Oden definitely has the potential to make me regret pushing him down to 4th. Rose may make me eat my ranking, too. Both guys have major flashes of brilliance in their play sometimes, but this is a very competitive list and not everyone can be top 3.

The fact that Oden is second on the Blazers in win shares playing just 24 minutes a night while leading the team in PER is scary. Injuries are probably the only thing that can hold him back from climbing this list in the years to come.

Durant - no doubt about this one, he's just too good of an offensive player. - Current Star

Lopez - All around solid, if your looking for a big man he's your #1. - Future Star

Evans - Unstoppable driving to the basket and a Force on Defense. - Future Star

Rose - Proven to be a great all around point guard, if not for his slump this season I'd probably have him at #3.- Future Star

Jennings - If your looking for points, he's a safe bet. Efficiency, not so much. Possible Star, at least a high scoring fringe star.

Bynum - the Kind of player that is going to put up big numbers on nearly any team. Great option at C. I don't think he will ever cross over into true big man stardom though (Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudamire, Yao Ming). Current solid center, possible star, at least fringe star.

Mayo - Great option at SG. Can't really go wrong. - Possible star, safe bet in the scoring department.

Oden - Starting to turn out, but this is more of a "potential pick". - Possible Star

Westbrook - Good all around point guard, I don't thing he has crossed the line into "possible stardom" yet. That could be due to Kevin Durant stealing the spot light. We'll have to see. - Future solid PG, Possible Fringe Star.

Wall - He could be #1... but he could also fail miserably. Since this is based on what we know, he's my last choice.

brandon jennings is great, but he had like 5 good games. the past 3 games shot like 30% and it shows when defense focuses on him, he can't score efficiently.
i still like him though because he's capable of doing other things well.

but no way i'd start a franchise with brandon jennings over guys like durant, bynum, rose, oden. these 4 guys are special.

then you have jennings, westbrook, evans, mayo, lopez in the 2nd tier.

john wall doesn't deserve to be on this list.

I'm gonna seem like a homer here, but why is Bynum waaaaaay ahead of Lopez, let alone better than him. Bynum hasn't shown the ability to remain healthy (Laker fans will claim they were freak accidents, but healthy is healthy) and Lopez is in his 2nd year putting up similar numbers to Bynum on a far worse team. They went against eachother on Sunday; Lopez went 26 and 12 while Bynum went 8 and 6 (credit to him for having 5 blocks, but Lopez is 2nd in blocks per game). But...I'm probably just being a homer.

You are more likely to win a title building around a dominant big man than a great offensive wing player that struggles defensively.

I think Durant will improve defensively as his career progresses but that's far from a sure thing.

Durant - hands down the best player in the group. Probably the only superstar
Bynum - not many big men have the combination of skills and physical abilities
Rose - would have probably been second last year but he has slowed down a bit
Lopez - another solid big man
Mayo - Can put up big numbers
Jennings - it was either him or Mayo but i went with larger sample size
Oden - Not a big fan. I doubt he will ever develop offensively to warrant the 1st pick over Durant
Wall - don't know much about him but future looks bright for the kid

And why is this?

If you are worried about his defense, it is because of the team he plays on. He can guard any of the big guys in the league and his offensive game is one of the best for a big man.

When you have Kobe roaming around guarding whoever he pleases, Bynum and others are going to have to pick up different guys when they should be hanging around the paint trying to guard the rim.

Put him in a system like San Antonio and he would be a great defensive player.

You're not being a homer at all and you bring up good points. It's just that I see Bynum doing better than Lopez if their situations were swapped, slightly better I should say. And I should probably point out that the 0-17 glasses also had some weight into my decision... I'm just not a fan of good numbers on a bad team, like the Al Jefferson situation, etc.

wouldnt say that they are jus rookies we have to see more of them. be honest when Bynum came out did u believe he was going to play this good. U jus dont know with some players. Evans has all the tools to be a franchise player and could lead his team to a championship with the right players. Same with Jennings he has to get bigger think bout his shots more but him and Bogut down in Mil are a good starting point for a championship team if Bogut can stay healty jus need more of the right players on they're team. Bucks need a ALL-Star or Star SG OR SF to be on the right path to be consider a championship team.

Jennings reminds me a lot of Allen Iverson. He is amazingly gifted offensively and can play some D but his style of play is not one that is good for a team. Even if they get a solid big man or another guard, he needs the ball too much.

He would have to drastically change his style if he wants to win and I doubt that...especially when he has already had a lot of offensive success.

As for Evans, he can easily continue to get better but still...if I had to choice, I'm taking a good big man over a good guard any day of the week.

Bynum should be higher on most of your lists, he's averaging about 20 points a game and close to 10 boards a night. He also shoots close to .60pct from the field, blks shots and is one of the few really good "true" centers in the NBA. A lot of people are sleeping on Bynum, he can hoop.

im not counting john wall. he hasnt played but from what ive seen he's a monster

9- oj mayo- just a chucker. nothing else IMO
8- Rose- lack of offensive skill and even less defense
7- Westbrook- solid...very solid, but no real offense yet
6- Bynum- played very efficiently so far but is that him or because of his team?
5- brandon jennings. inconsistent. plays small against bigger guards and has a lot to learn. still his potential is thru the roof
4- durant- the man can score...anything else? until this year his team has played better without him. lets hope they continue to do well with him
3- Oden- cant stay out of foul trouble
2- brook- solid so far all around this year. absolute beast aside from winning(sucked so far against real defenses too)
1- tyreke- he's impressed me so far since martin has been injured. he is carrying that team and has size and ability. if he continues as a pg, i keep him here because he will hae no problems offensively nor defensively. if he changes positions, he drops to 3 or 4...

Westbrook - haven't seen much of him but I dont think he has a high ceiling
Evans - Again, haven't seen much of him

defense wins championships and considering his defensive game and rebounding, he trumps durant easily if healthy imo

Here's how Tyreke's stats in November compare to other stars' numbers in November:

Tyreke Evans: 20.3 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 5.1 APG
Dwyane Wade: 14.7 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 4.1 APG
LeBron James: 16.8 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 6.1 APG
Kobe Bryant: 5.4 PPG, 1.4 RPG, 0.5 APG
Allen Iverson: 21.8 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 6.4 APG

Every one of those guys except Kobe had an even better December their rookie year.

No he's saying there are a lot of wings that can score, but not a lot of big guys that can control the paint defensively. The Blazers already had their wing with Roy, that's why they went Oden, and they were right in doing so.

No they wern't. That Joel Prizbilla guy is almost as good as Oden. Durant and Roy play 2 different positions and would have been a nightmare for the other team with Aldridge.

Oden's PER per 48 minutes is 26, which is excellent. He's allowing a PER of 11.6, which is again excellent. He's shooting a great percentage at 63%. Pryzbilla on the otherhand...has not been nearly as effective this year, offensively or defensively. Not to say Pryz is a bad player, he isn't.

They would be better with Durant. They made the wrong choice, and they didn't tak Oden number 1 because of his D (that was part of it), but they thought he was going to dominate both ends, they thought they were getting a D12 type of player.

You clearly aren't paying attention. Watch a Blazers game. When Oden is in the game, he's dominant. He's getting doubled these days. And he's 21 and probably the third option on the team. He's got a decent offensive game and definitely has time to develop. Foul trouble is the only thing holding him back right now.

the thread is who would i draft knowing everything i did now...no way i would draft oden high, if i know hes injury prone

You drafted Bynum ahead of him and higher than better players. Oden has had 1 injury that happened to take a year away from him, but Bynum has had multiple injuries that have taken a majority of multiple seasons from him- where's your logic?
