Really???

Jennings just had his WORST month of the year of his young career but still won the Rookie of the month for January over guys like Jerebko/Gibson.

Jennings this month: 14.2ppg on 32%fg :o 3.3rpg 6.6apg

Taj Gibson this month: 8.5ppg 7.5rpg 1apg 1.2bpg 44%fg

Also, Bulls record this month is 10-5 compared to Bucks' 8-7

Why does Jennings wins it by Default????

Seriously???

I always forget, is this award separated by conferences? Because Tyreke Evans is the obvious choice if not.

^^^^I'm pretty sure it is separated by conferences cause I remember Jennings and Evans winning it for the month of November I believe.

32% sucks, but he still had a better month

If that's the best month any rookie in the East had, then that's sad.

For the record I've been firmly suckling Tyreke's sack since the beginning.

I'm sure Gibson's play is what put them over the top for the month...

well he is averaging nearly 7 assists... people give this guy no credit... yea taj is shooting a higher %, but jennings wins in pretty much everything else (besides boards obviously)

i dont think there is even a comparison between jennings and taj yet

I was about to reply to this to tell you how you couldn't be more wrong, and that it wouldn't make sense to give it to Evans again with Steph Curry putting up better numbers more efficiently and the Warriors winning more games than the Kings (how this happened with them relegated to about 5 D-league signings do to injury is beyond me). But, I just checked and Steph Curry did get the Jan Rookie of the Month award, so I'll leave it at that.

As for Jennings getting it? That's tough, because he played like garbage most games, but still probably better than anyone in the east. To me Taj was just sort of... there. Didn't do much one way or the other, at least Jennings had a major role/impact on the team. Even if it wasn't always going his way this month.

Taj Gibson is like the 7th best player on that team and almost always the last offensive option. Jennings has to run the entire offense. 100 times out of 100 Jennings gets this award over Gibson.

DeRozan anyone?

Mario Ellis won out west actaully, not Evans?

As for Jennings winning rookie of the month of Gibson, Jennings does have him beat in scoring and assist and is a bigger cog in his team's success than Bigson is. No knock on Gibson, he's got game and some talent. But winning the rookie of the month isn't too big a deal.

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry were selected as the NBA's top rookies for the month of January.

Jennings picked up the Eastern Conference honor for the third consecutive month after averaging 14.2 points and 6.6 assists in 15 January games. He totaled 25 points on two occasions and recorded his second career double- double in a January 23 win over Minnesota, when he had 18 points and 13 assists.

Curry got Western Conference honors after averaging 19.1 points, 5.1 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 15 games. He also averaged 39.5 minutes per contest and shot 48 percent from the field. Curry poured in a career-high 32 points and added seven assists in a January 22 win over the Nets.

Others considered for the awards included Oklahoma City's James Harden, Sacramento's Tyreke Evans, San Antonio's DeJaun Blair and Toronto's DeMar DeRozan.

Jennings had an amazingly poor shooting month, but still impacted his team positively in a lot of other areas, with nearly 7 assists a game and getting a horde of steals. Curry was just a boss for the Warriors, being the only rock that team has had all season and showing marked improvement in January. Apologies to whoever made the other thread but all it was going to do was promote hate, so let's try it this way.

Congrats to both of 'em:

The only thing more impressive for Gibson is his FG percentage. And doesn't Jennings take more shots? Outside of that, Jennings, as the leader of a weak team, had a better month.

averaging over 6 assists alone is better than anything any other rookie in the east is doing. If you take away taj gibson from the bulls, not a lot happens. Same with jerebko. but if you take away jennings, the bucks dont have a team. Rookies are expected to not shoot a very high percentage. Still 14 points and 6 assists is doing way better than anyone else you suggested Cool007. You are being such an obvious biased homer.

I like how the NBA forum is 25% Bulls and Raptors influenced on the main page. I like the Bulls, but Taj is isn't going to get a Rookie of the Month honor because he doesn't have sexy stats. Like 8.5ppg isn't amazing. Bulls are winning, but thats because D.Rose is a beast. Also record doesn't come into play when you judge a rookie of the month candidate.

I guess they got sick of Evan's constant 20/5/5. The Kings losing a ton of games hurt his chances, but Evans continued to be the top rookie. But congrats to Curry, who after a horrible start, is starting to get it.
Jennings, again? Is the east that bad in regards to rookies? He just continues to get worse after his torrid start. Looking at the stats, all the good rookies are out west beside Jennings, and I will give Gibson a nod.

I'd really thought Tyreke Evans and Brandon Jennings would sweep the Rookie of Months nods every month of the season.

Tyreke was a beast but I got no problem with Curry. He played well.

Curry is doing more than I thought he would, a lot of people liked him coming out of college but for some reason I wasn't too big on him. Guess I was wrong for now.
