Yeah yeah, I know about Ron Artest and Shane Battier. However, I don't have time to tune in all across the league, night in and night out. I'm looking for those underappreciated defensive players. Players that are perdominantly knowns for there defense and never get enough national credit. Of course people will say KG, Kobe, etc. but all of those guys were 1st all-nba defensive team. I'm looking for guys I'm missing out of the conversation. Any ideas let me know, I want to hear them .

Oden has been phenomenal from what I've seen.

Noah

That's what I was thinking. You really think his defense is that noticeable to other teams around the league?

Greg Oden hands down. He has four below average defenders on the floor with him (two of them defending out of position) and the Blazers still hold opponents to 87ppg (lowest in the NBA.)

I think Noah has been doing a hell of a job so far this year.

Andris Biedrins... yeah sure he is on the worst defensive team in NBA, but his impact is HUGE.

luc richard mbah a moute is our best defender and one of the best defenders in the NBA and part of the reason why the bucks have a really good defense. he doesn't get a lot of credit but for a second year player, he's a great defender.

Well for Charlotte it's Larry Brown.

Noah is great defensively... but um, Josh Smith, so far is separating himself from everyone else for defensive player of the year... look at his steals and blocked shots if you don't believe me. There is no one even close to Josh Smith right now.

Josh Smith is the best help defender in the NBA, but he should never win DPOY because he is only an average man to man defender. He really is an athletic freak who always gambles for blocks and steals. I'd take a player who doesn't gamble and locks down his man over Josh Smith any day of the week.

There's a reason that the "lock for DPOY" cannot make his team Top-5 defensively. It's because while Smith's highlights are incredible, that is all he is. He does not play consistent defense but has several dazzling highlights.

Noah, Thabo, Dahntay Jones, Mayo's better than you'd think, Pietrus, and maybe Deng are some of the guys I think don't get enough credit. There are several others that are as good or better but they typically get their respect.

Deng has been incredible defensively this year and your right Mayo is very underrated for his D.
