Calderon has 4 years, 37 million left.
Kirilenko and Z-Bo have some bad ones too.

It's gotta be a player getting paid way too much money and who isn't an expiring/has a few years on it left. It used to be Jerome James but he is now an expiring contract.

Arenas is easily #1 IMO but I wouldn't put Iguodala in the top 5. If this were 2006, there would probably be 4 Knicks players in the top 5. I'm glad times have changed.

You gotta give it up for Z-Bo. He's putting up impressive numbers. Averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds. Calderon has potential, but I don't think he's worth that much. Kirilenko was given that contract when he was getting out of his prime. The Jazz's GM has another bad contract on his hands with Paul Millsap. Hes getting paid just over 9 million for the next four years. That's starters salary!

Chandler's isn't bad at all right now, I believe he expires after this year or next year.

Arenas is just coming back from an injury and rounding into form (note the 43 pt game)... no one wouldve argued with his contract when he was healthy 2 years ago so i think people need to wait to judge him

Obviously AK47 has the worst contract in the league

Deng, Oak and Iggy are worth the money they are getting, in today's NBA at any rate. The fact that each are making more money in one contract than Bird and Magic earned in their entire careers is sad, but that's inflation for you. Deng scores around in the high teens and grabs 8 or 9 boards, so that's more than a lot of guys get. Oak is a soldi palyer he's just always playing out of position. If he played power forward he'd be a better player. and AI 2.0 is great, one of the better shooting guards in the league. His contract is good.

Your #1 and #2 are spot on though! T-Mac's would be up there too, and Jermaine O'Neal's if they weren't expiring this year.

anyone who has iguodala on this list but not michael redd simply doesnt know enough about basketball. Also since dan gadzuric is the worst player in the nba and he makes about 7 mil a season, id say his is one of the worst.

mine (in no order)

Rashard Lewis: 6 years/118 mil?? He's good but nowhere near that good
Andrei Kirilenko: 16.5 mil this year for a bench player
Gilbert Arenas: he actually took a paycut
Michael Redd: too one-dimensional and injury-prone
DeSagana Diop: 6 mil for zero points and .1 rebound.. brilliant. His contract won't expire until 2014. At least Eddie Curry has talent

JO and T-Mac don't deserve the money they are earning but their contracts aren't bad bc they are expiring. They actually have decent value. Bad contracts are long hefty ones that no team would trade for

I dont argue that his contract sucks but its actually a year and a half now, so its bad but not that bad IMO.

For me to say a player has a bad contract i think it needs to be for 2 yrs past this one, because next year its not that bad because its an expiring.

Lewis, easy. And I simply say that in the following context: Sure, the Magic don't care about salary cap obviously, but take that away, and with Dwight, the Magic will have 2 players eating around 75-80% of all salary cap space in 3 years. If this was a normal team that paid within the limits, it would totally cripple a team
The only saving grace is the Magic can afford an $85 million payroll. But the deal is still terrible for a guy who gives you 20 ppg, and nothing else

Redd has a 18.3-mil player option and in no way in hell would he opt out, especially after another disappointing injury-plagued season. No one will pay a 30-year-old injury-prone one-dimensional player more than 10 per year

Kenyon Martin

It's interesting to me that K-Mart's name didn't even come up until the 2nd page, and that he's only gotten one mention per page more or less. There was a time, and it was not very long ago, when his name definitely would have been in the top post, in just about every post, right at the top of everyone's list.

What changed?

I mean, his contract, as originally drafted, really was terrible - and pretty much, it still is. There's no way he's a $16/17 million caliber player. I guess the two factors that have dropped him out of most fans' "top 5 worst contracts" list are:

1) that he has now proven to have successfully come back from double microfracture surgery to play at close to the same level he was at with the Nets, and that his value to the Nuggets has proven indispensable as their defensive captain (in the 4 games he missed due to injury this season - well, one he played just 12 worthless minutes - the Nuggets are 0-4). So while there's still a big disparity between his real value and what he's getting paid, it's not nearly as big as when he was missing whole and half seasons because of his bum knees.

2) That it expires in 2011, which means that next season his "bad contract" just might turn into a pretty attractive trade piece as a great defensive big man with a valuable expiring.

---------

Anyways, all of the above is just my reaction to scrolling through this thread thinking "Where's K-Mart? Where's K-Mart?" and being surprised that his name has largely disappeared from this discussion.

Thats just what happens when Dwight Howard plays in front of you. He prolly would have been a starter on the Mavs contributing much more than he is now on the Magic on the exact same contract.

Who pays $7 million for 13 minutes? It's not smart business. Then again Rashard Lewis got overpaid and the Magic are one of the best teams in the NBA. So what do I know? lol. I do think Rashard earns his money though while Gortat does not. If you planned on playing him in tandem with D12 sometimes maybe...
