I currently live in South Florida so I know the Economy is pretty bad. I mentioned the same thing in the Heat game thread yesterday and One of the guys thought I was taking a jab at the heat or something. Like you said though, I'm surprised that the seats aren't filling up, The love for Wade down here is crazy.

jimbobjarree

saying their are alot of hispanic people in miami is more fact than racism :pity:

wow, politically correctness is such a *****

seriously, dunno, they have such good weather and beaches outside, why would you want to pay to go inside. Also the Phins are playing some good stuff, and its close to christmas so I bet all teams are suffering slightly.

I highly doubt it is the economy, I just think the fanbase in Miami is a poor one to be honest. Even when the Marlins have pretty good teams and are contending, they always have horrific attendance. It's gotta be something to do with the people.

Part of me wants Wade to go to Chicago just to play in front of an audience that will support him even if he aint winning.

jimbobjarree
12-14-2009, 03:51 PM
but wouldnt that be more lack of fans than bad fans?

There was pleanty of fans when they were winning so I doubt is the lack of fans.

Maybe most of them jumped off the banwagon

But when the economy was just fine and no one was showing up to watch a pretty good Marlins ball club.

jimbobjarree
12-14-2009, 03:56 PM
well they saw the harsh truth when Wade was out the other year, they're just a lottery team with a superstar, and a bad lotto team at that. I think Wade has realised it too now. He has never embraced Beasley as his sidekick for now and the future, at least not nationally that I know of anyway, and the Heat's struggles and lack of fans just spice up the 2010 FA that little bit more. I wonder how different things would have been in Miami if they had gotten Odom and Boozer this summer.

Nobody goes to Marlins' games because no one likes them down here. People were actually happy when there were rumors of them leaving to San Antonio, Las Vegas, etc.

Though many people love Dwade and HEAT basketball down here, but a lot as to do with the economy. I can't even go to as many HEAT games as I use to becasuse the tickets are way to expensive.

You guys have to remember there is A LOT to do down here in South Florida. There are beaches, malls, etc.

Not everybody wants to spend the little money they have on sport games.

Maybe it's because they're not contenders anymore, I mean look at the roster, it's terrible! Fans want to see more than Dwyane Wade. Who the hell wants to see Chris Quinn, Daequan Cook, or Dorell Wright? Nobody really. They'll get more seats next year since Wade will have Bird's Right

pacofunk64
12-14-2009, 05:01 PM
Miami is not a sports town. That's it, it's too nice to go watch the games unless it's playoff time. NBA basketball is boring but can be very exciting come playoffs.

TheDetroitBlue
12-14-2009, 05:03 PM
Detroit teams in general are the ones being affected by the economy

JasonJohnHorn
12-14-2009, 05:04 PM
I can imagine there are a few reasons. There may be a few less people due to the economy, but Miami is a city with a lot of money and $100 000 cars (everybody's got 'em). There are also lots of sports in Florida to watch, so its not like Portland or Utah where the NBA is the only option. There are lots of great college teams, not to mention football and baseball teams, so sports fans have to spread the love a little bit, plus Orlando is in close proximity. Then there is the fact that the team, while playing fairly good ball, just isn't that good to watch. The will make the playoffs, but its pretty clear from how they played so far this year, and what they did last year, that they won't be making a run at a title so fans may not be as eager to make the drive and plop fifty bucks down for tickets to a team that isn't contending.

D-Will4Prez
12-14-2009, 05:15 PM
Haha at least Miami is doing better than Atlanta as far as fans are concerned...all the games I've seen of them on tv the arena is only half filled and I swear I have not seen a single Hawks fan here on PSD >.>

Both talented and exciting...

Quinn DIawara and Anthony on the other hand

Like I said in other threads, the economy is ****.

I'm making 300ish a week on a good weak (part time). I have 400$+ to spend on car, gas, insurance. Another 400ish on food. then there's housing.

just an example.

nobody wants to spend 30 on parking, 30 on food and 100+/ticket (lower bowl as the upper sections get filled to the max) to watch a product that really isn't THAT exciting and that they know will be a middleseed.

ElMarroAfamado

i dont think its the economy because for as long as i can remember everytime i watch a HEAT game the seats are totally empty (even when Shaq was with the team)

i think the only time they filled up the seats or it didnt look completely empty was during the finals

arkanian215
12-14-2009, 08:28 PM
a lot of people in miami and the area in general depended on the housing bubble for money. so it's partly the recession.

nipo10847
12-14-2009, 08:29 PM
man!!! PSD does have some Miami Heat haters. Not mentioning the ****ed up economy they are now saying Miami is not a sport city, this and that!! Like I said u guys will keep sucking ur own **** next year.

Its part economy and part bandwagon hopping fans. Its pretty annoying how fans are down here because they are the biggest bandwagon hopping fans in the planet. When the Heat were contenders we were always sold out. When the Marlins made it to the playoffs every seat in the stadium was filled (and i'm talking about like 60,000 for baseball). When we are good every seat is filled, when were bad it's empty plain and simple. The only exception are the Dolphins, but that's because football is a fan favorite and the Dolphins have a great history and the fans of the 80s-90s still come to games. Which is prolly another reason why no one shows up for the Heat and Marlins, their very young franchise and the city still hasn't fallen in love with them like the Dolphins.

Florida Marlins are worse. I went to a game when dodgers were in town, there were more LA fans than Marlins.

I think eventually these bandwagon hopping fans will fade further down the road.
