Does a ring this year really add to Shaq's legacy or would it have the same effect as Kareem when he got his 6th ring in 1988 when he was pretty much more of a role player?

Sure. Then Shaq will have won a ring with Kobe, Wade and Lebron.

But he hasn't won it with Mike James!

Or Mark Blount..SO he has to play at least 2 more season to play with all the greats.

It adds, how much though is dependent on what he actually does. If he does prove to be the factor that gets them past the Magic and Dwight, then yes, it adds some to his legacy.

Of course it does! If cavs win this year, he will get a lot of credits. He already is known as a big time winner and that will solidify his legacy. Also, that will have significant effect on his all time ranking.

Note: And winning championships with Kobe, wade, and Lebron all three! wow!

That is some accomplishment to win with Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade. Sadly, it won't happen with LeBron James ;)

But hey, Shaq can come back to Hollywood as a free agent for the mid-level in the summer of 2010

I agree with this. I wouldnt be surprised if Shaq was only go 60-70% and saving it for the playoffs. If he shuts down Dwight and shows up offensively it would certainly add something to legacy.

If he did win a ring this year, I think that YES it will be a part of his legacy because he can justify that he is the missing piece on such teams such as lakers, heat, then maybe cavs. Not to mention that he's been in championship series in his first 3 years with his new team.

It adds to his legacy in the sense that he has an extra ring, but everyone knows he hasn't been batman on a title team since '03.

Yea Ive been saying Shaq saves himself for the playoffs for years now, but the reality is hes been pretty horrible in the playoffs the last few years.

How would winning a ring ever do anything but help a legacy??? Even if he was the 8th or 9th man, it would matter a lot.

any championship adds 2 a players legacy if they r making a difference, and wether he is 100% or not, he will make a difference

Yeah I got a sneaky feeling shaq is going to put a lot of pressure on himself to play well in the playoffs. And with the slow pace of the playoffs fitting Shaq's style i see him putting up a good 12 ppg and 8 rebs this postseason. Not amazing but good enough to make teams still think about him in thier game plan...

I mean, what is different about this team from last year besides Shaq really? Dwight wasn't terrible effective verse Boston or LA, but he beasted Cleveland. If Shaq can contain Dwight, and the Cavs win the title, he deserves a lot more credit than most of us think he should.

but he beasted Cleveland.

In cavs-magic first meeting this season, Howard had 11 points. only 3 points when one-on-one with Shaq. if you count the FT. Plus the magic are not nearly as good.

of course. He's going to be contributing. If they do win, he had a part of it. He's no longer the guy he was before but he can still make a contribution for this team.

Hate it or Love it Shaq is already one of the greatest big men of all time taking Orlando, 3x LA, Miami and possibly the Cavs to the title game. Remeber except for LA none of these teams had championship history. Shaq brought the winning attitude and made those teams INSTANT FAVORITES to win. At this stage Shaq has far more impact on the defensive end of the floor that doesnt show up on ESPN highlights like his dunks when he was young, but his presence in the middle is still a force. Yes this ring will add to his legacy, being number two at his age is a COMPLIMENT much like Kareem became number two to Magic later in his career. No doubt I'm a Cavs fan but I believe the Cavs are going to win this year and once Lebron breaks through I believe we will all witness Jordan/Bulls type of dominance. You may see Shaq win multiple rings with Lebron.
The additions to this years Cavs team have made our team much better and deeper, our defense is better and we finally have a low post presence for Lebron to play off of. For all those who said that Shaq would clog up the lane and that they would not be able to play together. YOU WERE WRONG. And we are getting better and about to make a trade for Iggy maybe watch out.

Anytime anyone wins an extra ring it for sure adds to their legacy. Their still contributing on a championship team.
