The Tigers' signing of Adam Everett could point the Pirates toward another free-agent shortstop Bobby Crosby.

The Pirates, apparently dissastisfied with Ronny Cedeno, have pursued both players, and their pursuit of Crosby likely will intensify now that Everett is off the board.

Crosby, 29, appeared in only 97 games with the A's last season, batting .223 with a .295 on-base percentage and .357 slugging percentage.

The Rockies also have shown interest in him. -- Ken Rosenthalhttp://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/10475170

Pretty cheap indeed. And the Bucs will get him, too, because theyre the only ones wholl let him start. If this guy doesnt stink then I dont know what stink means.

well we needed a backup shortstop, I was hoping Bixler wasnt given the job. Looks like he can also serve as a backup for the entire infield. Good signing, nothing special but it fills a hole.

Pirates dont like Cedeno. Crosby will probably start. Another crap signing. At least Randa had been good once.

It's almost official

The Pirates' signing of free-agent shortstop Bobby Crosby, which will be made official as early as tomorrow pending the physical, will be for one year at a guaranteed $1 million plus as much as $500,000 in bonuses based on plate appearances.

Positives: Decent pop, versitle in the IF.

Negatives: Poor eye, injury prone, range declining.

Ideally he should not start for any team, but he may in Pitt if Cedeno lays an egg is spring again.

Neil traded away one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball for cedeno who isn't even major league talent and who will get a raise in arbitration despite his lack of production in both defense and offense. Which Neil in his infinite wisdom overlooked. So Cosby who can beat out Cedeno in a fair competition anyways (but then again so can Bixler) was brought in as a cheaper alternative. Always remember no matter how poorly they play Huntington's signings will be given many opportunities to fail.

If healthy, I think he will outperform expectations. It's a low cost, medium reward signing. I was banking that he would have a bounce back season last year with us, but BB decided to sign Ocab.
Anyway, good luck on the season.
