Source: Yahoosports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AhI1KNE6aL6Hdcw8feHa1UC8vLYF?slug=ys-paulsurgery013110&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)

New Orleans All-Star point guard Chris Paul will undergo arthroscopic surgery for a cartilage tear in his left knee on Monday and could miss one to two months, sources close to Paul told Yahoo! Sports on Sunday night.

Paul injured the knee in the final moments of regulation in a loss to the Chicago Bulls on Friday.

Test results revealed a partial tear to Paulís meniscus. There is still some doubt as to the extent of the injury, one source said, but it is not believed to be season-ending.

Paul is expected to miss the All-Star Game because of the injury. Once the NBA confirms Paulís unavailability, commissioner David Stern will appoint an alternate player to the Western Conference roster.

Terrible timing especially since the Hornets started to put together some wins.

They'll need Collison to play at the same level he played against the Grizzlies every night.

Damn... I bet David West REALLY regrets throwing that pass that resulted in Chris Paul colliding with the camera man and injuring himself so far ahead of him.

I think this could lead to West being traded. The only thing that was stopping it already was the belief they could contend this year, and if Chris Paul is out for the rest of the season, the trading trigger might be pulled.

ARE YOU F'ING SERIOUS!!!! Come on, we are playing great and one poor pass by West and the NBA carelessness of where there cameramen are than we are done. OMG OMG this is some BS!!!!
Collison is a great PG, I think we won't suffer too much, but not having Paul on the court SUCKS!!!!!

With CP3 getting arthroscopic left knee surgery (my best wishes to him), he's not going to play in the All-Star game.

Commissioner David Stern usually chooses the replacement in the case of an injury. Who do you think he will most likely choose?

These are my top 5 guesses.

1) Andrew Bynum (LAL)
2) Chris Kaman (LAC)
3) Aaron Brooks (HOU)
4) Monta Ellis (GSW)
5) Rudy Gay (MEM)

Im saying Bynum not cuz I'm a homer, but basically on a nationally televised game on ABC, against the Celtics, in Boston, he played like a BEAST, and I'm sure Stern was watching.

Kaman has been out the last 2-3 games with a sprained ankle, and he'll be back within the next 1-2 games, but the Clippers are 20-27, have lost 4 straight (including to a lowly New Jersey Nets team), and are playing a really bad stretch of ball.

Monta Allis is beasting it, but his Warriors don't have even 15 wins yet.

Aaron Brooks is another strong candidate, he just hasn't gotten enough recognition.

Rudy Gay as well as been playing awesome, but I don't see Stern putting 2 grizzlies in the all-star game with Z-Bo already in there.

Isn't playing like an all-star anymore???

Last season he was an all-star (deservedly) and averaged 17.7 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 6.4 apg on 42% shooting (41% from three)

This season he's averaging 19.3 ppg (a career high at the age of 33), 3.1 rpg, 6.1 apg on 43% shooting (42% from three)

So if you had done some research you'd see he is even more deserving this year. He's arguably Denver's MVP and should definitely get the nod.

Second option should be Monta Ellis and if it doesn't have to be a guard, Chris Kaman would be up there as well. He's way more deserving then Bynum.

This isn't the east. You have to be 500 or better unless the fans vote you in.

Either Bynum gets in because LA has the best record and should have more all star representatives than the 9th seeded Phoenix Suns, or Brooks is selected to be the guard in Texas since he is the Rockets best player this year and they are playing well without Tracy and Yao.

Just because the Lakers have the best record in the West doesn't mean they should have the most all-stars on the West team. The Cavs have the best record in the league and only have one all-star.

The all-star game is a celebration of individual performance, not team performance so record shouldn't really have any thing to do with it. Granted a good player on a bad team will put up better numbers but as an individual there is no way Bynum deserves it over Kaman and any non Laker fan will agree.

No way does Brooks deserve it over Billups or Ellis. Yes, he has been the best player for the Rockets but it's been close between him Carl Landry and Luis Scola. He isn't the out and out best player on that team AND he isn't having as nearly as successful a year as Chauncey or Monta.

Name the last western conference all star that was on a below 500 team (not including fan votes)

Brooks may not score like Monta but he damn sure doesn't turn the ball over and cost his team games like him either on a regular basis so it is a double edged sword and a disrespect to the Rockets for them not to have 1 all star with their play this year imo.

The title should simply be "Who should replace injured Paul as all-star reserve" looks like a double post otherwise. I vote Billups over Brooks and Gay for sure. Ellis could but his team has a bad record which will hurt his chances, same with Kaman. Bynum has a shot, but since he's not a PG i will stay with Chauncey

02-01-2010, 03:07 AM
I hope losing the NBA's best PG for most of a year is enough to get David Stern to rethink his position on where camera men are situated at the games. The system now is such a joke. I actually can't believe there aren't more injuries this way.

Why are you guys thinking its going to be Kaman or Bynum? Paul is a point guard and is going to get replaced by a guard. It wouldn't make much sense to replace him with a center. I would have to say Billups gets in on the fact that the Nuggets dominate when he plays and is one of their most important players. Obviously being a Warrior fan, I want Ellis to get in but the record is going to hurt his chances.

Tough call. There were so many good players who were snubbed (though all players who made it deserved it). If he is going to replace him with a point guard then I'd go with Billups, but if he is going to just pick any player from any position, I think he'd be inclined to pick Bynum (because he loves to see the big market teams have a presence at the playoffs), though Kaman is equally deserving.

It will be a travesty if Chauncey is not selected. The Nuggets went 12-3 in January with Melo missing 9 games, and Billups posting his best CAREER month ever. Nobody else in the West who has not been selected already comes close to performing at the level he's been performing at.

Can someone please remind me what is supposedly more impressive about Monta's stats that Chauncey's? Because when I look at the numbers, practically everything I'm seeing suggests the exact opposite - and often to an overwhelming degree.

what are you trying to say? i dont get what you just posted. so monta is averaging -19.3 points, -3.1 rebounds, and -6.1 assists?..................is monta like shooting in the other teams baskets...explain how numbered stats are "opposites"

will result in a fall in the western conf standings for the hornets. really unfortunate that he has been dealing with injuries this year because he is invaluable to the hornets.

This really sucks for the Hornets and will really push them back in the playoff race.

To replace him in the ASG, either Billups or Ellis, most likely Billups.

They should trade David West now.

Darren Collison can only keep up this ridiculous play for so long. But who knows, maybe he can keep em afloat with West and Okafor until Paul gets back.

Out of all the teams that drafted, I say we did the second best, first being the Kings.
