper with loads of potential and there is nothing that suggest players cant grow without being alone, in fact adding Bron could just as easily hasten his development. Still hes no MIP, he never got a chance to prove his previous level of play

Andrea Bargnani is having a great season but it was expected of him. But Danillo completely came out of left field. When D'Antoni said he was the best shooter he'd ever seen, people laughed at him. Though he might not be the best shooter (yet), his 3 pt range is ridiculous.

definatly kevin durant. he improved by 5 points in scoring and is leading his team to a very respectable record. its hard to improve 25 points into 30 . especially when hes already in the 20's digits.

his improvement is bigger than someone who imrpoved by 7 points example

player 1

first season 10 ppg
second season 17 ppg

durant - 25
next season 30

durant is the most improved player.

although i think brooks and durant are ahead of the rest, im surprised zach randolph and goran dragic arent getting any love. Actually dragic doesnt have the numbers to be considered and hes a second year player, but he went from looking like a lost puppy out there last year to being a nice backup to nash.

Luke Ridnour not being mentioned one bit yet is disturbing. He's easily in the top 3 for consideration. If he started all year, he'd be putting up ridiculous numbers. He's putting up 11, 3 and 2 on 48/40/91 in 22 mins per game. Everything about him is improved. Also, hate to go with the same team but Bogut has been phenomenal this year. Ridnour and Bogut are the reason the Bucks are winning.

Noah. He's become an elite defender, and his numbers have sky-rocketed too. Without his improvement, the Bulls are in deep trouble.

How many players dropper a ton of weight working out in the summer becoming faster, more athletic, better jumping and with better feet combination?

Mar Gasol needs to be in the conversation.

Is not euro bias.

Durant should be on MVP conversation not MIP

David Lee.

Went from a "hustle guy" to a legit offensive threat. The guy drains jumpers like it's nothing and is leading all centers with 3.5apg. Combine that with his 20ppg on 56% fg with 11.5rpg and you got a guy making the leap to All-Star caliber player.

How about Jamal Crawford or Zach Randolph? Older guys who are finally helping teams win some ball games.

Reddick, Kaman or Brooks

IMO Durant shouldn't be in this discussion. I find it insulting hat he's even considered for this award.

I say Danillo.

Andrea Bargnani is having a great season but it was expected of him. But Danillo completely came out of left field. When D'Antoni said he was the best shooter he'd ever seen, people laughed at him. Though he might not be the best shooter (yet), his 3 pt range is ridiculous.

What exactly has he done this year that was so improved from last year? His game is no different than it was last year. Because of his injury (played like 28 games), you just never really got to see him his rookie year. Thats why hes looked much more improved. Sure hes upped all his stats, but hes playing more (increase in minutes and games played)

Had Gallo not been hurt and played a majority of his rookie season, hed be looking much the same as now.

Aaron Brooks, Joakim Noah, Andrew Bogut, and Monta Ellis are all top candidates, but I think Marc Gasol deserves it, he is not only increasing his scoring and rebounding by alot, but his Field Goal % has skyrocketed from 53% to 59%, which shows to me he has really improved, and is not just taking more shots. I think David Lee is somewhat of a good candidate, but his FG% has lowered from recent years, and he is averaging more turnovers this year than in recent years.
