i was just looking at who ESPN thinks are the top 10 PG's of all time and i must say i dont agree with them. They have Gary Payton #10 on the list. im not trying to be a celtic hater but i think that anyone who played in the 40's to 50's wouldnt have done nearly as well against more modern players. That means i think Cousey is overrated. Gary was arguably the best defensive Pg ever(along with Frazier) as he was only PG ever to win Defensive player of the year. Cousey wasnt exactly known for his defense.

The reason GP's stats are low is because his last 4 seasons his wasnt the same player and his stats plummeted. If you only look at this first 13 seasons(which were all that most of the guys on the list played) GP easily has some of the best stats. comparable to even Magic. Nash(who shouldnt have won 2 MVP'S) plays no defense. About a tie between GP and Frazier.

i was surprised West didnt make the list

west is more of a shooting guard and played shooting guard alot of the time thats why he was able to score so many points. hes on the list of top shooting guards.

Why is this in the Lakers forum?

But yeah The Glove was awesome. I'd definately take him over Steve Nash, some of the others there I don't know an awful lot about.

With the loss of Seattle basketball Gary's career might just be forgotten over the next decade or so, which is a real shame.

Payton was a great player. He should've been on that list, for sure.

Gary Payton is the best PG to never win the title on his own. Yes, he won one with miami, but he was already a shadow of his former self by then. John Stockton is the close second.

Gary Payton screwed us out of Marcus Banks when he didn't report to Boston on time for training camp after we traded him for Mihm. I will never forget that and will never hold him in high regard. He screwed us on purpose as a parting shot from a disgruntled ex-player. F his arse!!!!!

I thought Boston just had a last minute change of heart, and pulled Banks out of the trade before it was finalised?

Either way, it probably helped us. Banks never really became what he was expected to be. Didn't rhe Suns went as far as to sign him just to keep him away from us? In retrospect, not the best move :p

Stockton >> GP

No disrespect to GP, but Stockton is top 3 all time.
