Would you consider an injury to a key player on a championship-caliber team an excuse if the team does not perform as well as expected.

For example if the lakers (picked them because they won last year) suffer a season-ending injury to artest and do not perform as expected, like losing in the first round, be considered an excuse?

To me it only matters if it is one of the top 2 players on the team and/or a star player on the team.

Yes it matters... is it a legitimate excuse, yes... should coaches/players/fans use it, no.

Magic and Byron Scott got injured

they were 11-0 at the time too in the playoffs.

Considering what Ariza did in the finals last year I disagree, same with Odom and he's not a top 2 player on the team.

They got injured after they were down in the series.

Take Lebron off the cavs and we would be lucky to be an 8 seed

A better excuse would be '88. Where Detroit was up 3-2 and had the game won after Isiah injured his ankle only to have the refs give the game to the Lakers with the phantom foul.

yes and no. if you can play you can produce you dont have to put up amazing stats just help your team best you could but for the players who play through injuries are just freaks lol not everybody can do all that and make it look easy

Take LeBron off the Cavs... Kobe off the Lakers... any star or top performer off of any team and they will have an excuse for not winning that is why they are the star player because without them your team is no longer the same
