What was the highest ranking Steve Nash ever was in any given year in the NBA?

Like was he considered the Best Player in any Year? Was he considered Top 2 any year? Top 3? Top 5? Top 7? Top 10? Top 12?

Basically Steve Nash at his best where did he rank in the NBA overall?

Well wasn't he the "best player" during his time of winning MVP?

Top 5 06-07, the year Dirk won MVP

Top 5 was his highest ranking.

top three for me. one of the best all around at his position, in terms of dishing the ball and shooting when needed (not necessarily in defense).
He wasnt the best basketball player, but he was up there..

It's an interesting question because if you cleared the rosters of the NBA, I don't think there is any year that he would be the first guy you'd pick. I picked top 3 without really thinking but it's probably more like top 7-10. Duncan/Kobe/Wade/Dirk/KG all probably ahead of him convincingly during his "peak." Then throw in guys like Shaq (who should have won his MVP in 2004) and LeBron it gets interesting. I'd probably take Chauncey too but that's me.

Honestly, he's just overrated now. I haven't seen him play much this year but everytime I do see him he just drives and dishes it out.

How is that over rated?

He's just playing to his strengths. Doesn't make him over rated.

I guess Kobe is over rated when he scores 50. Or Lebron is over rated when he gets his triple doubles.

Best offensive PG I've ever seen besides Magic (Yes, better than Stockton, Zeke, Kidd etc.). When he won his 2 MVPs, at the time I didn't think he deserved them...but in hindsight, he definitely did. Don't know if he was ever the best (even if the MVPs were deserving, that doesn't make you the best), but he was definitely top 2-3 for a few years...even without amazing defense.

Wasn't he considered the top player in the league when he won two consecutive M.V.P awards?

And, you know, shoots above 50% (54% this year, insane), and is only a career 43% three point shooter.

You should facepalm yourself. Worst analysis of a player I've ever seen.

There's a difference between having a great season and being the best player. You both would have taken him ahead of Duncan/Kobe/KG in 2004-2005?

Top 5. His defense brought him down. Kobe and even Bron have always been better than him.

His MVP years:
Kobe
Bron
Dirk
I guess he could be 4 because I honestly don't remember how Wade played back then.

Love how much of a struggle it is for Lakers fans to complement LeBron.

in his best years (MVP season), i'd pick him first as 1st PG but overall probably top 5, number one PG.

fact: only one other player had a season of 50/40/90, meaning at least 50% shooting, 40% 3-point, and 90% free throw, and that is the legendary Larry Bird, Nash did it twice and he's on course for a third. Overall, not the best player but probably the best overall shooter in history, if you consider the facts. Most of his shots are not catch and shoot situations, that's why in his best years i'd say he's number 1 PG (esp if you factor in his assists), but because of his defense, he's only top 5.

lol. my bad. i herad it on Tv the other day. guess i should not trust those darn announcers huh?

so i did some research,

here's what i found: from Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic

"You probably heard that Steve Nash became the first player in NBA history to finish four seasons with shooting percentages of at least 50 on field goals, 40 on 3-pointers and 90 on free throws.

But did you know he would have twice as many 50-40-90 seasons as Larry Bird now if not for his 89.9 percent free throw shooting? Did you know he now has five consecutive seasons of at least 50 percent shooting and 43 percent 3-point shooting? "

LArry Bird did it twice

Also found out that reggie miller, jose calderon and mark price did it once in their careers, again my bad and apologies to fans of miller, calderon and price

please feel free to correct me if you find out otherwise

never liked nash but always had to respect him. defense is a knock but in all honesty, how many players can shut down anybody anymore? in truth most players either consistantly play one end or another. to ask anyone to play 40 minutes full out on both ends is like saying sprint for 40 minutes...aint gonna happen.

regardless, i would always take kobe, duncan, kg over him any of those years. then you have the tweeners in shaq, dirk, wade, bron, i kno im missing a few others but in short he could be anywhere from 4-10 depending on your need/want

Top 7 to me. He was ridiculous in 2002-3, and also 05-06, but he never played the defense of a top 5 player IMO.

i'd like to see a poll option that had a 13-20 option. he is a great offensive player but a liability 50% of the time on the court thus i would say 13-20.

So a guy who wins MVP is not even top 10 in the league?

i know. it's hard to imagine voters overvalueing offense in the handing out of a major sports award. no precedent there....

its an waard for the most valuable player, the player who contributed most to the betterment of the team, in his 2 MVP's Nash clearly carried the team in the regular season (MVP of the finals is a totally different story).

an MVP is not necessarily the best player in the league
