View Full Version : Pierce, Billups to headline Three Point Contest

td0tsfinest
02-05-2010, 04:01 PM
A year ago, Daequan Cook lost his outside shot after winning the 3-point Shootout during All-Star Weekend.

This year, the third-year Miami Heat guard will return to the event in hopes of regaining it.

Cook was one of six 3-point specialists named Friday by the NBA to compete in the Feb. 13 competition in Dallas.

He is joined in the field by New York Knicks forward Danilo Gallinari, Phoenix Suns center Channing Frye, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce and Denver Nuggets guard Chauncey Billups.

Unless Dirk didn't want to do it, they really should have gone to an 8 man competition. Throw Dirk and Shard or Reddick into that mix and you have an incredibly entertaining field.

Curry and Billups are the only intriguing guys in this competition.

I'm a gonna go out on a limb and say that the rookie Stephen Curry will win the competition.

DLeeicious
02-05-2010, 04:14 PM
Definitely not Pierce, he has way too slow of a shot, he will struggle to get them all off or shoot too quick to be successful. I like Cook or Curry.

Oh, and why will Ben Gordon not do this contest / why don't they invite him to do this contest? He would tear this apart!

How the **** is Boobie Gibson not in it?!

The guy is second in the league at 46.9% and has been shooting incredibly well as a starter.

Without sounding like a homer I can't believe the Cavs don't have anyone in it. They're second in the league in 3 point percentage and Anthony Parker is 4th in the league at 44.7% so they could have put him or Boobie in it.

With that said I think Gallo or Curry will in it.

I really hope people dont pre-judge Gallo based on what team he's on or his PPG for the season. Since Day one he has been drafted everyone has been raving about this kids shot. He really has compitetion but im sure hes going to win it

BkOriginalOne
02-05-2010, 04:24 PM
A lot of people will say Gallo, But I'm going with Steph Curry, because he is lower to the ground, has a quicker release, and can move around the court quicker in between racks.

Also, the boy is nice from outside.

Paul Pierce

02-05-2010, 04:31 PM
Would have liked to see Morrow in this. I figured to see Gibson in the contest too. A little surprised neither of them made it.

How has Pierce's 3pt shot been this year? He was a big surprise to see in the contest for me.

Him or Gallo.

02-05-2010, 04:36 PM
how is it that no cavs are in this contest and they are the #1 three point shooting team in teh league, makes no sense. Mo williams, Danie Gibson, Anthony Parker. All in top 10 for 3pt percentage

RaptorsFanatic
02-05-2010, 04:37 PM
Pierce's release is too slow for this, he won't last.

BenFrank
02-05-2010, 04:42 PM
I'm surprised Aaron Brooks, didn't make the cut.. fanboy or not.. he's a better 3 point shooter than a few of those guy's.. and came close to makeing the all-star team

02-05-2010, 04:46 PM
Oh, and why will Ben Gordon not do this contest / why don't they invite him to do this contest? He would tear this apart!

Because he has only played 28 games and is shooting 30% from 3.

Daequan Cook sucks so much.

ye he really does. 30% from the field and hes in the 3pt contest:speechless: only cause he's the champ.

BTW, a mod should merge this thread with the one I made earlier.

I agree, I think Pierce's release is going to take a couple secs of the clock. Add in this injury, he might not be as fast moving from one station to the other.

depends on who will have the best shooting touch on that particular day.

Homer pick was Frye. But I would probably bet on Gallo.

I didn't realize Billups was a 3pt shooter. Surprised there weren't better options out there.

I can't believe Pierce is in it. He has one of the slowest releases possible for three point shots. Part of the contest is being able to shoot quickly. And he's not really that good at threes, he just has a high percentage this year.

Also, Jennings should have made over curry. He has more three pointers made. But I guess Curry has a pretty darn good %. I think Jennings is close to being on pace for the rookie record tho.

Real disappointed not to see Morrow in it. I've BEEN saying ever since he's been in the league that this kid is a straight assassin from beyond the arc.

Also Boobie has been shooting at a great clip and has even kept it up as a starter. Those two definitely deserve 2 be in it.

JayAllDay
02-05-2010, 05:33 PM
This year's contest sounds pretty interesting. Two guys over 6-10, two possible HOFers in Pierce and Billups, rookie that was hyped for shooting, and the former champ in Daequan Cook. This sounds much more interesting than before.

However, isn't Pierce hurt?

PHX2daDEATH

Anyways I'm going with Channing or Gallo .. Channing if he gets in a good Rhythm

---------------------------------

I'd love for Chauncey to win it, but for some reason I just think he won't really take it seriously enough to be that focused. Before CP3 went down, he was planning on being in Cabo that weekend with his wife. I think he's gonna be in semi-vacation mode for this contest and the AS game.

But what the hell, I'll cast my homer vote for him anyway.

The way Chauncey is shooting in the Nuggets/Lakers game I can see him winning it. The guy has one of the most pure strokes in the league from deep, and his release is pretty fast, he doesn't jump very high and doesn't expend a huge amount of energy every shot, all key ingredients in winning the 3 point contest.

What a terrible group for this competition. How does Pierce and Frye get in over guys like Okur (best shooting C in the league last year), Ray Allen, Battier, Dirk, Nash, Deron, Mike Miller, Peja, Troy Murphy and other guys known for shooting 3's. Forcing Pierce in there is just asking for another Michael Jordan flop performance. And Frye, c'mon already.

Gallo, Cook (although I didn't think he deserved the invite last year), Billups, and Curry are fine by me.
