Is there any cause for concern? So far, the replacement refs are blowing the whistle about 20 times above average.

Your thoughts?

Yep.. The refs were terrible in the first two raptors vs sixers games.. At least they were fair and consistent

but damn they blew the whistle every play

They're like first-year teachers out there giving out detention like its candy so they prove they can't be walked on. I'd love to see a link about that because 20 more whistles a game is a lot.

Agreed and I thought the old refs were blowing their whistles too much. Jordan is probably in his mansion just laughing at some of the fouls these refs call.

it's alright. they'll learn with experience. the old refs weren't that much better anyways so

The officials called 68 fouls -- 26 more than the average regular-season game last year

i have no idea if that was his source, plus it was only one game...

The second raptors-sixers game was too damn hard to watch, it seemed as if they were blowing the whistle every 10 seconds. They should just let the guys play.

You know what maybe they should be cause this game has gotten out of control, what ever happened to the rule that was implied a few years ago about arguing calls????? its even worse than ever. Maybe these replacement refs wont play favorites either. Which is GOOD FOR THE GAME.

It doesn't really bother me, it's only preseason. At least the rookie players will learn about the league rules early.lol. Plus, preaseason is boring anyways, there's like no control(or set plays) in those games. It like fast break basketball,s o there should be alot of fouls. I'll determine if refs are overblowing the whistle when season starts. Ciao

I saw that also....but if you are to look at previous pre-season games, you will see a pattern. 68 fouls in one game is just pathetic, how about making a rule that you can't even touch the opposing player? These are professional players treated like a 2yr old girl...even the WNBA is more physical.

Im not ready to say these guys cant do the job but Ill admit I want the old guys back. This isnt the right time in the season to be hiring the next generation of refs.

People need to chill with the conspiracy talks, refs make mistakes, replacing them with guys who make more mistakes isnt going to HELP THE GAME

yea, ***** getting weak. they need to take it back to the 80s-90s style of play, and let the dudes go at it , but control it a little better than back then.

Don't know the difference between a legitimate charge, and a flop.

Don't know the difference between a legitimate charge, and a flop.

who honestly does except for the fans that get to see 20 different angles of the foul?

Oh my good God, I thought these new idiot refs would call LESS fouls since they reffed for the NCAA which is alot more physical.

But these bastards are even more whistle happy, WTF ?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but bring back the old refs.

Way too much. Jason Thompson fouled out in 17 minutes. 63 foul calls last night. Ridiculous

77 fouls in the Bobcats game tonight. The NBA needs to do something quickly if they do not wanna lose fans.

I just wanted to point out that this is preseason.

The refs are getting their first and now second opportunities to ref live NBA. The season doesnt start for almost three more weeks.

Also, being that this is preseason, you'll notice the no name players that are getting significant playing time. The games are sloppy and there are going to be far more fouls that in a typical regular season game.

Looking back at early 08 preseason games it looks like there were 50ish fouls called per game. In the two Bulls games I've watched this preseason there have been 49 and 56 fouls called.

Agreed, I tried watching preseason games and I just can't, there's no flow to the games with all the whistles

They'll get better with time. Most of them have only reffed 1 live nba game in their career, give them a break. Its still just the pre-season, they'll get better.

it's just pre-season, and just like some people said, it's their first time to ref in the nba.

Again, preseason. Remember the guys who are playing most are inexperienced players and guys fighting for a roster spot meaning guys are going to commit more fouls.

I haven't seen any of the games so I can only speculate but how many of you guys who say too many fouls are being called have been upset about calls on the opposing team? At the very least, it's good free throw shooting practice for a league full of guys who can't earn "free" points.
