View Full Version : One player to build a team around

If you were to build your team around one player for the next 10 or so years, who would you choose and why???

P.S: Albert Pujols and Joe Mauer aren't choices

YankeeFan28
11-25-2009, 11:13 AM
Hanley Ramirez or Felix Hernandez

Rylinkus
11-25-2009, 11:23 AM
Didn't you have a very similar thread where Mauer and Pujols weren't options. Why aren't they options?

I'm building around Alex Gordon. Because he's probably related to Jeff Gordon. And I'd like a ride in his car.

I might go with Hanley over Pujols and Mauer anyways. I love Mauer but he's a catcher and I don't know for how long and Pujols is really 35 so I'll take HanRam.

I don't think that I had a thread like that??? But the reason they aren't options is because otherwise most people would pick Pujols or Mauer due to the fact that he's only 26 and isn't even at his prime

or Longoria or Utley or Howard or Hamels or Josh Johnson (ok that last one was homerish), but I just tried to open it up a little more

Adrian Gonzalez.... on any other team.... he's getting a lot of MVP votes. 2 consecutive gold gloves..... 3 straight seasons of over 30 HR's... 40 HR last season.... PLAYING IN PETCO PARK (imagine hime with half his games in philly, or new york, fenway, etc.).... build a lineup around adrian gonzalez. he hasn't had one yet, and has put up monster numbers every year.

Hanley Ramirez without question. A great, young, healthy player that can consistently hit over .300 and put up around 25 HRs a year.

Hanley Ramirez

He plays the most important position IMO, hits for 300 while hitting for power, steals bases, solid fielder, and young as well as plays everynight. A pitcher would be a waste since they only play every 4-5 days.

Pitcher wise? I'd build around a guy who's going to be a horse for me. Someone like Sabathia who's going to take the ball whenever he needs to.

Tim Lincecum has a very good fastball around 94-95 topping in at 96-97 and a change up that will make hitters look like little leaguers, his change up makes his fastballs look even faster than they actually are, i believe there was an article somewhere saying Tim Lincecum's Change-up is the best pitch in baseball right now, Timmy has no injury problems either....i know wakefield is a joke, im just saying though...

SS is the most important position in the infield yes... But CF is the most important... and a player that does all that you said and is just 25 is Matt Kemp... If he could cut down his strike outs he would put up even better numbers than he already has...

Not even Close to what Matt Kemp does... And Kemp is 25 years old... Those are all Great CF But not what you would build your team around...

Aside from Beltran I disagree.
Hamilton is often injured, has an addiction problem, and has been great for 1/2? a season.
Hunter is not the 2001 rendition.
And Sizemore seems to be the most overrated CFer in the game.
Matt Kemp is a better choice than any of them, especially going forward.
