I was wondering how come Steve Nash has become a beast with the suns, but didnt quite put up those type of numbers with the Mavs?

Dirk was the leader over in Dallas. Once he moved over to Phoenix, he took on the leadership role, and showed everyone what he was capable of.

Always wanted to know myself how all of a sudden you become a superstar in your 30's and 10 season in the league.

Becuz Nash is one of those rare guys that continue to get better with age. While most guys eventually burn out at this point, he's still going strong and playing as good as he ever has. In Dallas, he simply had not hit his prime. If he was still there NOW, who knows just how great the Mavs could be.

Better overall team around him. And he's in a system that is perfectly suited for his abilities.

If you remember, when Terry Porter was coaching...his overall numbers trended more towards what they were when he was in Dallas. But then when Alvin Gentry (who uses a more D'antoni-ish system) came back in, Nash went back to being Nash.

Oh. And steroids.

Amare. Dirk is fantastic (and better than Amare in my opinion), but I think Amare being a much stronger force going to the basket helped Nash a lot (Marion as well when he was there). He still has had lights out shooters like he had in Dallas, but he never had a monster at the rim there.

different offensive scheme? under Mike D'antoni's run offense?

Roids.

Seriously, it is a little puzzling. Dirk seems like an ideal player to play with in his prime.

HANDCHECKING

Everyones stats went up

Also his last year in Dallas was comparable to his first MVP season, again another reason why you dont pay attention to per game averages

Simply because he is known as CanJe, or Canadian Jesus.

But really, it's because he keeps his body in tremendous shape and is one of the most disciplined players in that department (diet and off season conditioning).

It also helps to be one of the best all-around shooters the game has ever seen and vision he developed from playing soccer growing up.

? not really...
PPG 14.5 --> 15.5
APG 8.8 --> 11.5
FG% .470 --> .502

I would say Nash has continued to get better because so much of his game is based on basketball IQ, and as he's matured, he just gets smarter and smarter, and his commitment to a ridiculous training regimen has kept him strong at the age most players decline.

Dirk and Finley were damn good when Nash was in Dallas. Those guys made Nash not seem as valuable. When Nash went to Phoenix, he had a raw team that he was able to take the lead on. He created Joe Johnson and Amare using the same skills he used to help develop Dirk and Finley.

nash + dirk had fail pick/roll. Nash became a superstar when he had people like Amare doing monster jams off his assists

Steroids???? You idiots! So if he is on them, I guess Lebron is on them, Kobe is on them, and probably Jordan was too?! Sometimes a change in scenery is all a player needs to better himself. Steve is a more uptempo kind of player, and he had the tools to do it in Phoenix. Dirk is too slow for that kinda game. Nash is able to what he is doing because everyone on the Suns is going the same speed he is.

I think it's partly what people have said about getting out of the shadow of other very good to great players (Finley and Dirk), and yes playing with the likes of Amare and Marion (and others) helped his cause as well.

But I think it's also partially because he's just one of those amazing athletes! He could've gone pro (at least in North America) for soccer and was also a pretty good hockey player growing up from what I've heard. Nash is just talented, every once and a while a true athlete comes along that can simply excel when given a sport and Steve Nash is one of those players.

He'll eventually drop off at some point it's true but it is crazy to see him almost improve with each season he plays!

It's simple, he has a bigger responsibility and leadership role on the Suns, whereas on the Mavericks, he was more of a role player.

Because his strengths (offense) was the core of the Phoenix offense. Throw him in the Championship Piston team of 2004 (defense oriented) and its gonna be a different story. And we all know that offense wins games, defense wins championships hence, Steve Nash cant even get himself in the Finals.

I have no idea what you meant by this. And its not like he wouldnt have made the Finals if he werent in the East say during Kidds time.
