You just started a bashing thread. He's already in the discussion so can't we just leave it at that? Everyone is going to have their own opinions. You're not going to arrive at a clear consesus here.

Lol. You just answered your own question. Jordan is the clear consesus and a lot of people would agree with that. But, I guess 2-3 more titles wouldn't hurt.

kobe can win 12 titles and in career and people will still find a way to hate on him and NOT consider him the greatest ever....they will find something

Would be pretty hard to argue with 12 titles...

he needs to find a time machine and exist before jordan was in the nba, then he'd be the best. because with jordan happening a generation earlier, no one will see any player better than mj.

be likeable. i'm serious. he's a hell of a basketball player, one of the top 20 ever already but it wouldn't hurt if so many people didn't think he was only about himself. in other words be a consummate teammate.

lets see kobe cant get rookie of the yr. so lets see.... 9 more scoring titles, 6 more finals MVP's,5 more regular season MVP's, 2 Defensive player of the yrs., finish his career avg. 30.2ppg, win 3 more titles, oh and lead his team to 73 wins

he could find a time machine and go back in time 2 break MJ's legs so he could never have played... other than that, there is not enough time for kobe 2 take out MJ

Yeah, he could try not taking 30 shots a game. Maybe pass the ball on occasion.

Edit: I think a perfect example is LeBron and Kobe a couple nights ago. LBJ scored 20 in the first quarter. He had a chance to have a really special night. He took just 11 shots in the next three quarters, and after the game he talked about how his teammates were making shots and the double teams allowed him to find open teammates (finished with 8 dimes). That same night, Kobe went 4-21 with 1 assist. I'm not using ONLY this game, but this is typical. Kobe, in my opinion, seems content to score 35 points in a losing effort. Lebron is happy to score 15 if he can help his team win in other ways than scoring. Kobe cares about himself, and his talent makes that ok most of the time (ie. 4 rings). Lebron seems to legitimately care more about his team than himself. Thats just my opinion anyway.

He'd have to play above and beyond the ability that he's shown so far in his career, which is amazing in and of itself but not "greatest of all time" amazing.

Basically he'd have to get even better than he is now, and even though he's got inhuman conditioning at 31 with over 1,100 games on his legs I don't see that happening.

+1 also, the obligatory "look, I don't hate Kobe" comment so Lakers fans don't get extremely offended at the rest of us not bowing to their savior.

If he can play at a high level at an older age it would make me consider him better than MJ. But, it'll take a lot... and maybe make an animated film.

and maybe make an animated film.

MJ never made a song with Tyra Banks though. We got to add that to the equation.

Truth is kobe want ever b considered the greatest ever Jordan has done so much more than kobe will do in his career and in less time. Jordan played 15yrs and kobe is in his
14th compare the resume's thru both of their 13th yr. and there is no comparison not even close actually by looking at it this even laker fans might laugh at how no one can compare to Jordan not Kobe, heat fans not WADE, Cavs fans not LEBRON, no one. I mean dont get me wrong are all great players but JORDAN is in a league of his own. So lets just enjoy them while they are still playin.

He can win 7 rings being the go to guy, 2 3peats being the go to guy, have Nike give him his own brand, win a DPOY, 5 more finals MVPs, win another dunk contest, win a college national championship, win 4 more MVPs, win college POY, win a ROY, 3 more all stars, 3 more all nba 1st teams

Umm i think that covers it

The better question is, who are you?

Mavrix

3 more titles as the number 1 option as well as MVP a couple more times and a couple more DPOY awards.

i'm a huge Kobe and Laker fan, but MJ is the greatest ever period.

Kobe would not be Kobe had he not studied MJ's game.

Kobe would be in the discussion with a successful ending to his career, but I don't think he will ever top MJ.

Good question but i think the answer is simple. It's 3 more rings with kobe still playing at a MVP type level. That would make 7 titles to Mike's 6. I don't care how much we love MJ you just cant argue with 7 rings.

you forgot to put shoot over 50% from the 7 times. mj did that 6 times, and 5 years in a row. kobe has yet to do that once.

whoops your right. lol

I blame kobe more for the Detroit loss than anything though. His selfishness was the reason they lost to them. WIth Boston they just had the better team no shame in that.

Ok. Nice question. Let's see: To match the greatest player of all time, Kobe needs to------
win 6 titles as the MAN (he has one now), win 6 finals mvp's (he has one now), win 5 league mvp's (he has one now), win 10 scoring titles (he has 2 now), win 1 DPOY (has none), be in All-Defensive First Team 9 times (has 7 now), be in All-NBA First Team 10 times (has 7 now), be a 14 time allstar (has 11 now), finish career with with 30.1 ppg etc etc...

So it's a pretty simple math to me. Hope that answers your question. Yes, you are welcome!

nope. There is absolutely no way Kobe passes Jordan, among another few in my book. I can see biased Laker fans throwing him over Bird, Magic, Kareem, Wilt, Hakeem, Shaq, blah, blah, blah, but there is no way he passes Jordan. He would have to win the next few years of rings, become more efficient than he ever has, even at his old age, and win a couple more MVP's.
Not happening basically. Top 10 player ever. Be satisfied Laker fans, you had another all time great.
