Yankees: One of manager Joe Girardi's easiest decisions this season was to give the Game 1 assignment to Sabathia, far and away his team's best pitcher this season. In the thick of the AL Cy Young Award race, Sabathia improved as the season went on, posting a 9-0 record and 2.04 ERA in August and September. Though Sabathia faltered a bit in his final regular-season start against the Rays, preventing him from winning 20 games for the first time in his career, he should be well-rested and prepared for his yet-to-be-determined Game 1 assignment. Against the Twins, he is 1-0 with a 1.29 mark.

Twins: The Twins will put the rookie left-hander on the hill to start Game 1 against the Yankees. Duensing, who spent the early part of the season pitching for Triple-A Rochester, has made just nine Major League starts. After being moved into the rotation in on Aug. 22, Duensing has put up an impressive 5-1 record with a 2.59 ERA in nine games. The only time he has faced the Yankees in his career was in a relief role back in early July, in which he gave up four earned runs in 2 2/3 innings.

WHIP: 1.37
K/9: 4.29
BB/9: 1.79

Yankees: One of manager Joe Girardi's easiest decisions this season was to give The major news heading into the ALDS revolved around Burnett, who will pitch to Jose Molina rather than Jorge Posada in Game 2. Thats a testament to how well he has fared throwing to the Yankees backup catcher, who has caught each of his last six starts. With Molina behind the plate, opposing hitters are batting .221 off Burnett this season. With Posada, they are batting .270. Burnett has also pitched markedly better at home than on the road this season, with a 3.51 ERA at Yankee Stadium and a 4.59 mark everywhere else. Burnett, who hasn't lost a game since Sept. 12, has a 2.77 ERA against the Twins this season.

Twins: Blackburn gets the nod in Game 2 for the Twins and has experience in big games after pitching against Chicago in last season's tiebreaker game, a 1-0 White Sox victory. The right-hander hasn't lost since Sept. 11, a game in which he allowed six earned runs in just three innings against Oakland. Since that start, though, he's posted a 2-0 record in four starts with a 1.65 ERA. He made one start against the Yankees this season and was hit for four earned runs in 7 2/3 innings but didn't factor in the decision.

Sunday, October 11 @ Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome| TBD

Andy Pettitte, LHP (14-8, 4.16)

http://msn.foxsports.com/fe/img/MLB/Headshots/140x170/5331.jpg
WHIP: 1.38

Carl Pavano, LHP (14-12, 5.10)

http://msn.foxsports.com/fe/img/MLB/Headshots/140x170/5945.jpg
WHIP: 1.37
K/9: 6.64
BB/9: 1.76

Yankees: Pettitte was touched up for three earned runs on six hits and four walks in just 4 1/3 innings against the Rays on Saturday to fall to 14-8 on the season. Regardless, the veteran lefty said physically he felt fine and will be ready to go for Game 3 of the American League Division Series. He is a career 9-5 with a 3.70 ERA when facing Minnesota.

Twins: Pavano, who will start Game 3 for the Twins, has the most postseason experience on Minnesota's pitching staff, as he pitched in the World Series with the Florida Marlins in 2003. Since joining Minnesota in early August, Pavano has posted a 5-4 record and 4.64 ERA in 12 starts. Pavano has faced the Yankees -- his former team -- twice this season, both while with the Indians. He didn't factor into the final decision in either game. He allowed just one run in six innings in an outing at Yankee Stadium back in April and held the Yankees to three runs in 7 1/3 innings in late May.

Maybe, we'll see...Everybody had the Phils winning in 2007 agt the Rockies but you know what happened. The Yanks are a tough cookie but I don't have much confidence on the way the team is set in the postseason.

I pencilled the Twins/Tigers would be swept, which I rarely predict for any team in the playoffs.

The Yankees will have to face a bloody battle against the Red Sox, and then lose to the Dodgers (the Red Sox battle will tire them out), thats how I predict the World Series.

I think the Twins blew their load too soon, like the Fast and Furious movies when you hit the NOS too early. and this is ALOT of pressure for a rookie pitcher tonight, no?

Almost as embarrassing as spelling embarrassing wrong (just playing) oh and so far the minnesota fans on this forum have provided very well thought out color commentary... So far I've learned that the Yankees suck despite their regular season dominance of the Twins and the rest of the league, that they are overrated and their front office sucks. Kudos Twins fans you do your base proud.

The Twins have a better chance to win the Super Bowl than beat the Yankees in this series. Pavano will just hope to give up under 6 runs in 4 ip.

I don't understand how everyone says yankees sweep easily. They might have about a 70% chance of winning at home and about 60% away, but to do that 3 times-- The odds are against them for sweeping.

I'm going to say Yankees in 5 with Twins winning both at home, they aren't going to lose their last game at the dome.

Really? Get over yourself. I was just giving him a hard time for his Yankees suck comments. You hate the Yankees because you don't like them, that's all. They are the team you either love or hate, they have more fans than other teams and often more casual fans who say ridiculous things but must of us are just messing around on this board. This isn't our livelyhood just a fun place to come a bust chops.

PS. Is this why you hate the Twins?...

I like our chances in Game 2. Blackburn and Burnett have essentially the same ERA, and the Twins will finally be rested. The scheduling is no excuse, we still would have lost. But MLB really dropped the ball, forcing us to play on Tuesday, then start game 1 the next day. Thankfully we will not have any more issues with the Vikings once we get to Target Field.
