The Los Angeles Clippers have targeted Jan. 20 as the night they hope rookie forward Blake Griffin(notes) finally makes his NBA debut, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

The Clippers play the Chicago Bulls at Staples Center on Jan. 20 before departing for an eight-game road trip. Griffin, the top pick in the 2009 draft, has yet to play because of a stress fracture in his left kneecap. If Griffin is healthy enough to face the Bulls, heíll play limited minutes.

Griffin began doing on-court workouts with Clippers assistant coach Fred Vinson on Dec. 28, but isnít expected to be cleared for contact until the middle of this month. Griffin hasnít put on any additional weight, despite the layoff and has worked on his 3-point shot and ball handling. Heíll likely come off the bench once he does return.

Great News.

I hope he is just as explosive as he was before the injury. The man is simply a beast.

The way he dunks the ball I can see him tearing the rim down. I really do hope he plays with the same intensity when he come back.

He looked great in the pre-season so I can't wait to see in on the court when the games really matter.

it's not like he's a cancer and holding out or something. he's injured. he's a good kid who tries hard. he still has to perform though.

^Not that this is on topic or anything, but where does Brook Lopez's name come from? The man is white (went to Stanford) but Lopez is a hispanic name...

You do know that you don't have to be white to get in to Standford right?

Plenty of Blacks, Latinos and Asians also attend Stanford..

Brook and Robin Lopez are mixed raced.... Cuban and White.. Hence the whole Lopez thing.

They might have a shot at the playoffs if he doesn't take him too long to get back in the swing of things.

Griffin=Tyrus Thomas

Tyrus Thomas > Griffin

Thomas is much more athletic.

I called a bust when before he even entered. We really need to get over all the media hype and look at the VAST difference between college ball and the NBA. Just look at the last 4-6 years and all the busts that have surfaced who were deemed the "next big thing".

He plays with Heart, so even if he is a bust he'll be better than Kwame Brown.
