View Full Version : Only 5 Teams in the Eastern Conference Have Winning Records

Only 5 out of the 15 teams in the Eastern Conference have winning records, what is up with that? During the offseason, the general consensus around the forums was that the East got significantly better, but yet, nearly half of the Eastern Conference playoff teams have losing records. Will things improve for the East, or will this be a rare occasion where multiple teams get into the playoffs with a losing record?

Even at the beginning of the season I had thought the East was now as good as the West, but that's obviously changed. Teams that many thought would have winning records aren't showing it so far; namely Chicago, Toronto, and Washington.

I think the Eastern teams are a lot more dependent on 2010 and the Western teams are in it for now.

3 out of the top 4 teams are East teams though.

But some teams are just struggling. Miami, Toronto, and Washington have too much talent to be under .500 or barely above it.

I am pretty surprised by this too. I definitely thought the East would be better this year.

But I can't lie looking at this as a Raptors fan I am happy that the Raptors have an opportunity to turn around their disappointing start to the season and still make the playoffs.

There are only so many wins to go around with the Big Three of the East. Also with the fact that all the 2010 players are in the East as well.

After Atlanta, the entire 5-8 seeding is a crapshoot with the many other teams in the east disappointing, namely my bulls, the raptors, the wiz, and the heat to an extent.

Hell, the Nets could still make the playoffs the way the East is stacked right now.

Too many good teams in the east, they all have to play eachother more so their records suffer........

East is more about parity instead of dominance so after top 4 the rest will duke it out, imo that's fun basketball too watch since anyone can make it

The easy is too star centric as opposed to the west.

Don't get me wrong, the teams out West have stars but they surround their stars with fits where as the East surrounds their stars with names to get some ESPN mention and year after year it bites the lower half in the ***.

and the 5th .500+ team - Miami - was a buzzer beater away from losing to the Nets, which would have made them 12-13.

crazy.

How about they were a buzzer beater (luckiest shot in kobe's career) away being a 14-11????

Yeah, some teams are struggling. By years end, i expect Toronto and possibly charlotte to have winning records. But still thats only 7 teams.

I guess you can say its teams adjusting to the moves made in the off season?
I don't know, maybe cause the west was so much better for so long that you have to go through this period where any team can beat any team as some become relevant and others do not.

yet in the West there are atleast 4 or 5 teams that have to battle (and are going to be over 500 when its all said and done) just to get the 8th seed

cmon now

this was exactly my point when ppl in the 6ers forum say they need to blow the team up. the hawks have been an average squad with, overall, the same team and look how they emerged this year. just because these mediocre teams dont have the superstar tandems on their team, (celtics: kg, ray, paul, sheed, cavs: bron, shaq, z, heat: wade, oneal, beasley) doesnt mean these teams have to be blown up!!!!!!

The East did get better, just not from top to bottom. The east houses 4 of the 5 best teams in the league (LAL, Bos, Cle, Orl, Atl). But after those 4 there is a serious drop off.

I do like the idea though of pretty much every team having a shot at the playoffs in the East. It makes the season more exciting and unpredictable.

What a shock, Knicks actually have a shot of making the playoff; just half game back off 8th spot in the East.

NBA needs to modify the playoff format to address this unbalance that has been going on for years instead of waiting it out.

Haha thats pretty funny, but the east does stink. Still 4 of those teams are legit title contenders.

haha, this logic doesn't pan out if the inter-conference records show west teams over .500.

I never thought that the East had significantly improved top to bottom. And frankly, I don't think even the best teams in the East would have the records that they have if they were moved to the West.
