How would you rank the last 10 World Series?
Mine:
1. 2001: D-Backs over Yankees (Luis Gonzalez's walk off hit in game 7 against Mariano Rivera)
2. 2002: Angels over Giants (Angels epic comeback in game 6)
3. 2000: Yankees over Mets (Subway Series)
4. 2003: Markins over Yankees (Litte Marlins over the mighty Yankees in 7)
5. 2004: Red Sox over Cardinals (Red Sox first WS title in 84 years?)
6. 2009: Yankees over Phillies (Eh)
7. 2006: Cardinals over Tigers (Eh again)
8. 2007: Red Sox over Rockies (Would have been better if the Rockies won)
9. 2008: Phillies over Rays (Ehhh)
10. 2005: White Sox over Astros (Just boring)

I guess I agree with that list.

Even though I'm a Yankee fan, the 2001 WS was by far the best I have ever seen.

05 and 08 were great IMO. Both were exciting for how short they were. I never saw a more exciting sweep than the Sox vs. Astros. The worst IMO were 00, 04, 06, and 07, with 06 being the worst.

although we lost, 2001 was a great series...........

-Red Sox first in 86 years, not 84.
-Marlins won in 6, not 7.

1. 2001 - D-Backs vs. Yanks
2. 2002 - Giants vs. Angels
3. 2003 - Marlins vs. Yankees

All others just kind of fall into place.

I agree with Tragedy list. Even though my team lost in 2001. That was one hell of a exciting World Series a lot of emotion in that one. Also in 2002. I put 2009 after 2003 because, all other series were really not competitive...

My team one two World Series and been to two. I got to enjoy a couple more World Series than anybody that is not a Yankee fan.

1. 2001: One of the best game 7's ever
2. 2002: Epic comeback by the Angels and choke job by the Giants
3. 2003: My personal favorite
4. 2004: It was a sweep, but had a hell of a backstory
5. 2009: first series to go past 5 games since 2003
6. 2000: Nothing really stands out except that it was two New York Teams
7. 2008: This could have been good had the cinderella team won
8. 2006: I can't think of anything that stands out here
9. 2007: Again, would have been good if the cinderealla team won
10. 2005: The most boring World Series I have ever witnessed

05 and 08 were GREAT? Great = 2001, 2002. 05 and 08 were boring. I understand the emotion you felt in 2008 for your team winning, just like the emotion I felt for my team winning in 2004 and again in 2007. But neither 2004 nor 2007 are "great" because they were 8 games in total and we just beat up the other team. 2005 and 2008 went a total of 9 games - One win from the Rays. There wasn't a hell of a lot of excitement in either of those.

Most would also agree that 05 was one of the most uninteresting World Series in recent memory - One of the many reasons it was among (maybe THE, I forget) the lowest rated World Series ever.

Very cool idea.

2004- Huge win for the Sox... break the curse, came back against the Yankees down 0-3 in the ALCS... one of the greatest world series in history IMO. No homer :)
2001- Luis Gonzalez hits a walk off hit against the greatest closer in history, which starts one of the longest stints in Yankee history without a WS win.
2002- Angels electric offense going against the unstoppable Barry Bonds, as well as Dusty Baker's kid almost getting annihilated at home plate. Edit: not to mention the Rally MONKEY! haha
2003- Marlins surprising year to make it to the WS with ace Josh Beckett to beat the heavy overdog Yankees, not to mention the NLCS (Steve Bartman)
2007- Red Sox beat the Rockies, who ended the regular season SO strong and seemed unbeatable
2000- Yankees beat the mets, and Clemens attempts to beat Mike Piazza with his broken bat. Unforgettable
2006- Unbelievable power in the Tiger's bullpen... they would have won that series if it weren't for Guitar Hero :)
2009- The outta NOWHERE Rays decide to show up and be a contender in the AL East, make the playoffs easily, beat the Sox in the ALCS, but couldn't do much against the Phillies. Good World Series though
2009- Yankees beat the Phillies to win their first World Series since 2000. Solid World Series by the favorites to win it. A lot of drama overall.
2005- This one was just boring overall to me, as well as any non Astro's/White Sox fans. The NLCS was the best series that year, with Pujols' homerun off of Lidge and the incredible defense by Jim Edmonds against the Astro's with Carlos Beltran absolutely tearing the cover off the ball.

That was fun :)

Really?

Game 1: Clemens vs Contreras, 5-3 victory for the Sox

Game 2: Going into the 9th, Astros are down 6-4, but tie it up in the 9th with 2 runs off Bobby Jenks. Lidge then gives up a walkoff to Scott Podsednik of all people in the bottom half.

Game 3: 14 inning classic ending with Mark Buehrle coming in to get the save!

Game 4: A classic 1-0 pitchers duel where the only run was scored in the top of the 8th.

The individual games were good, but overall, this just was not a World Series I was very interested in. I don't know why, I just wasn't. Every other world series gave me something to be interested in... the NLCS was much more interesting to me that year.

+1

I hated the Yanks/Mets in 2000, up until Clemens intentionally tried to take Piazza's head off, it made it interesting after head hunting wasn't deemed illegal in the United States of America!

The 2007 World Series was the lowest rated. I forget where I saw it but someone posted it last year during this time.

Sorry if the 2005 Chicago White Sox domination was boring for you, but us White Sox fans it was the first in 88 years. With the sweep of the Red Sox, One lose to the Angels and the sweep of the Astros.

Just looked it up, and 2005 was the lowest rated World Series, until it was broken in 2007 by the Sox/Rockies, and then broken again by the Rays/Phillies.

And what do all of these have in common with one another? Simply put, no one outside of their respective fan bases cared about those World Series. EVERYONE cared about 2001, 2003, 2003, and even 2009.

To me 2001 is a clear number 1 and 2002 is a clear number 2, beyond that none strike me as much out of the ordinary. If I had to rank them...

1. 2001: You can not beat the drama that series gave, as it went on it just seemed like the series that kept giving.
2. 2002: Huge comeback, great series
3. 2003: Solid series actually, Marlins feel behind early and got a huge momentum swing after Gon*ale* hit the HR.
4. 2000: Purely for the Clemens vs. Pia**a
5. 2005: One of the more exciting sweeps, but then again it was a sweep.
6. 2004: In symbolism it was a huge series, but in the series itself the Cardinals looked sloopy and out of place the whole series.
7. 2009: at least we got to a Game 6...
8.-10. 2006, 2007, 2008: all rank about the same to me since I hardly remember any of them. all very boring series.

1. 2008: Phillies over Rays. Sorry, nothing compares to seeing my favorite team of all time win a title.
2. 2001: Diamondbacks over Yankees. I hated the Yankees as a kid and I LOVED seeing them blow it in Game 7. Plus this was just a great Series.
3. 2009: Yankees over Phillies. Good series, although if I had no rooting interest it probably wouldn't have been particularly intriguing.
4. 2002: Angels over Giants. Didn't care about the result, but great games.
5. 2004: Red Sox over Cardinals. I was happy to see the Sox finally win one, but the series itself sucked. Nothing could have followed the ALCS.
6. 2005: White Sox over Astros. Yeah, it was a sweep, but the games were compelling and close. I just didn't give a **** about either team.
7. 2007: Red Sox over Rockies. It was nice to see the Rockies get steamrolled after sweeping my Phillies in our long-awaited return to the posteason.
8. 2000: Yankees over Mets. I literally remember absolutely nothing about this series.
9. 2003: Marlins over Yankees. Really wanted Sox-Cubs that year. Hated both teams, and I was going to be pissed no matter who won.
10. 2006: Cardinals over Tigers. Just awful. It's real fun to watch a team that won fewer games than your playoff-starved team in the regular season luck their way into a title.

Dead-last = 2006 with 2005 a close second.

1. 2001: D-Backs over Yankees- Luis Gonzalez's epic walkoff hit vs Mariano is one of the best moments in the history of baseball....game 7 WS walkoff...can't really top that. Plus this was more than just a World Series...it was an escape for all citizens of the US who had just went through the biggest tragedy this country has seen and just the symbol of having Bush throw out the first pitch in New York was something that hits people right in the heart. Perhaps one of the most important World Series ever.

2. 2002: Angels over Giants- great comeback by the Angels...little bit of humor with the whole Dusty Baker's son thing...overall a very competitive series between two teams that aren't as hyped as let's say the Yanks.

3. 2003: Marlins over Yankees- I went against my homer ambitions to put this number 1, but either way it was a great series and involved a huge underdog overcoming the powerhouse Yankees who had just come off one of the best ALCS in recent memory, Alex Gonzalez's HR was a great moment, along with the atmosphere of what was thought to be Clemens' last game out...and the emergence of Josh Beckett.

4. 2000: Yankees over Mets- entertaining from all of the hype entering the series although it didn't play out the way everyone wanted (as in a more competitive series) but the whole tension between Clemens and Piazza was just one of those things that people will remember for years to come.

5. 2004: Red Sox over Cardinals- Reverse the Curse!! This year was better known for the series before involving the best comeback in the history of baseball...and the momentum was just WAY too strong for the Cards to handle...very anticlimatic ending.

No offense to anyone but the other World Series just weren't entertaing...hell that 2004 World Series would've sucked if the whole Curse of the Bambino wasn't surrounding it....all the other ones just weren't as competitive, even this one...cuz although it went 6 games, the Yankees dominated after Game 1, even when the Phils won Game 5 the Yanks were on the verge of making a huge comeback and the momentum was pretty much in their favor the entire series...

Really?

The 05 World Series is by far the best.

Game 1: Clemens vs. Contreras Really? 5-3 victory for the Sox

Game 2: Paul Konerko hits Grand Slam down 4-2 to take the lead 4-2. Astors tie it in the 9th. Brad Lidge then gives up the walkoff homerun. Which is the only walk off home run since then.

Game 3: Goes into the 14th inning. And then Ozzie makes the best move ever. Takes a player named Geoff Blum who hasnt played all season hits a game winning home run in the top of the 14th. Then Buehrle comes in for the save.

Game 4: Great pitchers duel. Willie Harris hits a double in the top of 9th with 2 outs. Then the World Series MVP hits a game winning hit to knock in Willie Harris.

If thats a boring World Series then i dont know whats a good world series.

Although I am a White Sox fan and would by proxy have 2005 at the top of the list, by your logic, 2005 has to be at least up with 2004 since it was the White Sox first title in 88 years... plus the individual game excitement made 2005 better than a lot of those.

If you're ranking objectively, then caring about the teams shouldn't matter, it should be based on how good the games were.
