View Full Version : Perfect Player to Complement Dirk Nowitzki

JordansBulls

Who is the Perfect Player to Compliment Dirk Nowitzki? Doesn't mean that Dirk has to be the Main Guy, but someone who fits with him on a team.

Example:

Would he function better with someone who would be the 2nd best on the team like Paul Pierce or someone who would be the best on the team in Chris Paul?

Jason Kidd does that and does it well. I'm gonna go with Dwight Howard. Dirk has always had a good scoring guard playing alongside him but never a dominant big man down low to take the load off his shoulders. D12 would be the perfect compliment.

I think Kobe Bryant or Carmelo Anthony would be fantastic fits. You'd have a big man and a wing player, but both are capable of posting up or going outside. Tremendous offensive versatility.

I read somewhere that LeBron was working on his post-up game over the summer as well, I don't know how succesful he's been with it though.

If you're going with a big guy I think you're better off with a big, tough defender. I love Pau, but both him and Dirk can get pushed around a bit.

I don't think he needs a pass first PG, it's not like he struggles to find offense. A guy who takes a lot of shots probably wouldn't be a bad fit, since it gives Dirk someone to share the scoring load with.

I still think Kobe Bryant or Carmelo Anthony would be great. They can both post up or go outside, as Dirk can - lots of offensive versatility.

No. A young Dirk had a young Nash. I think Steve has won a couple MVPs since then no? At one point Shaq and Kobe "never got anywhere" too.

Dirk has played alongside great point guards (J. Kidd, Steve Nash), great shooting gaurds (M. Finley and J. Stackhouse) and some quality small forwards like Josh Howard and Dirk has yet to win a title, which leads me to believe the one thing Dirk needs on the court with him more than anything is power house in the post. Dirk is a solid rebounder, but he isn't na agressive rebounder or an aggressive interior defender and the Mavs have always needed both!

Putting Dirk alongside Dwight Howard might not lock a title, but it would certainly be the best power forward/center combo in the league.

Dirk and Dwight would be hella crazy 4 and 5. Then build around that and you have an excellent chance of winning.

I think many of us are getting a little carried away. Of course playing with a dominant center like Dwight, Shaq, or even Duncan, will help everyone. But if you are already a "dominant" big man, you should be able to succeed with a great wing player, unless that is you happen to play the GOAT in the Finals( Stockton & Malone).

Dirk basically is a wing player, not a post player, so having a real center like Dwight Howard would be nice.

Also, if Steve Nash was in Dallas, they would be wrecking the league offensively.

I'm pretty sure that both Nowitzki and Nash played with each for 4-6 years. And I don't want to hear that they were "young" or not in their "prime". I can say what if Kobe and Shaq both played together in their prime?

Can you imagine Wade, Dirk, and Kidd on the same team? That is scary to think about because Wade and Dirk are one superstar away from competing for a championship. I think Dampier and Marion can be more comfortable being role players on that team also.

Dwight can perfectly compliment any player in the league, as can a good PG (Nash), so I chose Lebron.

Wade or LeBron to Dallas in the summer. it could happen via sign and trade and then we can see it. Either one would put the Mavs in the discussion of serious title threats. But i'll dream on...neither those guys have played with a talent that is Dirk and vice versa. would be lovely

agreed.

Dirk is best around the perimeter and midrange, his rebounding is medicore and his defense is below average. I think he would benefit being paired with a quality big man.

I disagree. Lebron is pretty ball dominant. To be a good compliment you must play well without the ball and not need it in your hands all the time to be productive.

I think Kobe would do well because he can play well in a set offense. Also Deron, Roy, etc.

LeBron is possibly the past passer in the league off the dribble, and Dirk is one of the best in the league at catching and shooting. A complement is something that fills up, or makes perfect, LeBron can complement Dirk while still being the one who controls the ball most, he maximizes Dirk's ability by letting him pick and choose his spots and getting him a ton of wide open 3 point and mid range jumpers.

Wade could come to Dallas as well if he wanted to. Much better chance of that, Dirk has no interest in leaving Dallas. At least there is a chance that Wade leaves Miami.

The least amount of salary the Mavs have on the books next summer is $44'986'580, and that's only if they don't bring back Dirk Nowitzki (player option) and Josh Howard (team option).

The Mavericks don't have to be under the cap. They actually are in a situation which is better than being under the cap. They have Dampiers instant expiring contract which can be used in a sign and trade and the other team can waive Dampier and not pay him a cent.

That's nice. I wouldn't mind seeing Wade in Dallas though.

A Dallas vs LA series would be insane if that happened.
