View Full Version : Eric Gagne: What a fall

Tragedy

On May 26, 2009, Gagné announced that he has signed with the Quebec Capitales of the independent Can-Am League as a starting pitcher/coach. Gagné began playing with the team on June 9, 2009.[18] He has been highly praised by Capitales manager Michel Laplante for his hard work and mentorship of other pitchers and hitters on the team.[4] Gagné helped the team win the League Championship in September 2009.

Did anyone actually realize this guy was now pitching an Indy league? What a fall from that unbelievable streak he had going back in the day.

So the question is, if he attempts to make a comeback to MLB (my guess is he does), would you be at ALL interested in having your team sign him?

Canadian network did a profile on him and his team a few months ago. It's pretty amazing to see how far he's fallen, but at least he's seemingly got enough money to live with and he's doing what he loves in a situation he seems to be happy with. That's a lot more than you can say for a ton of former pro athletes, especially ones who left the pro ranks relatively young.

His success was all thanks to steroids. He was the most obvious user in the MLB back when he was on the Dodgers.

I told anyone who would listen that the guy was on roids and eventually was proven right.

Off the roids he's an Independant League level pitcher.

Gagne = Garbage.

It shows you how tough this game truly is and what lengths players will go to stay in it.

I don't see why he doesn't retire. I'm sure he has made enough money in his career.

If he is happy and his family is doing well then its success in my book. You have to be pretty dam good to stay in the majors.

"It's yet to be proven the steroids even give you that much of an advantage."

A stupidly overused phrase around PSD. Gagne is garbage, he was early in his career too until LoDuca's secret packages started arriving.

The other day I got curious about his Cy Young season and visited his Fangraphs page.

0.86 FIP, 0.64 tRA (I prefer the Statcorner one), 14.98 K/9, 4.5 WAR AS A RELIEVER.

WTF!

If he gets back on a pro body builder-like steroid routine, I'd love for my team to sign him!

Perhaps he is just enjoying playing still, even at the level of the Independent league.

I'm reading what you write, and I'm looking at the title, and I'm thinking to myself "Who the hell cares if I missed that dumb little thing above the 'e'?" Then I looked deeper and saw that Yankeefan28 fixed my brain fart.:(

He was in the crowd during the NLDS at DS. Truthfully, I would rather he closes against the Phillies than Broxton.

If I knew that I was nothing more than a can/am independant league pitcher otherwise, but could be the best relief pitcher in baseball for a period of five years, break records, make tens of millions, get tons of ***, be set for life and all I had to do was take a steroid and HGH regime for a couple of years, sign me the **** up...

Give me a few shots a month, a few pills for a few years for financial security for the rest of my families next 5 generations lifetimes...

Not even a question...

For the league min, id gladly take a shot on him. If he sucks he sucks, but if he went back to even 2005 (or even 2007 Texas Gagne) it would be worth it and if all you have to give up is four hundred thousand dollars to just see then why not?

And Steve Phillips thought the Yankees were nuts for not trading Kennedy and Robertson for him. Point proven, Phillips is a blight amongst the world. Thank god hes out of the public eye.

pretty amazing to see this much of a change from a big time closer to a small league pitcher
