CLEVELAND -- LeBron James flying high during All-Star weekend is no longer a slam dunk.

After saying at last year's event in Phoenix that he planned to dunk in the 2010 festivities in Dallas, James now says he's "50-50" about taking part.

James felt last year's contest was too "watered down" and his participation might revive the weekend's signature event.

"I'm like 50-50 right now," he said Wednesday night before a game against Phoenix. "I don't know if you can get it back to the 80s and like in '98 when Vince [Carter] was in it. It was more about the dunks and less about what was going on around the dunks. We'll see what happens."

So why has he changed his mind?

"I was excited," he said. "When I said it I was very excited about doing it. I was there at the event and you get caught up in it a little bit."

It's funny how all the people who are calling him a ***** for being 50/50 about doing it are probably the same people that moan "he only ever does one dunk"

I try really hard not to be too biased against James. I mean, he's considered awesome, the heir to MJ, blah blah blah. But ... other than his basketball abilities, there is just nothing to like about him! Now he doesn't want to be in the Slam dunk contest because he thinks its too watered down. He's starting to come off as a big snob. If the Dunk contest is too watered down, isn't your presence going to get it back to what it was?

Puss-e...

MJ,Dr. J and Kobe won it....If he wants to have the resume of being labeled with the greatest, he has to win a slam dunk contest like all the other greats did....Being a puss about it wont help the case.

That may be, I know I was pissed that Dwight simply won because he wore a superman costume and threw the ball in the hoop instead of slamming it home. However, that's when you go in and actually focus on dunking as opposed to the showman ship stuff. If Lebron is pissing and moaning that its not about the dunks, then he should step up and dunk the hell out of that competition!

I agree that the dunk contest is watered down but what is he worried about? He isn't very creative either. He's a power dunker but the judges will be on his sack regardless.

If LeBron want's to make a leap from superstar to one of the all-time greats he needs to win like 10 dunk contests, because he's not winning any championships soon.

He means because Maxiell rejected Shannon for the jam in the Lakers-Pistons game... it was his attempt at a cheap shot, a bit too subtle for some apparently.

After thinking about it, do you think you would be allowed to have a defender on you trying to swat it away in the contest? That would be sick IMO. Crazy if it works.

That actually seems like a good idea. But what if someone got posterized on purpose just to help the person get a better score.

Whoever would dunk on Dwight at his full jump (13 feet) would win best dunk of all-time.

Yeah, but what if the dunker keeps getting stuffed? Might as well have a blocking contest. IMO, it would be more impressive seeing a LeBron get blocked than him dunking nasty on someone.

It would be similar to Slam Ball(Basketball on Trampoline's) when they have foul "shots" or penalty shots or whatever.

It's a 1 vs 1. One dude tries to dunk, the other tries to block it. It would be cool, yet quite dangerous.

That's what got me thinking man. Slam Ball was so fun to watch. Do you know what happened to it?
