Hernandez is off to an amazing start this year, both offensively and defensively. He brings great leadership as well.

He's got a .378 OBP and a .900 OPS. He's got 8 HRs and leads the O's with 36 RBI.

Defensively, he's leading the MLB is CS% by throwing out 56.7% of the guys who have run on him.

He's been such an amazing pickup so far this year, and it's a shame that other teams have missed out on him.

this year i would have to disagree, the best catcher would have to be either Joe Mauer or Jason Varitek

Ramon's numbers have gone south....323 OBP, .262 BA. 15 homers is nice though.

Here are the real candidates to me:

Michael Barrett:

.332 BA, 13 HR's, .391 OBP

Joe Mauer:

.367 BA, 8 HR, .439 OBP

Brian McCan:

.338 BA, 12 HR's, .394 OBP

I think he has been traded. I was dissapointed by the trade as I've been following him since his days with the San Diego Padres. The rap on him when the O's traded him was his physical conditioning (weight gain I guess) and slow to react behind the plate. Whatever the case, I wish him well with his new team. I really like the guy.

I wish the Cubbies would have kept Barret but with the bad blood between him and "Z" ......
