Let's say they both left next summer. That means both guys would have played 7 years with their original franchise.

i think both would because neither organization has had players as great as lebron or wade...and they are both probably desperate to retire some numbers

wade of course, he lead the team to a ring.

Lebron probably he lead them to their first finals.

The Heat would certainly retire Wade's number since he lead them to their first championship and it seems they're willing to retire anyone's number.

I think the Heat would retire Wade's number, he brought them their first championship and has been an iconic player for them. Not sure if LeBron has done enough to warrant his number being retired.

Yep...they would also have the sport named after both of them!

Also, if LeBron leaves, it'll be just like when Shaq lefth the Magic so I don't think they would do it for him.

Well Shaq only played for the Magic in 1992-1993, 1993-1994, 1994-1995 and 1995-1996. He played 4 years for them. Lebron would have played 7 years for the Cavs.

keep in mind what lebron has done for the team financially too. He's brought so much money and exposure to the city of Cleveland and to the Cavaliers. Its not really his fault that they havent won a ring either. Lets be honest the Cavs have had some pretty mediocre teams that lebron has lead.

No to either, you guys are crazy. You dont get your jersey retired after 7 years with a team no matter how good you were. Only exception would be if you brought that team multiple championships.

You dont seem to realize how pissed and devastated those teams would be to lose LBJ or Wade, they arent gonna retire anything.

If lebron leaves and wins a ring(s) with another team, he is so young and has a lot of season left in him, people will forget he even played for the cavs. If this is the case, there is no way he would get his number retired in cleveland.

I could see wade getting his number retired in Miami because he brought the town its first championship.

if the case is championships, than teams around the league have alot of jersey's to unretire

so i dont get that argument,as half the leagues retired numbers wouldnt be any longer(no ewing, bing, nique, miller, english, and on and on)

Westbrook36

Neither

king4day
10-29-2009, 05:15 PM
I picked neither, but I think Wade would be more likely since he led the team to it's first ever ring.
Lebron's been great, but when you don't win the title, it's easy to forget everything else he's done for them.

But I'm sure LBJ would be retired just because they need to have another big name they could say was part of that team.

I see the "leading the team to a title" argument only applying because neither has been on their teams long enough and as a star. So just because you've had a few deep playoff runs and all stars doesn't make you worthy of retiring in such a short career on that team.
A title is important because neither team ever won a championship before they came along. Miami now has one and LBJ is close.

7 solid years is more than enough IMO...

like earl monroe for the bullets(who has his number retired by them),or charles barkley for the suns,or tim hardaway who just had his retired by the heat.(and yes i can keep going)all spent less time on those teams than lebron/wade spent with theirs, and none won a ring for those teams

so again,i dont get the validity of the argument as others have gotten their numbers retired for less(both in time or accomplishment)

That's a good point with Barkley.

D-wade along with Shaq helped bring 1st title in franchise history, and D-wade was also Finals MVP

Lebron was the first Cavs to win league MVP and lead his team to the finals.

I can see why you are a WADE hater. Heat will retire Dirk's number instead :)

I dunno about LeBron, I mean should the raptors retire VC's number? He spent 6 years, I think, with the raps.

Probably not.

But it really would not even be discussed until they are retired, which could be 10-15 years down the road.

Yes that is true, but Tim Hardaway played 6 years with Miami as well and now has his number retired and the Heat have won a title as well.

yes, but not for a while. Wade is the leader in basically every category for miami and won us our only title. His number 3 will hang in the rafters one day, but if he leaves it will take a while for the sting to wear off
