Game is alot faster pace. They have alot more weight to carry. Also since the league has gotten slightly smaller, the big men have to move that much more on defense. ALso big guys have a harder time getting the cardio up......being tired = higher chance of injury.

The problem with players who are too athletic or too "top heavy" is that their legs dont hold up. Most of the time its the knees that dont hold up, but sometimes its the foot.

Injuries came when Zones and charging became legal.

Now guys are able to slip underneath them to draw offensive fouls thanks to charging rules, and the zone allows their space to be crowded which makes landing sketchy for most guards, let alone bigs.

Some of these guys just have bad luck. I mean look at the list, half of the poor guys have "landed awkwardly" or sustained the injury while not even moving.

There overgrown humans. When you play in the most competitive league on the planet 82 times a year, that's demanding alot from your body, especially when your body is much larger, you always see big guys with leg problems because of all that weight they have to carry around, add that into running and jumping full speed your bound to breakdown eventually. For these big guys all it takes is one little fall to really hurt themselves.

But it is that much easier to bust a knee or something from "landing awkwardly" when you are 260 pounds.

I think that this is alittle mis-leading, when you think about b/c more guards & forwards get hurt more than big man evey yr . But I think its a combo of a few things

The pounding that the NBA allows big man to take b/c they are big, evenutally it takes it's toll. Look the majority of the guys you named got there injury from either someone landing on their knee or foot, guard missed the ball & got hit in the eye. etc. When your job is to protect the paint & time & time again someone comes at you full speed & there contact eventually your going to get hurt, especially now w/ the size & speed of the typical NBA guard.
